“Classic Route 66 Motel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

Funky, fun and a classic - it is what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else. The folks were friendly, free wi-fi in the office and for those of us traveling Route 66 in our classic cars, a is a must-do stop. The rooms are clean, small and dated. Now we can say that we stayed at the Wigwams.... don't need to do that again.

What a treat!! Spotlessly clean, quiet and reasonably priced. I felt like I took a trip back in time. When was the last time you slept in a Wig Wam? Retro cars parked in front, period furniture, museum in office. Friendly staff!
We were lucky and had a beautiful sunset that blew us away.
There is no in room coffee, no breakfast--nothing fancy-just plain fun!!

So... you're doing route 66. You need to stay here. That's it. But now I've been, I would never stay there again...

The location is poor, nothing in the surrounding area to warrant a night there. Local restaurants are average to terrible. Sleep quality here is a guaranteed poor. The mosquitos constantly find their way in. Air con sounded like a freight train. Speaking of freight trains, the line runs right next to the wigwams.

Having completely slated it, I would still recommend going there for a night. Why not. You can then say you stayed at the Wigwam motel and everyone at home thinks "Wow!"

And of course the photograph opportunity makes it an essential stop. It adds to the great story of your American adventure. Enjoy weary traveller. And then look forward to the decent hotel at your next stop...

The Wigwarm is fun if you are into Rt66 life style. My wife and I stayed there just for the heck of it. Very small rooms and shower but clean. Management helpful on other things to do in the area since the nearby National park was closed.

Good photos of old cars and the tepees.

Had booked a nights accommodation at the Wigwam Motel as part of our "Route 66" trip, but decided against staying the night.

The door to the Wigwam was very flimsy and from inside, daylight shone through the door panels.

The décor, carpets, bedding etc do not appear to have been changed since the 1950's. I can't say the bedding wasn't clean but it was very threadbare and tired looking. I agree with TonyH, that the Wigwam Motel is surviving on Route 66 hype.

If you're looking for a comfortable, relaxed night I'd give this place a miss!

99% of my reviews are good or excellent and I will always try and see the positives if I can but, unfortunately, this is not the case with the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona
As we were travelling from the UK, I pre-booked two Wigwams for the night of 22/09/13 so had to rely on the reviews of others and the website.
To say the Wigwam Motel was a disappointment is an understatement. This place relies on the nostalgia element of it's Rte 66 association and my advice is 'Don't buy into the hype'
Both Wigwams were dusty (even dirty), one looked as if someone had attempted to force the door which gave us worries over security. You expect a Wigwam to be small, but you don't expect it to be 'dingy' and 'grubby' with holes in the bed linen and everything looking extremely well-worn. The owner seriously needs to consider re-investing some of his proceeds to upgrade the facilities.
In view of the conditions in general and the 'security' concerns, in particular, we asked if we could have our money back. The receptionist seemed to think about it for a few seconds but then said 'No' as she would be unable to re-let the Wigwams at such short notice - even though there was someone behind us waiting to enquire whether any Wigwams were available !
Even if you do consider staying here, you should also be aware that the main California to New Mexico railroad runs less than 50 metres behind the Wigwams and the goods trains (every 20 minutes, or so) usually have around 100 trucks or more attached and 'honk' their horns to let you know they're about .... so a peaceful night's sleep under sheets full of holes is not very likely. The summary from 'su123till' is accurate, although I'm not even sure it's worth the photo shoot - save the space on your camera film or digital disk.
We took the 'financial loss' and stayed at the Best Western instead.

Room Tip: If you really feel the need to stay, ask for a Wigwam as far away from the railway line as possible

If you're happy with a basic room with very old a/c- so noisy that you cannot sleep - then you will be fine with this. The Motel reception is only there at 15.00hrs - 22.00hrs and extremely basic. The wigwam is a tourist theme motel park and it was probably good many years ago. Its a shame the rooms haven't been upgraded for the tourists. The rooms are extremly basic, with tired furniture. Our bedding sheets were old and marked with stains. I have photos with horrible memories.

Looking at the reviews, some like it. Not for us. We sat in the room horrified and upset to think we had to sleep one night in the room. It was late and we didnt know the area - otherwise we would have found alternative. I absolutely hated it.

Room Tip: Take a photo and drive on
