Thank you for your review. The AK tour saver book is a new program for us this year. I am ecstatic that your stay was pleasant! We are definitely in the middle of updating the hotel. I am hopeful you are able to stay with us again and see the progress!
We had no choice in hotels while in Valdez because we took a Globus tour. I understand that not all the places we travel to will have the best accommodations, and Alaska is probably more rugged than what I am accustomed to in terms of travel. If the rooms are clean and the staff is nice, I can deal with a lot of things. In this case, the room was fine. Small with a small bathroom, much like a lot of basic hotels you might find in other places. A bit shabby but clean enough and the staff was very nice to us. There were places in the hall and lobby area that should have been repaired. Nothing major, things like missing tiles, but just a little effort would have reduced the shabby look. We stayed on the first floor and were very intrigued about the basement level, as many of the windows that faced the street were boarded up. I ventured downstairs to take a peek at the lower level hallway, and it wasn't kept up. Doubt they were renting out the rooms, but the boarded windows gave the place a decaying look. If I were driving into town and saw the hotel from the outside, I would probably have looked for another place to stay. We had to cross the road to eat at a nearby restaurant, which was a bit of a relief.
thank you for review! it looks as though you were part of a tour group. i hope you enjoyed your stay. let me address the finer points of your review:
I do agree that rooms and bathrooms are a bit small, but we have the largest standard rooms in Valdez.
basement level rooms are used as a last resort.. primarily for bus drivers and tour directors if main floor rooms are occupied. the windows are boarded up prior to the snow coming in, otherwise they'd cave in from the amount we get in Valdez.
as for dining across the street.. we did have a restaurant in-house, but they were unable to to fulfill their lease and have left the premises.
i know our hotel probably does not meet your expectations of hotels you would see in larger cities. being in the middle of nowhere, in a middle of a nowhere state, it is extremely difficult to obtain necessities for maintenance, food service, pretty much anything you would take for granted in a larger city. Mickey D's, home depot, starbucks? all of those are a 6+ hour drive.. EACH WAY. we do try with what we have and i hope the staff is a small indication of that.
we do have plans to renovate, but again procuring the materials and goods are a huge obstacle.
i thank you again for your review and hope you are able to stay with us again and see the progress we are making.
Came into Valdez at the end of some major rains (about ten inches in 12 days) It was nice to have a clean room nicely appointed, warm and dry. Nothing spectacular, but with everything being so expensive in Valdez this isn't a bad choice.
Thank you for your review. I hope you get to stay with us again!
It was a bit seedy looking when we arrived, but "don't judge a book by its' cover". Then, I opened the book! Smelly room in the "basement", single window on eye level with the parking lot, lovely view of a Dumpster. Forty-some degrees and rainy outside--NO HEAT! Maintenance was gone for day, and the desk clerk told me I'd have to wait until the next day for any heat. They did re-locate me the next day, ( gave me a room on the first floor), but I had to schlep my own luggage to the new room after a day sightseeing on Prince William Sound. I would never, ever stay there again!
Hello Sally Sue,
I am sorry that our hotel was not up to your standards. Throughout the year, we try not to put anyone down on the basement level unless it is a last resort. I apologize an employee did not move mountains to at least get you a space heater.
We are undergoing a major overhaul on all of our rooms. Unfortunately, with limited access to home depot or lowe's and being buried in snow in the off season, renovations and its progress is not that of hotels in larger cities. We are working towards fixing a lot of things, not putting bandaids on them.
If you do stay with us again, please contact me directly and I assure your stay will be memorable in the good way.
At first it seems a bit odd, then the feeling is replaced by curiosity and finally appreciated and thanks. Room meticulous level is not clear, every item and object seem invested in it thought. Both environmental and pragmatic. Kitchen is open and inviting, comfortable and easy. Meager price will wash alone, plus a little to get everything laundered and ironed the morning after. wonderful day that we made and exit the packaging was easy and fast
Thank you for your review. I hope you get to stay with us again soon!
Everything promised was delivered.
Room was clean and comfortable and had all the kit (hair dryers, iron, fridge and microwave)
Initially a bit of room noise due to noisy neighbors but they stopped at 1000 hrs and everything was quiet and got a good night sleep.
Paid $159 + Tax for a 2 x QS room. No breakfast included but there is a Safeway next door and it has great range of products. Did not wish to pay the $12 a head for breakfast in the restuarant so just stocked up the night before and had a good breakfast in the room.
There is also a Subway just over the street.
Thank you for your review. I hope you get to stay with us soon! By the way, the restaurant is no longer here.
