“Nice little cabins.. and a POOL!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

A few cabins, but mostly RV hookups. Not exactly in a scenic area, but there's a pool and playground and basketball court! Clean bathrooms and showers. AC in the cabins. Beds were comfortable. Picnic tables and a nice porch swing to sit on, but no other chairs. Grill to cook, but no campfire.

Room Tip: Wouldn't try camping in a tent here! It's all gravel! Get the cabin.

Close to (but not too close) the I40, this is a large cinder / gravel KOA which provides what it is supposed to do at a reasonable price. Washing / drying costs $3.50, wifi is free and the signal is strong but sometimes it is so slow as to be unusable, toilets / showers are clean, cable has more channels than is sensible, there is a cinder based play area for children and pitches are not too close together. Check-in was welcoming with useful travel information provided (and generally the staff were very helpful whilst we here here)and we were left to find our pitch (which was not hard). No pitches seem to have any useful shade. The only substantial grass is the area for tents. For the price we paid, we were very content with what we received and in fact we came back for a second night even though there are a number of other RV camps in the area, some of which being slightly cheaper.

We had reservations at another campground in Holbrook and were horrified at the condition when we arrived so left and looked for a better place. We found it at the Petrified Forest KOA. It is very clean, nice laundry and shower rooms. They serve dinner and breakfast on the premises if you do not want to cook. This campground is convenient to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. If you are camping in this area, this is the place to stay.

I rated this KOA as average. It is nice and what you expect from a basic KOA but nothing special. The staff is friendly, the bathrooms are clean, but the landscape could use a bit more green. It is very barren in the RV and cabin area.

It is the perfect location to visit the Petrified Forest. It has been the only one with grass tent sites and we appreciate it a lot. Really clean bathrooms, hookup also for the tents has been appreciated and wifi free. Arriving in the morning you can use it as base to visit the Petrified Forest that will took more o less from 3 to 4 hours, depend how much do you stop along the view points. Also if it close to the highway it is not so noise during the night

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a level site. It is sort of close to the hwy but the noise is very low especially when the wind kicks up in the afternoon. There aren't too many campsites in the area so we used this as our base for petrified forest & painted desert, meteor crater, and old route 66 spots. The manager was very helpful and informative. The wifi worked pretty well but you do need different codes to access it since local neighbors were using it and slowing it down

Room Tip: There is a playground and nice pool

Holbrook, about 80 miles from the New Mexico border on Interstate 40 is a nice little town in the middle of seemingly nowhere. This is desert country, but there are so many things to see in and around this little community, you should plan a few days to come and go from your favorite Kampsiste: Holbrook KOA. These include The Petrified Forest National Park, Rainbow Forest Museum, Archaeological Sites, Painted Desert, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Historic Hubbell Trading Post, St. Michael's Mission, Window Rock and Navajo Center, Hopi Cultural Center, Meteor Crater, Mogollon Rim and Fort Apache, and Sunrise Ski Resort, Rainbow and Show Lakes.

The very personable and friendly owners Brenda and John Kelley will greet you from 8a.m. to 8 p.m. year-round. And they will prepare delicious breakfasts and dinners for you at their ChuckWagon Cowboy Cookout picnic area every day from May 1 to November 1 for nominal prices.

In Arizona, grass is scarce because of the very low annual rainfall, so there is no grass in the Pet Walk area but there are nice grassy plots for tent Kampers. The children's play area is well equipped, cleanly groomed and close to the KOA office and includes basketball and volleyball courts for teens. There are plenty of nice wide sites with a tree at each one providing summer shade. You'll love this Kampground, and it is a perfect place to light also if you are just traversing across the country
