This is a great place to learn about the Iditarod and the sled dogs. The free video is very informative, and they have some cool artifacts from years past. The gifts were reasonably priced and consisted of t-shirts, post cards, stuffed sled dogs, pencils, etc. We were a little disappointed that we missed the live sled dogs. The clerk said they only have live dogs during the summer. If you are in the area, even during the winter, it is still a cool place to visit.

Interesting historical info, and the ride with the dogs pulling was awesome!

The Iditarod Headquarters is a great way to learn about this world famous race. The film is very informative. There's a lot of interesting stories about the people and dogs that have raced. It is a great value because it is free.

If you go, be sure to spend the $10 per person for the quick ride with the dogs. It keeps them in shape for the upcoming race, and helps with expenses. Of the five of us, only two took the cart ride. I was surprised by the excitement and power of the dogs. They really love working! And believe it or not.......there's a bit of excitement for the riders on the turns. When we got back, the other three decided that they would give it a go - they were not disappointed. There are many other places that you can take longer rides, but this is an economical way to enjoy a ride.

Afterward, we spent time cuddling with the puppies! So cute. We were surprised that these hard working dogs are not the typical husky or malamute that you might expect. Rather, they are a mix that are lean and bred for endurance.

The Iditarod Headquarters was interesting, especially the movie they show of the Iditarod's of the past. They do take you around on a wheeled sled, if you are interested but we were not. Also had a sled puppy in a pen to see but the puppy was unhappy being away from it's mom.

We are mushers from upstate NY, and we loved this place. My husband did his own personal Iditarod in 2010 - 1049 miles on dog sled and dog scooter over 9 months. I am so proud of him! Well, back to the Iditarod Headquarters - lots of history and lore, and a great gift shop. Don't by-pass this!
