We were on our way to the North Rim from Kanab and WOW! What a beautiful drive! Completely unexpected. Definitely worth the visit! Breezy and cool winds, pine and aspen trees, and we spotted two elk herds and a coyote.

We are trail stewards and maintain only one section... 8 miles. We do annual maintenance to clear the trail, renew the markings and let the Forest Service know of any major work that needs to be done. The trail is easy in this area and goes through beautiful open forest. Beware as you go south, though, past Jacob's Lake, as there is still a large burn area from 2006.

Best place to stay at the gateway to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Kaibab forest really begins at Jacob Lake Inn.

We drove through the Kaibab en route to the North Rim. It was a beautiful drive. We stopped to picnic near the visitor center, and found it was a lot cooler than the area farther north we had driven in from. They ask that you pack all your trash out with you when you leave.

I'm not sure anyone could describe the experience of seeing the Grand ... it IS GRAND!..and awesome and mind boggling. Would have stayed longer if the accommodation had been more comfortable. It is a must see but spend the extra bucks and find a comfortable motel.
