“Animals did not Dissapoint , but lack of services did”

Mpongo Park Game Private Reserve
Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

We were treated to some amazing animal sights , however we were in a hire car and were worried about the roads. We were reassured that they are fine for 2x4 and they are not! We did damage to the car and had to get out at one point to get up a hill. We really enjoyed our time there however and it is cheap . There is no gift shop and the staff were not very welcoming when we went to get a drink on a scorching hot summers day. We spent many, many, many day trips here as kids over the years and were saddened to see you can no longer have a picnic or braai ( barbeque) there . Still worth a trip out and good for the kids

Loved the experience with my little ones and hubby! Loved the Hippo pool just outside the restaurant!

Our recent visit to the park with our young kids and a Rotary exchange student from Switzerland was a great experience for everyone. We starting with a viewing of the lions lazily sunning themselves, followed by a buffet style lunch, watching the feeding of the hippos in the Huberta pool next to the restaurant, and then a walk around the touch farm before heading into the main park to look for animals. We took the self-drive option, although you can book a game drive with park guides if you prefer.
We were treated with an abundance of animals and birds, and we got to see some up close, which made our visitor's first African game drive one to remember.
We certainly enjoyed the height and space advantage of our kombi which gave us a view over the small bush. Some roads are fairly rough and steep, so you need adequate ground clearance.
Mpongo park is a quick drive from East London and good value for money for a family day outing.

Excellent value for money! Fifty Rand per person for as long as you want for game viewing. Only half an hour from East London.the day we visited we did meet another car, but saw lots of animals. Would definitely visit again.
