Stayed in April @ The Vic Hotel i most of all enjoyed reception which i was given upon arrival . I stayed in Room 3 which is just next to the balcony area where i smoked and had a drink with my old timers . Every morning started with a few strokes in the pool in the lovely garden then Brekfast at Ginio . I enjoyed the Pizza @ Ginio too . What a lovely stay , i actually felt @ home .

The hotel is more than 100 years old and has been altered and ruined over the years into a dark, cheap and nasty 1970's nightmare. The hotel looks run-down and worn out. On arrival we were taken to our room which was on the second floor, it was extremely hot and stuffy and very dark.To our dismay, there is no air-conditioning in the hotel, which in South African summers makes sleeping really difficult. To make things worse, the room was very poorly ventilated with only one small window, and the ceiling fan was broken. When we asked the manager about the ceiling fan, he said they can't repair it. The room always felt much hotter than the air outside, making one uncomfortable not want to spend any time in it. The shower was also broken, with water squirting out in all directions when turning on the tap. Everything in the room looked old and worn-out, especially the bathroom. On the hotel's website they show a lovely pool, we arrived to find a green swamp. Our stay was in mid-summer, so it was very disappointing not to be able to swim and cool off from the hot and stuffy room. The hotel is located on a busy street so the traffic and people shouting in the street keeps one awake. The hotel offers breakfast in the adjoining Gino's restaurant, which smells horrible (old food and smoke) and is extremely dark and stuffy, also with no air-conditioning. The breakfast, however, was good and the staff efficient. There is no parking at the hotel, thus vehicles have to stand in the street. The area that the hotel is located looks run-down and dirty, with vagrants walking around. There is a busy pub down the street. There is a burned-down, ruined building directly across the street, and another one a few doors down the road.
