“Nice looking but Linens Smelled”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2008

Found the motel in a travel coupon guide we picked up in a store. Rate was only 42.99, but extra people were extra so it cost $50. Easy to find, even at night. Lobby and outside quite nice, so we were surprised it had few people staying there. The room was very small but usable, bathroom ok too. Had trouble adjusting temp but we arrived late and went to bed immediately so no time to get it balanced. Got too hot, turned it down, got too cold!
Pillow cases were yellowed and the pillows SMELLED of old dirty clothes. Had it not been really late and we were tired, we would have asked for another room. Continental breakfast is only cereal and milk. OK if you don't mind the dirty linens, but we won't stay there again. It has a McDonalds and Subway in the parking lot, along with a Pilot Truck stop/gas.

Everytime boyfriend and I got to Flagstaff (which is a few times a year) we stay at this hotel - even back when it was "Microtel"
It isn't the most fancy hotel ever BUT it is cheap and comfortable and the staff is super nice! It is right next to a gas station and a 24 hour mini-mart/McDonald's/Subway - but those are far enough to not interfere with your stay (with noise, lights, etc...)
If you just need a place to sleep, with the basic stuff (plus a few extras like microwave, plenty of movies, and mini-fridge) then go here!

  • Liked — Very cheap and the free wireless internet :)
  • Disliked — Cleanliness could be worked on a bit...

We arrived without reservations and were given a room that had not been cleaned. In observing the other rooms on the 1st floor, there were only 5 or 6 that were available as the others had their doors ajar and were still dirty. We were given a different room which was reasonably clean but for the cost, it was not worth the stay. If we wouldn't have been so tired from the long drive, we would have gone elsewhere.

Booked this in January 2007 via Lastminute.com and paid for the 2 rooms in advance. When we arrived at the hotel, they pointed out there had been a change of ownership and didnt have my booking. However they did honour the booking and we got our 2 rooms, so well done the staff on duty!

As you would expect for the money, rooms basic and not very large, but they were clean and comfortable so no complaints.

Microtel is a great bargain (it was $33 for 1 night during the middle of a 3 day weekend) ; the free breakfast is cereal, milk, juice, coffee, donuts and surprisingly "make your own" waffles ... the did give away our reserved non-smoking room but did find us another NS room after some shuffling around ... the Wi-FI did not work in our section of the hotel (my laptop would get a signal but could not connect, i went to the lobby and was able to get the signal from the otherside of the building so the Wi-Fi did work for half the hotel plus lobby, just not our side)

warning - get your dinner before you arrive and note that it's 2 floors with no elevator, make sure you request 1st floor if that is an issue

there is one restaurant across the freeway (harley davidson roadhouse grill) which allows take-out but isnt really set up for it but no other gas or food for 10 miles ... the Microtel company site mentions a Subway Sandwich and a gas station being nearby but those have been torn down (they seem to be rebuilding the gas station) ... when i asked the night receptionist for milk she gave me milk and cereal from the breakfast "stash" so if you arrive late and dont want Harley Davidson food, you can try asking for milk & cereal

Modern motel in a good position just off the Interstate, making it handy for visiting the area and especially Grand Canyon. Clean, adequately sized room with an efficient self service breakfast.

This was a great place to stay if you're visiting the Grand Canyon or heading to Laughlin or Vegas and want to save some money. The room was nice and clean, OK continental breakfast - wish there had been a pool. There was a problem with showerhead - they need to upgrade - shower faucet had the hot and cold reversed which could have been dangerous. The A/C unit was a little noisy so we put it on high while we went out then turned off for the night - very comfortable even in August. There is a great Harley shop and Rt 66 Roadhouse Cafe across the highway - get your meat and cook it yourself- fun! We got one steak to share with 2 salad bars - more than enough. When we finished dinner it was 530PM so we spontaneously decided to drive to the Grand Canyon - from here you're 20 minutes to turnoff then another 50 minutes to Canyon - took 20 minutes to get pass entrance, very easy to get to Mather Point to see Canyon. You could spend a lot more time here but really once you see it, you've seen it.
