“Beautiful location, very noisy rooms.”
Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

Location is beyond words, breathtaking. Staff extremely helpful and interesting. Rooms need soundproofing. We can hear neighbors talking though the connecting wall, and the plumbing from upstairs is amplified.

We stayed here 1 night after having 2 nights at the Denali Park Lodge. We were in the oldest building #1, but it was so convenient to the main lodge that it was perfect for us.. The rooms here were much larger than the Denali Park Lodge. We had dinner & breakfast at the Mountainview Restaurant which was excellent in both cases (the blueberry baked French toast was spectacular!!). I enjoyed the more intimate feel of this smaller lodge without the same hustle & bustle at Denali Park Lodge and with a great sitting area by the fire or looking out over the deck to Mt. McKinley (on a clear day). The downside here is that it is an hour drive from Talkeetna where many of the extra tours & activities take place. But, if you like hiking & ranger activities, then this is the place since they are right on site here within Denali State Park.

Room Tip: Loved building 1 for its location directly across from main lodge.

Six glorious days on the Diamond Princess from Vancouver to Whittier, train through Anchorage to Talkeetna, then a bus ride to the Lodge. Delighted our travel agent had recommended the Princess land tour after the ship. Even more delighted that she recommended we stay for three days at Mt McKinley Lodge - one more than the tour schedule. Time to experience the lodge and add a Jetboat experience, a flight onto the mountain by Talkeetna Air Taxi, a boat trip in the three rivers at Talkeetna. The mountain was clear for our whole stay - we were so lucky. Great accommodation - our lodge was quite a walk to the lodge - really good food in restaurants. We ate dinner twice outside on the deck, in the sunshine. But the surprise was Talkeetna - a one hour shuttle from the lodge - chowder at the Wildflower Cafe, the most amazing crab claws from the West Rib Restaurant - $25 for the best crab claws (5) - both recommendations from fellow travellers. Four people beer, white win and meals for $140 - that's hard to beat. And the views of Denali from the lodge deck and restaurants could occupy hours. Luggage handling was so easy.

Room Tip: Our room was away from the lodge - not a problem

The lodge was nicer than we expected. The public areas were very spacious and didn't seem crowded. The seating placed to view the mountains was very nice and a roaring fireplace made you feel like you were in a mountain resort. The restaurants were good. The food was tasty and the service was good. The buildings that made up the lodge could use some updating, but the room its self was very good. Our stay was part of a cruise tour package, but if I had to do it again, I would spend an extra day in the Denali Park area and forget the Talkeetna area. It is closer to the mountain, but most of the time you can't see it anyway. If you take the Park Road into Denali, you can get a good view of the mountain without going to the Talkeetna area.

Quick and easy check in and out. Staff warm and welcoming. We were in building 24/ 2nd floor for two nights. Close walking distance to view " Denali" (as the local told us to call the mountain) and access the lodge. We spend most of our time away from the lodge viewing the natural beauty of the area. We planned our attraction travels with rental car from Anchorage airport (ANC). The 5am/ two hour drive to the national park was ok for us. (Always add extra travel time for because of the road work). Our building room was quiet and clean! (did not see elevator to second floor, we were able to carry luggage upstairs). Bed was very comfy and room spacious. Having the laundry room was great. No wait for the one washing machine/two dryers, perhaps because it was Tuesday morning. Immediate response from housekeeping (for extra towels) and engineering staff (batteries for remote)! Good food portions from the Grizzly Bar take out. Small refrigerator (for medication) and flat screen TV (for early morning/late night programming) would have been great! additions.

Room Tip: Choose first floor lodging if you have lots of luggage or difficulty walking up stairs.

OK - Let me start by saying we were on a Princess CruiseTour, and booked the high end, escorted land tour. As a result, I think we were assigned to the nicest buildings and locations. We were in building 23 - and enjoyed the view and the quiet at night. Two of the best nights sleep I've gotten in a long time. The resort overall is very nice, and it was easy to walk from #23 to the main lodge where all the dining and bus connections are. If you are an independent traveler, I don't know that this location makes sense, since its very remote and you might be put off by the overwhelming volume of Princess "cruise" package tourist coming and going.

They only have 3 short hiking trails - a little disappointed that there wasn't more "outdoor" activities during the day. Noticed a lot of people in the main lodge reading books and playing board games (I didn't travel to Alaska to sit on my butt!). We made it work, but I'd probably try to figure out how to get to the state park and hike during the day.

Room Tip: Building 23 is a very good location.

Very comfortable lodge in the middle of nowhere. There is very few hotels in the area and certainly not many of this quality. Enjoyed watching the sun set (but not fully since it was summer) on the extensive deck looking out at the Alaskan Range. Great atmosphere, food and drinks, The rooms were very comfortable, clean and appointed with everything you need. There's a fire pit area where the staff have a few fires going every evening. Only slight inconveniences where the lack of elevators in the lodge buildings (only 2 stories) and no internet in the rooms (available in the lobby). Great overnight stop to visit Talkeetna or on your way to Denali Since most of the hotel is booked through Princess cruise/land packages, individual rooms were extremely reasonable ($125/night) vs. the Talkeetna lodge. Would definitely return!
