My husband and I recently did the Queen Mine tour, and we both agree this was a fantastic experience, well worth the time and money! What a great experience to take the train 1500 feet into the mountain. Sure it's dark, but not overwhelmingly so. And each person is wearing a bright miner's lamp that you can aim wherever you please. I thought perhaps I might feel a bit claustrophobic, but that did NOT happen at all. Two miners led the tour with us and did a great job of explaining how mining was done back in the days. Highly recommend this experience! And the mining museum in Bisbee is a great place to start to get the background first.

On a warm Arizona afternoon, visiting a retired copper mine whose temperature is always 47 degrees is a treat by itself. But this is a really well done tour, of a copper mine that operated from the 1880s to the 1940s. Everyone is equipped with a hard hat and a mine light, and the group takes off on a very narrow train into the mine. The trip makes three stops, with very good discussion and descriptions at each.

In addition, the visitors center has great displays, including elaborate dioramas and a film about copper mining, and a particularly well-stocked gift shop with a lot of items actually germane to the mine and mining, as well as the usual T-shirts and caps.

This was such an interesting tour! We spend our winters in Arizona, and you always hear references to the mining history of the state, but this tour really helps you see it close up. They outfit you with safety equipment including hard hats, miners lights, neon vests/slickers, etc. It makes for some great photo ops before you even board the tram into the mine! The tour guide was a former miner, so he was very knowledgeable and had several funny stories to tell. The mine was very cool and pleasant - lots of ventilation for those who are uncomfortable in small spaces. We got off the tram and walked around in several areas. All in all, a great history lesson and something that makes you really appreciate the way that miners made their living. We're always looking for interesting things to recommend for our visitors to do - this tour definitely goes on the list!

What a great way to escape the heat of the day for a while. This tour gave me a real appreciation for early miners in Bisbee. Our guides were both actually formerly miners and had a lot of great information about what we were seeing. My only reservations about this were that our guide was a bit quiet and hard to understand at times and some of the other visitors on the tour were incredibly loud (particularly bad in a cave) :) But, even so, I would absolutely do it again.

This is a very authentic experience as it was a REAL mine and you are outfitted in safety equipment before you enter including a brass numbered tag you sign for. You also ride the same tram into the mine that the miners would have rode. Once in the mine you make a number of stops where you get off and walk to areas to see and get a very good explanation of mining by very knowledgeable ex-miners with a bit of humour thrown in. Bisbee and the mine tour are a must do if your in the area.
