Place is a rundown 60's era motel in a gravel parking lot. You'll recognize the hotel by the large "Jesus Saves" on the highway sign. Pool area is fenced but surrounding recreation area is simply in the middle of the parking lot. Pool edges are crumbling, algae was growing on half the pool walls. Some cute décor. No maid service. In fact, we had one packet of coffee for the coffee pot and no cups - and of course the office was closed. I had to get out a baby wipe to clean the hair dryer (including the cord) which was caked with grease and dirt. Tub was clean but the rest of the bathroom was just given a lick and a promise. Curtains were missing many hooks and couldn't be closed completely. Room smelled heavily of bug spray and mold. Entire room was incredibly dimly lit and the light in the kitchenette didn't work at all. Wifi strength was poor to none depending on where you were in the room. This room cost $145 plus tax a night. In comparison, new chain motels in area charge approximately $70/night for two people.

The website is very misleading as to what this place looks like. I would strongly urge you to look at visitor's shared photos. The location is convenient is you want to be in the center of old Cave Creek and in fact is the only motel. Can't imagine why you would come to this area without a vehicle, so stay a little further away at one of the other very nice places to stay.

I'd think this was a cute old place if I found it out in the middle of nowhere on a main highway and it cost $50 a night. I would NEVER recommend this hotel otherwise. Two nights in it was two nights too many.

The ONLY reason I can think of to stay here

Room Tip: I supposedly stayed in the "best room," #14 with 2 queen beds and a kitchenette. I'd...

Thanks for your honesty. While it's wonderful to read that you found our location to be convenient and centrally located, we're sorry you were underwhelmed with the rest. We never want any of our guests to leave feeling the way you did. That being said, did you speak with anyone at the front desk about your concerns? We have a variety of rooms and are always willing to work with you to find a new room when possible. The issues you mentioned about cleanliness are definitely not our standard, and we would have been happy to work with you right away to make sure your stay was as comfortable as possible.

As for the pricing, our rates change based on season, room, and length of stay. We're always happy to discuss those fluctuations with our guests in greater detail when they ask.

Finally, we're always making changes as we see necessary, so we'll keep your feedback in mind as we move forward. We've recently remodeled the pool among other things and will continue to update things as we go. Once again, we're sorry for your underwhelming experience. We're happy to continue this conversation and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Best regards,
Tumbleweed Hotel

We stayed at the Tumbleweed over the holidays. The lobby hours are 10am to10pm and no one worked on the actual holiday - it's just inconvenient if you are out early for the day. There is no maid service, so if you want clean towels or anything else, you have to go by the office when someone is in. No amenities whatsoever, and it is a motel, not a hotel. I made the mistake of seeing what was behind the bed when I was searching for an outlet to charge my phone. Large dust bunnies, debris from the brick (or maybe concrete?) wall, a used washcloth and a cigarette. I'm sure looking under the bed in many motels is not a good idea, but if that's where the outlet is, it would be nice if it was cleaned or at least picked up.
Worn linens, lack of lighting, old ventilation system, tired decor, a plywood patch on the ceiling in the bathroom. Felt like there was just a lack of upkeep. There aren't a lot of choices in Cave Creek, so I had hoped this would be a place we could return to. Sadly, it is not.

We're very sorry to hear that your stay wasn't up to the expectations that you had for us. We know that you want to feel relaxed and taken care of when you're on holiday, so it's especially disappointing to know that your recent visit fell short.

We always appreciate feedback from guests especially when it indicates some areas where we can improve. We do have daily maid services and try to respond quickly to any special requests or concerns. We'll certainly keep your comments in mind as we continue to make changes throughout the year.

Additionally, we want to be available at all times for our guests to accommodate them to the best of our ability. However, over the Christmas holiday, we also want our staff to be able to enjoy some time at home with family. I apologize for any inconvenience this caused during your stay.

I hope you'll consider giving us a chance to make a better impression the next time you make it to Cave Creek.

All the best,
Tumbleweed Hotel

Great Western feel. Short walk from Fine Dining, Saloons, Bull Riding, Markets, and Awesome shopping. Hotel was quiet, well kept, and the grounds awesome. Pool was good, we had it to ourselves. The Owner was very nice. He chatted with us every time we ran into him, and offered us great advise. He was very welcoming. OK, so it is not rated a 5 star hotel, our experience in the Tumbleweed and Cave Creek was a 5 out of 5. Will go back for sure! Cheers!!!

We absolutely had the BEST time in Cave Creek, and the Tumbleweed Hotel made it possible! We were able to walk to everything....we were able to have some drinks and not drive...they gave us great recommendations on where to eat...they helped with reservations for horseback riding....not to mention, just hanging out and chatting with the staff was relaxing and entertaining! They have nice rooms, with a great location. The hotel is at the base of Black Mountain, which is a challenging but beautiful hike and worth the effort to going to the top. Incredible view. I would pick the Tumbleweed Hotel and a stay in Cave Creek, only if you want to have a unique experience that will Not disappoint. Loved it!

Room Tip: Room 18 Deluxe room, with a kitchen. Saved us a bit of money by having a refrigerator , coffee maker...

My husband and I love to visit unique, boutique style hotels. the rooms were so cute. Something a little different than the usual. The Tumbleweed Hotel does not disappoint! it's a great area with western swings and barbeques for just hanging out. The staff were very helpful. The true fun begins in this town with the bull riding and live bands at just about every saloon in town. The Tumbleweed put us within walking distance to everything. Perfect for a weekend full of fun with no worries!

The Tumbleweed Hotel in Cave Creek, AZ, is by far the worst “hotel” that we have ever encountered. Actually, Tumbleweed is a “motel” – it provides rooms for motorists with a parking space outside the door.

We arrived in late evening from New York (nearly midnight for us on EDT) and were looking forward to a restful night’s sleep in comfortable quarters. How mistaken we were!

The room was poorly lighted; there was no place to accommodate unpacked clothes – not one drawer; the platform bed frame was splintered and stapled in places, causing leg scratches and bleeding; the bed “linens” were threadbare and the blanket unraveled; the commercial carpeting was covered with throw rugs; the telephone and wi-fi were not working.

Amenities? None. No microwave, no room refrigerator, no ice, no coffee, no tea.

We live on the East Coast, so my son who lives nearby had suggested we stay at Tumbleweed while visiting family. Unfortunately, he did not check the place out in advance and we did not read the reviews on TripAdvisor. So based on what we saw on the Tumbleweed website, we booked for 4 nights. What a colossal mistake!

One night was enough for us. With limited “lobby hours” (10 am to 10 pm), we had to wait until 10 the next morning to check out. In order to “cancel” our reservation based on our dissatisfaction and to request a refund for the remaining 3 nights, we were told that only the manager could do that, and that she would not be in until 12 noon. We were assured that she would call us. She did not. After that she was “unavailable” whenever we tried to get in touch with her.

Needless to say, we moved to another hotel – a real one this time, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit with family in Arizona. Our American Express bill was charged with the full 4-night reservation even though we checked out after 1 night and repeatedly tried to speak with management. The charge is being disputed and American Express is handling the transaction.

Be forewarned about this place, which we would describe as “a dump”.

Providing our guests with a relaxing and enjoyable stay is important to us, so I’m sorry to hear you were let down by both the service and the setting. On that same note, we have a variety of rooms and are always willing to work with you to find a new room whenever possible.

That being said, in our 40 years of operation, I can’t say I've heard our hotel referred to as a “dump”, so in light of how much care we put into every aspect of our establishment I was disappointed to read your comments. Our thick adobe walls are great for noise cancellation but not for our WiFi signal, so we recently installed a WiFi booster that will help fix that problem. We're always making changes as we see necessary, so we'll keep your feedback in mind as we move forward.

As for the charges you incurred for those additional nights, we ask that all cancellations are made at least one week in advance due to the fact that we’re the only hotel in a popular tourist area. We apologize if this wasn't made clear and will be sure to do a better job of informing guests about that policy.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience — We hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your trip.

Best regards,
Tumbleweed Hotel
