“Beautiful Setting, small resort, new accommodations but staff lacking in people skills”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

Fifteen minutes from Sedona and a nice home base for traveling out. The one bedroom unit was nice but patio looked directly into a construction site. Nice size kitchen and living room area. Small bedroom but spacious bathroom. Excellent, large pool and spa was nice, as was the onsite laundry facility. Game room consisted on one pool table - that's it. Check in and out was easy but concierge was snippy with couple who did not want to sit down for welcome package at that time and made a disparaging remark to us after they left. Nice welcome breakfast and having tour companies come in was a nice bonus. Close to some chain restaurants, Wal-mart, etc. Located at entrance to subdivision and does have golf course. Restaurant was minimal. We took sales pitch tour in exchange for Verde Canyon Train Ride tickets. Poor choice. Train ride is okay but goes back same way. Could see as much driving canyon roads. Sales staff was pushy, unprofessional, sarcastic, and sales lady even rolled her eyes when we told her we were tired of taking three vacations a year after 20+ years. We converted to points (to go from three weeks to one week ownership) and three months later are still trying to tie up loose ends. Once they get their money, they wash their hands of providing help with transition with trade-in company. The one hour turned into four.

Slide Rock Park is nice. Lost of nice artsy shops in Sedona and beautiful scenery. Hiking trails are abundant. We may go back to Sedona but not to this resort.

We stayed here using our RCI points and I have to say that the appartment was one of the nicest RCI places we have stayed in over the years. The resort was immaculately clean and the appartments are obviously new. All the furniture looks brand new with flat screen tv's in all the rooms. We had a two bedroom apartment and it was a lovely big size. The master bedroom had a jucuzi. We ha a balcony overlooking the pool. The pool area was superb and had a great pool house with all the amenities you could need. Fresh towels were in the pool house. This is a great location to explore the area of Sedona and northern Arizona. Highly recommended!

We visited Sedona a year and a half ago and stayed in a timeshare in Sedona. This time we stayed at this slightly out of the way place - an alternative to Sedona.
We found the unit clean and for a studio bedroom it was fairly large. It had a good fitness center with Life Fitness equipment except for one Vision Fitness elliptical. The weight machine was partially usable. You can do lateral pulldowns, bicep curls, and chest presses but no leg stuff. The pool was decent and so was the hot tub but the jets were weak.
The AC in the unit was erratic and not properly balanced because the bedroom was 15 degrees cooler than the living room. The partial kitchen had no storage space for food and no counter space. It was like an after thought in the design. There was no dishwasher. The couch was uncomfortable. The furniture placement made it difficult to watch TV.
The complex is next to the main road into Cottonwood and Sedona so you can hear the traffic. The free wi-fi works well. The concierege/timeshare appointment person was quite active and persistent. This is an active timeshare and they were offering some attractive incentives to listen to their 90 minute presentation. We elected to pass.
Another nice feature of this Highlands Resort was a mid-week maid service where they replaced all towels and linens. The grounds were nicely landscaped and everyone was helpful.

We visited in April and enjoyed the pool at the resort and town of Cottonwood. Orientation breakfast was good and hearing from the locals that represent activities was fun. Linda did a great job taking care of us. Loved the town of Jerome. Pink Jeep Tours was fun and Blazing M Ranch a not-to-miss. Sedona is lovely.

WARNING: Nic's restaurant in Cottonwood was recommended. Food was fine, but the server added a 45% tip to our check (2 in our party), then presented the bill with the tip area blank. We figured it out and made her change it, then I wrote to the manager to let her know. She said she checked into it and it was an honest mistake, that they always tell the customer if they have added a tip (they didn't tell us) and don't add one to parties smaller than six (they did to us). Best yet, I just got my credit card bill only to find that they double billed us -- two separate entries, charged once for the original corrected version of the bill, then a second charge for the bill plus tip. Now I have to go back and straighten that out.

Room Tip: We were right on the side with the busy highway -- very noisy and lousy view. Try to get a differen...

The resort is very small, but construction continues and it appears they may be doubling the size. The units are very clean and comfortable. It's very quiet and peaceful and overlooks a golf course. You don't have the fantastic views that you have in Sedona, but Sedona is only 15-20 minutes away and this puts you closer to Out of Africa Wild Animal Park and closer to Sky Harbor Airport. The bed was very comfortable and the sofa was not bad. Good size TVs. Pool was a little disappointing due to it's small size. Laundy is in another room, but it's free and it's really close to all the units. I liked this for a change to get away from touristy Sedona. It was a pleasant change and much less crowded than the traffic in Sedona. Cornville is right next to Cottonwood. There's 2 supermarkets close by, a Walmart and many restaurants. I would come back.

Room Tip: I'd ask for a room away from the construction, if possible. My balcony looked onto a constructi...

We were lucky to wind up here on our first trip to Arizona - it is out side of any town but nothing is more than a ten or fifteen minute drive away. Very quiet and expertly maintained, in our opinion. The pool and outdoor spa were always very quiet and even though the resort was 90% full, we regularly had these amenities to ourselves. We made our breakfast every morning in the flat and went out for dinner in the evening to a different restaurant. Sedona isn't more than twenty minutes away. Robert at the Main Desk is a true gentleman and a great help. During your stay, please be sure totreat your self to dinner at Nick's in Cottonwood and Troia's in Sedona - excellent food in professionally run restauarants.

We stayed a week here as a base for our trip to Sedona, Cottonwood, and Jerome. The unit itself was very nice, huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub, comfy bed. The furniture in the living room was a little hard. Very clean. Nice kitchen. The layout of the resort is a little weird. We felt that the units were right on top of each other. We had a nice balcony, but it looked directly onto another unit. So close we could see what our neighbors were having for breakfast. We had cooler nights so did not get to use the pool which was too bad as it looked lovely. Adults only trip, so we had no experience with the playground. Checkin/checkout was efficient. Overall, we had a nice experience there, but will most likely look into staying in Sedona proper when we return to the area. Did RCI exchange for this property
