The new owners have revamped the menu and it's all good. The Mexican food in particular is excellent. All of it is "Home Cooked" in a relatively small kitchen, but is worth the slightly longer kitchen time. Service is good. The restaurant retains the previous decor - heavily weighted to Marilyn Monroe. We also got breakfast to go the next day - and the breakfast burritos were large and very good as well.

The best place to eat in downtown Douglas.

So terrible, waited 35 min for my check after asking twice for it. Food and drink was mediocre and the waitress I had could only say 5 words in English. I waited almost an hour for a sandwich that would usually take a normal cook 5 min maximum. Never eating there again. I don't recommend it.

Consistent quality, spotty service, fresh and interesting ambiance, its a dated restaurant that unashamedly pays homage to all things Marilyn....but the food is the real star here, be prepared for generous helpings of Tex Mex and some fusion items. Chicken Mole enchiladas, Taco salads, traditional Mexican soups along with daily specials make the Grand Cafe a favorite for the locals, it is where you take a date or celebrate a special event.

The service was very slow, even tough there wasn't very many people in there.
The food was good, just has to wait a long time for it.

After many visits to The Grand Café I must say I've had enough. There is nothing grand about this place, from the wobbly tables to the subpar atmosphere, not to mention the tacky decoration. The best thing about it is their signature dish "The Chicken Platter" which is a very tasty chicken salad.
Other than this dish, expect the worse customer service at any restaurant; on my last visit the server seemed to be on her first day of training. It was very embarrassing to hear the more senior staff member berate the trainee in front of customers. On previous visits the customer service was lacking (if non-existent), with the server not re-filling drinks or just too busy to attend to customers. This pattern of behavior from management seems to be the norm here, every time I have been here, there only seems to be one server for the whole restaurant even if it is at full capacity. I have a feeling it will remain this way, in part because there is not much to choose from here in Douglas and also because according to long-time residents of the area, the restaurant owners and managers simply do not oversee the operations at the restaurant.
This restaurant could be so much more if a little effort was put into it.
