Valdez is a beautiful little town. Went on the Lu Lu Belle. It was great, we seen sea otters, a couple of dolphins and 2 Minky whales which Captain Fred called Humpbacks. The captain talked to much. All in all a great boat tour.

This lovely little boat takes about 25 guests for tours and is quite comfortable.
There is always a warm place to see well or a good spot to see on deck.
There is a decent head (toilet) and reasonably priced hot drinks and snacks available.
The captain narrates almost continually and is extremely knowledgeable.
He knows how and where to find the wildlife and cues the guests when to go on deck to see.
We saw sea lions, sea otters, numerous birds, including puffins on nests, humpbacks, and dall porpoise (riding the bow wave right below us) - truly wonderful wildlife.
The long trip and pause to see a calving glacier was time consuming and less interesting, though i think my opinion may have been in the minority. There was also a long pause so everyone could have the crew take their pictures in front of an iceberg.
BUT--- unfortunately during the last several hours of this 8 hour trip the captain began presenting to his captive audience his personal views on climate change (the glaciers in alaska are actually growing), unions (well-paid pipeline workers went on strike because their ice cream wasn't delivered), government regulation (regulations following Exxon Valdez spill led to the increase in oil prices). He stated he doesn't like steller's sea lions because they eat too many fish that fishermen need (i believe this has been disproved in studies) and says they are increasing (also not true according to my reading).
Several hours of this ill-informed propaganda almost ruined an otherwise marvelous experience.

Beautifully maintained boat, great service and an amazing tour.

Advertised as 5-7 hours, we spent over 8 hours out on the Sound following orcas, playing with dall's porpoises and watching massive walls of ice calve off the Columbia Glacier.

The captain - Fred - was great and navigated to within 1/4 of a mile of the Columbia Glacier. He also took us amazingly close in to caves along the coast to see the Puffins.

It was a great trip, thoroughly enjoyed it and great value.

The LuLuBelle is a beautiful boat, it is immaculately clean, very plush and comfortable. You can view the icebergs, Columbia glacier and abundance of wildlife from anywhere on the boat, inside from the comfort of a lounge area with oriental rugs beneath your feet or from on top of the boat or even next to the captain. They only take a small number of people out, there was about 20 people on our trip so it was very personal and we had a huge amount of space on the boat to make the viewing superb. Captain Fred is a great character with an amazing amount of enthusiasm and knowledge. Whilst viewing humpback whales for over an hour our only distraction was from the kitchen where brownies were being freshly baked, the smell was divine, we also enjoyed freshly cooked popcorn. More than enough hot food and snacks was available from onboard and very reasonably priced, no need to take anything with you. The wildlife was endless, sea otters, humpbacks, sea lions, dull porpoises, eagles, jelly fish and we could basically touch the ice we was so close to the glacier and the icebergs. This is by far the best boat trip we have ever been on. I can not recommend the LuLuBelle enough. You would be crazy to visit Valdez and not enjoy this wonderful boat and crew.
