I am reluctant to write negatively about our experience with Alaska Sea Kayakers because they do a lot of things right. They are great about communicating with you prior to your trip. They will outfit you for just about any kind of weather (the weather is frequently a factor in Whittier). The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful.

Our group had some "mechanical issues" with the kayaks. Our guide was patient and helpful in trying to overcomes these problems. It ended up shortening our time on the water. Our guide paddled out in front of our group, didn't turn back toward us when talking and pointing things out, and seemed generally disinterested at times. None of this would have seemed as bad if we hadn't had better guides on previous kayaking excursions. Because we have had better experiences, this one felt like it was lacking.

My husband and I booked a sea Kayaking adventure through Alaska Sea Kayakers in July 2019. We booked the Kittiwake Tour. Upon arriving, the owner was really laid back and nice. We were assigned a guide named Katelyn and she was absolutely wonderful. We were the only kayakers in our group. We expected to have to be with a large group, but it was private. It was great! Our guide also took us up and showed us which fresh berries were edible, which was information I used throughout my whole trip while hiking.
The business provided everything we needed for the trip. Rubber boots, spray skirt, and dry bag were all provided.

No deposit required as they explained that Whittier weather is very unpredictable... and boy was it! The weather had been warm and still the day prior to our trip, but the morning of, it was super windy. Staff informed us that the weather was expected to calm down in the afternoon and rather than cancelling the whole trip, rearranged things so that we could still go.

Our guide, Todd, was incredibly thorough with the safety instructions given the weather and then we were off! As the weather cleared, he would check in with us to see if we felt able and willing to venture further. If you get that option (unless you feel like you physically cannot make it any further), DO IT! It was INCREDIBLY beautiful! Every waterfall and rookery swarming with gulls; all very picturesque! Lunch was super yummy and filling with so many options including some delicious smoked salmon. Todd was a very responsible and knowledgeable guide who was energetic and passionate about his surroundings! A joy to talk to! Would take another SeaKayakers trip in a heartbeat.

Our family of five (three adult children) had a fantastic time with Rich and Dave, our guides. Checking in was easy. ASK provided everything we needed for an enjoyable trip, including waterproof boots and pants. Rain jackets were also available at no charge for those who needed them. Rich and Dave provided great instruction before we started and lots of great information about what we were seeing along the way. The picnic lunch provided about 1/2 way through was delicious! With two guides they were able to accommodate the differing abilities of the group so no one was bored or overtaxed. We saw lots of birds, a sea otter, a sea lion, and two waterfalls, in addition to all of the beautiful scenery.

Perfect trip for my active family. Highly recommend!
