Owner description: Alcantara Vineyards is a dream venture created by Barbara and husband Bob to provide their family and partners the opportunity to live the dream of growing a vineyard community and winery. It was in cultivating the vineyards and embracing the land that Barbara and her family soon realized there was a bigger picture in this hidden treasure along the confluence of two rivers. You’ll find Alcantara Vineyards has over 13,000 vines and offers 12 different varietals. While you sip wine and enjoy our peaceful surroundings, which include vineyards, a grass picnic area, the Verde River and bald eagles flying overhead, you’ll find you are part of our community and family.

“They grow grapes everywhere”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Coming from Virginia of many wineries and vineyards I was surprised to see how they grow grapes in AZ. As we drove down the dirt lane we approached vineyards on a spiral mount on each side of the road. I had never seen this type of layout. At the end of the road was a beautiful little tuscany building. We entered the winery into a tasting room with a bar and tables. Very busy and packed. We decided to continue outside to a pretty green grass lawn with tables and umbrellas overlooking more vineyards. The area was quiet and peaceful and very unexpected to see such lush green grass in the desert setting. We got a glass of wine that was very good and rested. Food available but we didn't eat but looked well prepared. Gifts there if interested.

“Very good wines...”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

Especially for Arizona! Of all the wineries I've tried in this State, this is VERY good. The folks are nice, the winery is very pleasant. Yes you have to pay a tasting fee, and no, it is not refundable upon buying a bottle of wine, as done in California. Very good reds.

“Beast Desert Wine ever!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

I only like sweet wines, usually finding ice wines as desert wines- this sesert wine was better than a hundred dollar bottle from Canada! The cheese plate is not great and I wouldn't advise wasting your money on it unless you are starving. We were there as part of a package and kayaked to the winery: great beginner-level kayak trip and the Guide was very knowledgeable about the area. So worth the 2-3 hours time when combined with a kayak trip!

“Beautiful Setting with Average Wines”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

This winery has a beautiful outdoor setting with umbrella tables and chairs. You can also bring your own foods to eat with their wines. Cheese and fruit plates can be ordered with the wines. Some of our wine had a very strange odor, and we could not drink it. The white wines were fine!
Be sure to have good directions to this winery since it can be difficult to find. It is better to visit during the cooler months if you are going to be outside.

“Unexpected in Arizona”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Everything was surprising about this visit, from the beautiful setting to the excellent wines. We visited several others around the Verde Valley, but this was definitely our favorite. If you only visit one winery in central Arizona, make it this one.
