“better rock art elsewhere”
Reviewed February 26, 2012

I have seen much better rock art elsewhere without forking over $7 per person. It may have been better at a different time during the day, when we were there the sun was directly overhead and that made looking at the rock art and photographing it much more difficult. It would definitely be better to go early in the day or later in the evening when the sun is at a different angle. The inside attraction appears to be geared to school groups.

“history in our backyard”
Reviewed December 8, 2011

A great place to see Arizona history - and simply amazing that is right there in the middle of the neighborhood. Family friendly, easy walk to view. Would recommend to tour in the fall, winter, spring or very early in the day in the summer.

“Well worth a visit.”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

I don't know that it's a well known destination but it is well worth an hour or so of anyone's time. There are many hundreds of images ranging from animals to people carved/scratched onto boulders spread over a large cliff face/valley side. Lots of interpretive information is available. Go early moring or late afternoon for the best light (and it'll be cooler!)

“Interesting but would have been better if there was a tour guide or signs”
Reviewed January 2, 2010

We enjoyed the place once we found it, the person who answered the phone was not good with directions. It is interesting but would have been better with a guide. The rocks are neat. You can go through this in 1 hour or less. Small visitor center.

“Interesting place on edge of Phoenix”
Reviewed March 25, 2009

The Deer Valley Rock Art Center is just on the NW edge of Phoenix but it is wonderfully quiet and peaceful after you have been in the city. It is a collection of Indian Petroglyphs (art carved into rocks) that have been there for over a thousand years. There is a small exhibit hall with explanatory materials and a short trail with the rocks and the glyphs. You really need binoculars to see them properly--they rent binoculars there for $1.00. I wouldn't recommend going in the summer, as a lot of the trail is in the sun (although there are shaded bench areas along the way where you can sit and look at the rock art) but in the spring time it was a nice escape from the city and very interesting.
