Nice Place! Very friendly staff, clean bed, what you want from a backpackers. Internet is free on a computer in the main loby (things from like 1995, but probably loads facebook like a champ) 20 rand for wireless ( USD $2.20 ). They don't have breakfast but will give you %10 off coupons for places you can get dinner and breakfast. Warning: if you order a "plain omelet" that's literally just a piece of folded over egg - don't know if that's a SA thing or what, but it's stupid.

Hello Aaron

Thanks for reviewing your stay with us.

The computer is new and was bought in October 2012. It has limited capabilities because it is only intended as one for our guests to use for internet access. The only other items on this computer are the pictures of various activities for guest information.

Sorry to hear about your bad omelette experience - please send me a mail with the name of the restaurant used and I will address it with them. Some restaurants have a basic omelette with cheese only. You then have the option to add extras etc.

Trust that you had a safe trip back to Cape Town.

Regards

Dave Swart

We stopped off for one night at Amakaya Backpackers on our way along the garden route and we were welcomed by friendly staff and shown a bright clean and comfortable room. The atmosphere was relaxed and social and everyone we met was friendly, the staff encourage everyone to socialize by lighting a fire and doing a Braii. There are comfortable places to relax, the shared kitchen was clean and in good order. The only thing it was missing was breakfast in the morning but its so close to town it doesn't take long to find somewhere and the staff will happily recommend somewhere nearby.

We were driving on our way to Cape Town, and needed a place to sleep on the way. Made a last minute reservation, and luckily got a priviate double room at this excellenct lodge. We got a very warm welcome by Gerhart, who was always there to help, and had excellent tips for places to eat. The place was very nice and clean, and we had a secure place to park our car. There was a friendly atmosphere and a nice bar to hang out in. A place I would easily recommend to others.

Pleasantly surprised that our first choice for lodging turned out to be so comfortable. Overall a solid experience. Secure parking for vehicles, clean bathrooms and kitchen. Nice common spaces and communal activities in the evening. Gerhart was a great host and went above and beyond to make sure our activities for the next day was set up. Got quiet around 11 so no problems with noise.

On arriving at the easy to find and perfectly situated amakaya we were greeted immediately by Terry and given a homely welcome and tour of the building. He even gave us the last en suite room! Chelle's was loving the balcony with the legendary view of plett. Drinks from the bar and recommendations of where to eat as well as discount vouchers to the best restaurant in town! After an awesome dinner at LM on the Main Street we had the absolute pleasure of a long sit down and chat with, as he calls himself, the night man(Gerhardt)aka papa G. He was a breathe of fresh air and had the most incredible dog, Sky, who added the homely touch a South African backpackers could have! Due to his warm hospitality we have decided to change our trip just so we can stay there again. Well done Pappa G!
