“Cute and unique”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

What a cute place! The rooms are all decorated differently and the place is a throw back to a different era. The owner was really nice and welcoming. The 2 rooms we had were charming. The one on the corner, street side, had more windows and was slightly larger. We loved the outdoor space in back of the property, like a home's backyard with grass, trees, and a table and chairs. It was rainy season so the stream was running hard out back which added to the ambiance of the property. There is a bridge that crosses over the stream to the yard. The parking right next door was a great perk. Love the mural on the side of the motel too!

Room Tip: Corner room is brighter and bigger.

These folks are goodhearted, kind, generous and share their unassuming domicile with charm and grace. It's a five to ten minute walk to the center of town, so it feels deceptively secluded. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Oh, I stayed in room one, on the road, and it wasn't noisy. And I'm really picky about noise,

We spent three nights at the Jonquil and found it to be an excellent value. We have stayed at many of the lodging options in the Bisbee area and like most accommodations; the Jonquil has both its good points and its challenges. On the good side, I can’t say enough about the value. You just don’t find clean, well located accommodations with parking in Old Bisbee for this price. We had a clean room with nice linens and free Wi-Fi, in a great location for half of what we would have paid elsewhere. The outdoor spaces were wonderful, both the courtyard and the backyard area offered patio seating and shade. There is parking adjacent to the property (a rarity in Old Bisbee) and it is a short walk to cafés or the downtown area. On the downside, we stayed in room #4 which has no view of the courtyard (front window looks into the wall of another building) and no screen door. The rooms are small anyway but not being able to look out the window or open up the door made it seem much tighter. Also, if you are spoiled with a little AM coffee pot….you won’t find it here. Hard-core morning coffee people will need to stroll to the convenience store next door for morning java. Lastly, we killed our share of little spiders and silverfish in the room – while this isn’t necessarily unusual for an old building in this type of climate, there did seem to be an abundance of them during our visit and on our last evening, a nest of flying ants in the courtyard sent us scurrying back inside. Overall, I would probably stay again based on the price/value but I would absolutely select a different room. Both 2 and 3 looked like good options, both opened to the courtyard and both had a screen door!

Room Tip: Room 4 is not a good option if you want a view and room 1 is right on the road.

We stayed on June 5 thru June 7, 2013. I will start with the good first. The bed, bed linens, and towels were very nice. It was a quite location. What updates that had been done were good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room is old but clean. Nice small court yard with table and chairs.
Now for the not so good. First the advertise this room as handicap (#1). IT IS NOT!! There is a high step into the shower and no grab bars. There were 2 chairs in the room that would work as torture chairs. You could not set on them without being cut in half in the leg area. We tried to watch the TV and it was not good. They left the screen door from when it was a motor court (nice touch) except it had a big hole in it. In the bathroom they had taken out the front of the medicine cabinet but not out of wall and just stuck a mirror over it. I chose the motel because I can not handle steps very good and most places in town have them. But, I did find out there are a couple that have elevators and if we would go back I will pick one of them.

A return visit to the Jonquil did not disappoint and I stand by my original review. The Jonquil is in the perfect spot for visiting Bisbee and steeping yourself in its history and cultural. The rooms are comfortable, clean and private, the ladies who manage the motel are courteous, friendly and welcoming. Best value in town for accommodation.

It is a pleasure to get away from the general hotel experience with its wall to wall staff under foot and imposing their presence, no fru-fru stale chocolate piece left melting on your pillow either, just genuine, honest people running a genuine, honest motel.

We had booked a room at the Thursday night reduced rate which is available for the first three rooms during certain periods. I asked if that particular room had a DVD player with the TV, it didn't but no problem, we were immediately offered a choice of moving to the room next door (which did have) or, if we would prefer, the appropriate TV would be put in the room we had initially selected. We simply moved to the room next door which happened to be the same one as our last visit.

This motel is located above the town and is an older property. The rooms are small, and the walls are thin. The bed was great. For the price of $95/night, I'd expect two-ply toilet paper and better toiletries. The mural on the parking lot side of the motel is awesome and a great story to boot.

We've stayed twice at the Jonquil and will again if in Bisbee. The Jonquil has character and history. The rooms are charmingly decorated, very clean and full of "finds" from the area's shops and sales. They're small, since the property dates to the "motor court" days, but modern and comfortable with cable and free WiFi. The owner/manager's pleasant and helpful. If you want a Holiday Inn atmosphere, this is not the place; if you like B&Bs, the unconventional and personal, you'll enjoy the Jonquil.
