“Food needs to be improved”

Don't get me wrong, this place could be really fun and might be if you come here to have a few drinks and watch the bull riding. It has a musty smell and an impression of not being terribly clean, and the food was simply horrible. My husband's ribs were awful, as was my fried chicken and the coleslaw. Biscuits with honey were the best things on the table. Definitely would not go back to eat here.

“A must see place when out of staters come to town”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is the wild west at it's finest (my vote for the Scottsdale/Cave Creek conflict is firmly with Cave Creek, mostly for this place!) Dinner (fish fry or barbeque, recommended) at long picnic tables on dirt floors, a honky tonk western band, then out back by the firepits for the rodeo. Where else do you go for an evening of dinner and dancing and watch an actual rodeo?

I only gave a 4 because the food is good, not great, the dining room is crowded and first come firs t serve, and you sort of have to fend for yourself (as you would at any bar) finding a place to sit and push through the crowds, later at night. But the service is pretty good, and the overall experience just can't be missed.

“Nice environment, poor food”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is a fun place to hang out, dance, and have a couple of drinks. However, the food leaves a lot to be desired. I had the BBQ platter, and it was pretty much inedible. The pulled pork had a wicked aftertaste, and the brisket was little dry slices of grey with no taste. The sausage was good, but then again one has to go way out of their way to screw up a sausage.

There are other restaurants in Cave Creek with much better food.

“So much fun!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

I came to Buffalo Chip Saloon during a National Concierge Association event dinner. Oh, boy was I not expecting this! Almost like a mini version of Rawhide, but minus the gun shootouts...which no points lost.

Food and staff are both great. Good to have multiple bars. There's one close by no matter where you're sitting!

What I'm really reviewing here is the BULL RIDING...Not like the typical mechanical bulls you see everywhere, but your real, live, "Ferdinand the Bull" BULLS! Open to public/amateurs. Not expensive at all. Had to literally sign my life away, but hey, it's bull riding! They take great care of you and give you all the equipment needed for the total $40. They tell you in good detail what to do and answer any questions before opening the gate.

Don't expect to last long. There's a split second where you think, "Hey I can actually do this!" But by that point, you're already falling off. Make sure to pay a little extra for a professional picture too. It's worth it!

Please be respectful of the animals, the professional riders and the sport as a whole. Remember that the other riders are there not just for fun, but to support themselves and their families.

You will have a great time at Buffalo Chip!

“fantastic, fun experience!”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

On part of a 3+ week road trip, we met up with college friends who live nearby. We wanted an authentic, cowboy, western experience, and we got it! The town was so cute that I wished we'd had more time to explore & shop.
I don't remember all the dinners & food we ate (yummy pulled pork for some) because the food was secondary to the experience.
While still good eats LOL, the true western experience was awesome. Mostly locals & cowboys, bull-riding, hitching posts, great western décor -- just fun Fun FUN. Did I mention i'm not sure what we ate? Didn't matter.
Don't just go for the food, go for the experience. You'll be glad you did!
