Alaskan Host Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 7 Willow B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 29, 2009

This is our 5th summer coming to Alaska. We stayed at the Alaskan Host B & B for the first time in June of 2004. Meeting Jim & Kathy was like coming home to family. Since then we have stayed here some each year and grown to be "real" friends with the Huston’s. Jims "Park Ranger" knowledge of the area provided us with endless places to explore. Kathy's wonderful authentic Alaskan breakfasts started us out with a full tummy & always looking forward to the next one! If you are traveling to Denali or want to experience real Alaska you must visit these wonderful people and their mini museum of local wildlife on their exquisite 200 acre "resort". You'll be glad you did!

Our stay with Jim and Kathy was just an outstanding experience. All the physical aspects of the accomodations was just as expected; clean, comfortable and great food. What we didn't expect was the experience of getting to know some of Alaska's finest people. You won't find a more interesting couple to set and talk with. They have built their home place that matches their personality that reflects what we believe to be the finest of the pioneering spirit. They were knowledgeable about the area and attractions and guided us to places not necessarily on the front pages of tourist sites but interesting and reflective of real life in Alaska. It is a beautiful setting to spend some restful days.

Jim and Kathy Huston were gracious guests when our mission team descended up on them en mass. The food was excellent. The home was beautiful, the scenery was breathtaking and the atmosphere purely Alaskan. I would not hesitate to stay here and have complete confidence in the hosts ability to make you feel comfortable.

We stayed at the Alaskan Host B&B after a trip to Denali Nat'l Park. It's located about 66 miles north of Anchorage off the Parks Highway. The hosts (Jim and Kathy Huston) were very welcoming and greeted us with a tour of their home. The place overlooks a beautiful lake that presumedly have respectable size trout (one of which the host caught the day before). The living room area is decorated with mounts of moose, dall sheep (#6 in the world bow hunting), and several furs. The bedroom had 2 queen size beds and had an Alaskan country-style feel. Kathy prepared a wonderful breakfast with blueberry pancakes, reindeer meet, and scrambled eggs while Jim shared many enjoyable stories (from a famous picture off Kodiak Island to hunting trips). I would recommend this B&B to anyone who really wants to experience Alaska!

My husband, adult daughter and myself, stayed 4 nights at this wonderful B & B. We were in Willow for wedding of our grandaughter/niece. This B & B in the woods was close to family and an absolute delight to stay in. Jim and Kathy are friendly, warm hosts and make you feel like you have more family in Willow! :) Kathy is a wonderful cook and the large hot breakfasts are delicious!! (she even shared a new recipe when I asked for it, imagine THAT!! How many hotels will share?) That's family for ya! :) The home is warm, cozy and clean. Each room is unique with it's own Alaskan Decor. We stayed in the Alaskan room with a fun faux "outhouse bathroom", how cute...kept me smiling just to look at it. And you'll find the closet hidden behind a faux stack of wood. What an imagination someone had! My husband says it was Jim....I say no, it was Kathy. No matter, both are creative people...everyroom is great, (our daughter had the Polar Bear room), there is a private entrance to the rooms so you won't disturb others in the home, if you arrive late in the evening or early for an afternoon nap. Beautiful view of the private lake at the lower level and telescopes and comfortable chairs upstairs for bird or critter watching. Both Kathy and Jim are full of information you might need on Alaskan sites or trips you may like. I can't begin to express what a wonderful difference they and their B & B made in our trip to Alaska!!
Thanks soooooo much,,,Wayne & Barb Bennett and Karmen

We stopped in Willow on our way to Denali and stayed at the Alaskan Host b and b. Our hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The place was very homey and had many cute touches. It has a lovely view of their lake. The house is in the middle of their large property. Both our rooms had comfortable beds and everything was clean. The breakfast was wonderful and was a full breakfast. I would gladly stay there again. From the notes left by other vistors, others felt the same way.
