Take a few minutes, stop, and read the informational boards and take picture. When you find out that an entire mountain was removed, you start to understand the scale and scope of mining in this area. (I love history.)

This open pit has an observation point just off the main drag going into Bisbee. The WW2 memorial to the veterans who died was well maintained and worth looking at since it's in the view area. The best thing about the Lavender Mine is the one block drive through Lowell which puts you back in the 1950s. Make sure you eat breakfast or lunch at the Bisbee Breakfast Club.

The Lavender Pit is located right on the main road so no extra driving is required. It is all paved. An easy nice pullout with lots of parking. Admire the depth and scope of the past mining efforts here in Bisbee. A true part of Arizona's rich mining history. Just takes a few minutes to see if pushed for time. The size is impressive!

This open pit mine is enormous, goes down hundreds of feet and has stripped the earth of everything in its path. That said, it's an awesome sight and whether you're pro mining or anti, something you should see. There's a viewpoint and parking area (no fee) from which you can take photos and walk along the fenced edge of the pit.

Basically you stop, park look over the view point and leave. A highlight it isn't but it is interesting and worth the stop.
