I just read Kristina's review and had to chime in on it as it was my experience the first time I had the good fortune of staying at HJL to be involved in helping two different stuck vehicles, one large trailer buried in mud. Terrance and Pat were truly heroes in coming to the rescue of folks who were not even staying at the lodge. They spent hours getting these stuck folks out of the mud. I have stayed at HJL five times these past four years. What is there to say but first-class all the way if you like rustic accommodations; all clean, staff on top of things, and the peace and quiet of this special place cannot be beat on the Mogollon Rim. Some years back they had the absolute best steak and pub house but the economy was such that they had to cut back on this yummy place. I understand the restaurant is about to be resurrected and I can't wait to have some good micro-brew and meat. Their buffalo burger is to die for. I visit every year in late May to enjoy the crisp mountain air and awesome stars display. It is so clean there that they have recently put up an astronomy near-by. What is there to say but this is a place time forgot: people care, the setting is spectacular and it is a place you don't forget. Money and time well spent.
