“2 weeks in East London - time to know a hotel”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

I've just returned from a 12-night stay at the Premier Hotel ELICC and after 12 nights in any hotel, you get to know what's good and not so good about it.

First the goods: fabulous views, overlooking the ocean; great, large rooms with super-comfortable beds; wonderful shower (amongst the best ever!); really friendly staff who went out of their way to help; perfectly good restaurant (good, extensive choice at breakfast, adequate choice in the evening for one or two nights); good prices (for those used to European hotel, at any rate); and a good selection of nearby restaurants.

The not-so-goods: the layout (others have written about the perverse arrangement of lifts and corridors - the architect needs shooting!); the noise outside from a ventilator plant on an adjacent building meant it was hard to sleep with the windows open (I won't blame the hotel for the US and SA Navy exercises just offshore one night - that put the ventilator noise into perspective!), and the noise from an empty fridge in the room (unplugged by me by the second night); the location (don't go out alone at night, which is fine if you're in a group, but if you were staying alone you'd have to get cabs to restaurant); and despite the willingness, sometimes the responsiveness of staff was a bit slow - one night we waited 2 hours from ordering to our food coming in the restaurant. Oh and one night, there were what looked suspiciously like two prostitutes in the hotel bar - but maybe this is normal in this style of hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have an ocean view, try to avoid the 4th floor because of the foot traffic to and...

I rated ICC east london 5 star the last time. I give it 4 now. Why ? It still has the most beautiful rooms, the best decor and very spacious rooms and lovely breakfast. We arrived late, not prebooked, they went out their way to accomodate us at such short notice.

We needed a late night snack and went to bar on the 3rd floor and were told this bar doesnt serve bar meals, one must go to a formal restaurant next door to get a sandwich . Topic closed. Thats not 5 star service.

Room Tip: If you are a large party and require several rooms, make sure you are all booked on the same wing. I...

I stayed there on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Rooms were excellent, great breakfast and service. The view of the Indian Ocean was amazing, we even saw dolphins from our balcony!

I stayed here for 4 nights while attending a conference in East London, and I always worry when I stay at a hotel that I have never heard of (Premier Hotels?, ELICC?).

So, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that (based on my experience at other South African hotels) this is quite nice.

If you have a conference at the conference center then this is definitely the place. You can go back and forward from the conference to your room so easily.

The room is the highlight, spacious, decorated nicely and with everything that you need.

Meals in the restaurant and room service are fine, not great but not bad either.

The one downside is the weird design, you have to go up an elevator, walk about 50m and then up and another elevator to get to your room. Every time that I did this I pitied the people in the first floor corridor with tiled floors in the hall and guests coming and going at all hours.

Room Tip: Do not take a room on the ground floor. You will be kept up all night with guests trying to access...

Had the honor of staying at Premier Hotel ELICC again for 1 night on business last week. It was super as always. Just wished I could stay longer.

Well done to Marieta and her team for running an excellent Hotel.

Keep it up.

I stayed for 3 nights on business and had an excellent experience. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I arranged to use the hotel shuttle service a few times and was duly informed when they were running late due to unforeseen circumstances. Even the shuttle drivers are friendly and well-informed. Good breakfast and dinners, and being a vegetarian, I still always had tasty options. Rooms are spacious and modern with ocean views. Can't wait to go back!

Arrived and there was chaos at reception, the phone line and televisions were down. After a wait I was checked in and made my way to my room on the fourth floor which required going in a service looking elevator to the fourth floor walking through a maze of corridors only to find that the room I had been given was already occupied. Had to go back for round two. The rooms are nice and spacious and there are all the amenities, if they worked. The swanky chairs and aircon are nice and contemporary.
There is however not one vegeterian option on the in room dining menu and so I ended up having to go to a buffet with an exorbitant price. I have to commend the lady who took care of me as she literally walked the buffet indicating every veggie option.

I think for the price this place is not there yet. It seems overpriced for the experience which is more than the look and feel.
