“Great small museum”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

This is a very interesting and well-done museum with so much to show they added an annex on a nearby street. Very knowledgeable staff. Beautifully-restored fire engines (hand-pumped), must see to believe the shine. Have been to a lot of museums all over the world and this is up there.

“Great place to spend a rainy day”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

We were camped in Valdez at the Bayside RV park on a rainy day waiting for the ferry to Whittier. The owner of the park suggested a visit to the museum to spend some interesting time. She was right on. The museum is well done, full of neat stuff that tells the history of Valdez and has a really nice video presentation of the history of aviation in Alaska. It's well worth a visit. As for the Bayside RV park, if you need a nice place to camp in Valdez, this is the place. It's super clean, right downtown with a beautiful view of the bay just as it says, and very comfortable. But the best thing about the place is every afternoon, the owner feeds the eagles. Fishermen give him bait fish and the eagles congregate in the far away trees just waiting for him to toss a fish. It's indescribable watching the eagles dive maybe 20 feet away grabbing the fish in their claws. It's a camera time biggie. BTW, the owner has a license to feed the eagles. Enjoy!

“Nice History Museum”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

The history of Valdez is very interesting, and this museum tells its stories well. The annex has more about the earthquake and the transition to the new town site so make sure you get over there (it's generally walkable; the whole town is!). Admission for both buildings was $7 for adults and the kids were free, so it was very reasonable. The kids found plenty to interest them.

“Highly recommend - even for kids!”

It's an interesting place. The separate building dedicated to the 1964 earthquake is well worth the extra trip.

“Very well done, worth spending time”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

I was very impressed by this museum in Valdez. It is worth spending an hour or two learning more about the area, the history, and it's people. Very interesting story on the movement of town because of the 1964 earthquake. Although the museum is small, it packs alot of information and it is very well done. The team that works there were very knowledgeable and shared their stories in a interesting way. Well worth the visit and time.We went to all 3 museums in Valdez and was glad we did. They all did a great job.
