“Magnificent Cathedral Of Grahamstown”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

This historical Cathedral overlooks the centre of Grahamstown.
It was opened in 1830 and has the tallest spire in South Africa of almost 54 metres.
It is the centre of the SpiritFest celebrations of the National Arts Festival which takes place at the beginning of July each year.
The SpiritFest includes choir and organ recitals, bell ringing demonstrations and christian based films.
It is well worth a visit especially during the Festival.

“Grahamstown Cathedral”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

Very historical . It has been a house of God and a refuge during Frontier wars which were fought around its walls .
The existance of this Cathedral allows the town of Grahamstown to be called a City , because it has a Cathedral . There are a huge number of churches in Grahamstown - more than in any other in South Africa I think . Well worth a visit - allot of history in Grahamstown , and it is vibrant with student life of Rhodes University

“Must visit. Amazing how the 1820 settlers managed to build such a beautiful Cathedral. The stone masonry . hand chizelled. block”

A must see. An inspiration to realize that such a structure was planned and completed ' in the middel of nowhere. A labour of love. A testimony to those few who ventured to create and inspire future generations.

“Amazing Cathedral in a small town”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

Walking into the Cathedral of St Michael and St George is like entering a different world. The cathedral has a number of very interesting features. These include wooden memorial plaques with mice on them done by the Mouse Man and granite plaques which has "offensive" frazes blocked out. The building is a treasure trove of history.
