“Christmas Dinner”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

What a delicious dinner was served for Christmastime. We were seated promptly and food kept coming as well as drinks always full. There is nothing that compares to god homemade food. This has always been my favorite lunch place as well. You can't make a bad choice at this restaurant. The old house, lace covered tables, and China add lots of charm and the staff is wonderful.

Thank you for your review of our Christmas Dinners, they have become our customers favorite and we start planning for them in July. I hope you are a member of our email list so you will be the first to know when we open reservations up. They have become so popular we often sell out.

“A Christmas Tradition”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

With a group of friends we have been coming to the Spicery for one of their special Christmas dinners for over ten years. We can say, without a doubt, that this year was the very best year ever. The ambience is delightful with the old house decorated for Christmas and was only surpassed by the food. The soup starter was superb and was followed by a wonderful main course. They are rightfully famous for their home-made bread and the choice of desserts made the evening perfect. Great service, great food and great surroundings made for wonderful memories.

“A total delight”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

While attending Glendale Glitters, came upon this unique old restored home serving special prix fixe dinner at an increibly affordable price. Not only did the owner (Matt) fit us in to the very busy restaurant which was nearly fully reserved for both sittings, we had a lovely table for 2 in a quiet corner, the service was incredible (it seemed like we had 4 attendants - all gracious and unobtrusive - including Mary-Jo)), we were served very promptly and the food was very good. Most of the diners were known to the owner who ensured everyone was fully satisfied with the service and meals. This is a keeper but make sure you reserve or you may miss out.
P.S. Dinners are only served on special holidays such as Christmas, so phone ahead.

“Beautiful 1895 house and nice homemade delights”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

A group of us make this an annual Christmas lunch outing at The Spicery. It is such a quaint 1895 built house. The owner has really put a lot of upkeep into this. Beautifully designed décor in each room of the house which seats tables in each room. The Christmas decor in each room is really very pretty. When you walk in you can just smell the wonderful breads and desserts cooking. If you choose to go for the High Tea you must make a reservation. We go for lunch. The menu has a small variety but just enough to choose from, they have a small kitchen area for prep so they do have to limit the choices. They have 1 daily homemade soup which was the corn chowder and very tasty and also have 1 daily special which was a chicken breast with mushroom cream sauce. None of us ordered it, we mostly wanted to stay light on the lunch so we can indulge in their fantastic desserts. We ordered the Healthy Nut salad which is the salad of the day, very fresh spinach and just cooked chicken breast with wonderful feta and cranberries also tasty raspberry vinaigrette, they have other dressing choices. Also comes with a good size homemade roll which comes just out of the oven and so tasty. Others had the Croissant sandwiches either with chicken salad or turkey salad they all loved the freshly made croissant and tasty salads. Most of the sandwich plates come with either fresh potato salad or green side salad. Have to say each year we do attend some of the rooms are cold but can understand it is an older house and heating systems are different. When we were seated by the owner he went thru what the special is and salad for the day but he also mentioned they had a kitchen issue so the chicken dish was a bit different. It seemed they may have needed a bit more help usually in the past they had more staff. But still everything was wonderful, paced well and very nice atmosphere. If you want a special type of afternoon high tea this would be the place or even for a lunch, it is very peaceful, calming and relaxing. Some of the rooms are smaller and will have others seated so you can hear the conversations, but it really didn't matter to any of us because all tables in each room were enjoying. Do make reservations for lunch especially during holiday times and a must for High tea since they only prepare the delights for the amount of reservations. Then walk around Caitlin Court old homes that are cute shops, make an afternoon of it or shop a bit in the morning before going here for lunch and finish up afterwards with the rest of the homes shops.
