I love this little museum! The price of admission gets you in to two locations--the museum by the docks and the museum in town on Egan. My favorite display is the Chilkoot section--a display of the materials that prospective gold miners were required to bring with them up the Chilkoot trail. There's lots of info on the indigenous tribes that lived in the area, the gold rush era, the earthquake and tragedy of 1964, and the pipeline rush. Shouldn't be missed, especially if the weather doesn't cooperate with sight-seeing.

Small good museum, a lot of information. Do not miss the part dealing with Old Valdez and the earthquake.

this is not just a small town museum. it is beautifully displayed with articles and artifacts that can appeal to all interest and age levels. staff is very knowledgeable. there are three museums in town. the partner to this one concentrates on Old Valdez and Valdez before the 1964 earthquake. there is a museum at the community college which supposedly has the largest collection of native artifacts in the state. some say the world. i could have easily spent more time in all three. other visitors were also very impressed. these museums could be at home in the state's larger or more touristed cities

Take time to visit this small museum - packed with history and artifacts. I always hit museums in any city I visit - this one keeps me coming back.
