A delightful character restaurant. We had a wonderful meal of South African food. Great service, great wine, lovely ambience - and a visit from Simon the owner was a bonus!

This restaurant has a whole lot of eye candy and a photographers dream. Wonderful views and beautiful artistic door frames- beautiful setting! Fireplaces, fairy lights such a romantic venue. One cannot fault the service, the manager on duty checked on us several times and even when we were about to leave, he rushed to open the door and wish us a good evening. The food was lovely and they have a great selection of wines per glass. The only dish we did not enjoy were the chicken & prawn spring rolls - the meat was a mash and one couldn't identify either chicken or prawn as the taste was sour. However overall a lovely evening and we would go again.

A cozy fire, great service and excellent food. This is a far cry from other places in Plett we visited. It is always fully booked, regardless of the season or day of week. I can see why.

We had Father's Day Sunday lunch at Emily Moon while on a short winter holiday in Plett.
A friend had told us that this is the "must" venue for Sunday lunch, so we booked, albeit with some trepidation as sometimes recommendations like this are found wanting when experienced.
Well, it was undersold!
The venue is spectacular with indoor and outdoor seating and great views. If you are a birder, nature lover, art lover or traveller with a taste for the whimsical, then there are plenty of bonusses too.
We had not realised how popular Emily Moon is so left booking a little late and they were full; however, they took our name and said to phone back on the morning of the day and if the weather was fine, they would be able to accommodate us. The sun shone and we had a place.

We are both fussy about food and were more than happy with the menu, execution, presentation and portion sizes. Wine carte was interesting and service was also very good and personal, despite the capacity patronage.

As it was Father's Day, the owners made a special effort and there was a lucky draw with numerous winners. Done very nicely and not cheesily.

Arrive early and have a walk around the beautiful grounds and enjoy the views and take time for a perambulation afterwards to settle the digestion. Bring camera and binoculars.

Oh - ladies - make sure to visit the toilet - this is one that should be on the list of top loos with a view, and good toiletries to boot!
In one of his books, Anthony Bourdain (chef) said that he always visits the bathroom in a restaurant before he decides to eat there. His view is that if the bathroom is manky, the kitchens will be worse. This one would probably convince him to take up residence. Thinking of which, they have accommodation at Emily Moon as well ... next time!

It has been five years since we visited this restaurant. We always felt that it was overpriced for food that was too inconsistent in quality. We were pleasantly surprised after enjoying a Sunday lunch on the deck. The setting is perfect on a sunny day. The 3 course set lunch (you could choose from about 4 items for each course) cost R150. Most of us chose chicken samoosas and these were served with sweet chilli sauce (from a bottle) and a delicious reduced balsamic vinegar. Mains consumed included pork belly, roast lamb and boulabaisse. The pork belly was good but we weren't too happy with the thick piece of fat on top which had not been rendered down enough. The portion was also very stingy and way out of proportion to the mound of mash. The roast lamb was not served pink. Unfortunately it seems that the restaurant no longer serves bread with their meals. All in all we still enjoyed the lunch.
