We walked in from town and it was a rather long trek in he surprising heat of the day in October. Where sunscreen if you choose to do this to avoid the lobster complexion I acquired.

We had fun taking pictures once at the ghost town. I was especially enamoured with a particular goat that was very photogenic and friendly with her devilish eyes and curious gaze. There were chickens roaming about, which always makes my happy (I own chickens back at home).

If you are going for the mine and hoping for a tour you will be disappointed since that is not offered here. Here they have only a small amount of track leading to the barricaded mine entrance to view up close.

Jerome and the Gold King Mine are side by side. Worth spending a full day to explore Jerome which will completely surprise you. The Gold King Mine just down the road is not worth the $7 admission - somewhat a large junk yard unless you find the few gems on the property. Watch the signage to Jerome as you could easily miss the final turn to go up the mountain. Parking is a challenge so go early in the day. With the elevation be sure to take layers.

One person's junk is another person's history. If your into history, you'll love what you see. Those reviews that complain of old junk probably werent enjoying Jerome at all anyway. The Gold Mine Museum is a must see. Get to know the folks that work there, ask some questions, and come away with some knowledge. Jerome's history great!

Be sure to ask Don to fire off Big Bertha! He will ask for a "starting" fee but it is well worth it. He first starts a big block Ford engine that is then used as the starter for Big Bertha. When he finally shuts it down by retarding the ignition, do NO STAND IN FRONT of the engine without covering your ears!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just happened to see the Gold King Mine sign and followed it not knowing what to expect. We had planned to visit the state park in Jerome but it like many attractions in Arizona were closed. This place is different, after getting our wallets wore out traveling in Arizona the five dollar price tag was cheap. We spent a few hours there, my husband who usually does not take pictures took 200. He is a motor head so he loved it, so many old vehicles to look at. I have to admit I loved it myself. The owner and his wife are just as unique as the junk, very friendly and you can tell they are doing what they love. There is something to look at for everyone. I am so glad we visited!
