“All this and Mckinley Too!”

The food at the Denali Princess was better. I ordered a steak that turned out so tough and full of grizzle that I couldn't cut it with a steak knife. I ask the waitress if they had a chainsaw back in the kitchen??? The manager compensated me with a free desert. I suggested that he send the chef for retraining.

Room Tip: Skip the steak at the restaurant!

We stayed at this property for 1 night stay. The rooms were very clean and nice but simple and basic. Very thin walls. The main lodge was nice but more of a bus or airport terminal with a million people coming and going. The food and restaurants were good food but limited menus. The property was nice but nowhere near as nice as the denali princess lodge.

This is a very nice hotel. The room was nice and mostly clean. There was no elevator in the lodge that we stayed in. It was a bit difficult lugging the suitcases to the 2nd floor. The outdoor hot tubs were nice, however there are only 2 for the entire property. There is no outdoor pool. The property was beautiful and was well priced. The service was fine.

Overall, it was one of the better places we stayed in Alaska. They have a restaurant with good food and friendly staff, but the food choices are limited. The beds were comfortable, there's no A/C (but they do have a ceiling fan), and no elevator. They have a number of trails you can hike, a nice lodge with views of Mt. McKinley. Also, there's no wifi in the rooms. They also have an expresso bar and a game room where you can grab one of the board games they offer and play it in the lodge.

I'm rating it very good, but that's only because I'm comparing it to some other places I've stayed in Alaska. Remember, you're in the wilderness folks, so your choices are limited.

We just completed the Cruisetour. This was our first stop and truthfully, made me nervous about the rest of the trip. (Full Disclosure: the rest of the trip was MAGNIFICENT!) The best thing about our experience here was that we did see Mt. McKinley, which is every bit as breathtaking as you have heard. This lodge is not horrible and certainly not majestic, but based on the Denali Princess Lodge and the Diamond Princess, our reaction when we arrived was ".....really?" The "cabins" other reviewers have referenced are more akin to small motels strewn about the property with no A/C and VERY thin walls. The decor is very 70's roadside motel. We also had a slight problem with the Tour Desk personnel in that they kept insisting incorrectly on the departure time for our Sun Dog Kennel excursion (AWESOME!) and cutting us off before we could get our question out. Perhaps they were overtired? or tired of hearing the question over and over? We were surprised based on previous positive Princess experiences. Only spent one night there and the rest of the land segment of this cruise tour was everything I hoped it would be.

After a wonderful cruise through Alaska, we arrived at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge and found it so relaxing, a spectacular setting and the fireplace aglow made for a wonderful stay. The restaurants were good and then playing shuffleboard in the game room was lots of fun, we didn't find that in any other lodge. The tours offered there and the transportation was right on time and the people couldn't have been nicer.

Room Tip: The pool wasn't terrible, there just wasn't one there, but there were hot tubs.

A great lodge to stay in. This was part of the Princess cruise and land tour so they booked us here. They handled our luggage for us getting from hotel to hotel. The hotel is actually several cabin-like buildings nestled in trees around the main lodge. Each building may have 4-8 rooms. The rooms were rustic but comfortable. There is no A/C so be forewarned. There is a ceiling fan plus a table fan you can use if you wish. There are also screens on the windows so you can open a window. Note that most of the time in Alaska the air is fairly cool or comfortable. It just happened to be unusually warm when we were there (in the 80s) but it does cool down at night so we were okay.
When we arrived at the hotel, we walked to huge back porch of the main lodge and were greeted with the most spectacular view of the Mt. McKinley and neighboring mountains. Fantastic! The mountain was only about 30 miles away from the lodge (as told by a sign nearby) so this was very close. There were lots of comfortable chairs on the patio so we sat and had a glass of wine and just stared at the majestic views. Heavenly.
There are several restaurants there and each is good. Service was good, food good, prices were typical of Alaska. A great place to stay.

Room Tip: If you don't like walking a lot, ask for a room closer to main lodge and restaurants. Some of th...
