One of the activities you must do while in Bisbee. You get gussied up with your miner gear and ride a jitney 1500 feet into the mine. It's a little chilly in there, so bring a cardigan perhaps. Once inside, a tour guide (most of them are actual former miners) will talk about the history and work done. At one point, everyone turns off their lights and you can experience the true darkness. Our tour guide was very good at answering questions people had. Tour lasts approximately one hour.

Most of the guides are former miners - their insight is both helpful and add a richness to the tour. An excellent introduction to the dangerous profession of mining.

Well worth the money, this tour takes you 1500 feet into the Queen mines to see the work done and equipment used since 1875. Everything from hammer and chisel to air powered jack hammers were on display down in the chilly depths. Our guide was an ex-miner and full of great facts and information. You get off of the little mine train 3 times to walk around ( in a work area, in a large mined out cave, and in a blasting area). Not scary at all despite being surrounded by nothing but rock and darkness. Each person gets a mining light and when the groups are together its plenty bright . Additionally each tunnel is pretty wide, so claustrophobia shouldn't be a problem. I was afraid this would be a touristy train ride through a cave, but it was the real deal. Great fun and really informational. Highly recommended.

The mine tour takes you 1500 feet into the mine, you get a real mine experience. Before you enter they "dress" you in a yellow jacket, hard hat and miner lamp. The mine is 47 degrees so wear a jacket.

The Queen Mine tours (copper mining) is something you must do while in Bisbee. It is very informative and gives you a new appreciation for the different jobs that people do.

It's a very authentic experience-down to the slickers, hard hats, and lights you have on you. Our tour guide was a former employee back in the 1950's and gave us great insight as to the daily life of a miner at work and at home.

The main hall has the company's mining history and how it contributed to the city of Bisbee, AZ. Definitely a must do!!

A tip: Because it is an underground mine it does get cold (about 45 degrees) so be sure to layer and wear comfortable walking shoes.
