Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge
Reviewed July 27, 2011

We stayed at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge as part of a Princess Cruiseline arranged landtour. Our room was clean, quiet and pretty dark at night (even in June). However, I felt that the lodge grounds were limited and we either had to entertain our kids with cards and games (this is what we did) or go to Princess arranged entertainment with it's attached price tag. The trails around the property are fairly short and we knocked them out in less than a day. Unless you have a car, you are pretty much at the mercy of Princess and have to eat at the lodge restaurants which I thought were pretty average. I did enjoy the ambiance at the 20,320 restaurant and the view of the top of Mt. McKinley we got from the large windows facing the mountain during breakfast was pretty incredible. It definitely had some magical parts, but was more confining than I would have liked.

Much better, cleaner and more modern than the Denali property. Great views and great customer service. Miller Tyme was our bus driver from the lodge to Talkeetna; what a great guy with awesome stories. We booked via the Princess Rail Tours website and got a great value, including our train transportation! Highly recommend.

If you're going to the Alaska Interior to see Denali, this is where you want to stay. Although its a long haul (hours and hours) to the official park entrance, this is where you should stay to actually see the Mountain. Excellent food at the restaurants - salmon salad and pies can't be beat. Very friendly people driving the shuttle buses. We didn't have a chance to try any excursions, but there were a good number to choose from. Was dissapointed one of the onsite trails was closed when we were there. Overall, I'd recommend it for the view and the food.

Make sure you also take a couple days to drive to the actual park entrance and take a trip inside to see some wildlife.

We stayed on our way from Seward to denial. It was fabulous and quite reasonable. Our dinner cost more than our room. The view of mt McKinley could,t be beat. Comfy room. Would stay again if we ever returned. Staff was great.

We really enjoyed the lodge and restaurant offerings. The dinner play was great.

We, too, had the opportunity to see Mt. McKinley at its greatest. We took the Denali Air trip around the mountain. Great!!

Everyone was very helpful and friendly at the Princess Wilderness Lodge. We had two wooden bears sent to our home from Alaska Furs and Gifts. Great chainsaw crafts that fit well into our log home in West Virginia.

Thanks for the great hospitality and scenery.

We stayed here during one of the legs on our land tour. The property is beautiful! Very well-kept--amazing views. There are 3 restaurants on the property (one is a saloon, but offers bar-type food)... the service was slow, but got in at about 9pm and went straight to eat. The food was good and the prices are the same anywhere you go in the Denali area.

We enjoyed this rip. We spent 2 nights at the lodge. The food was good and the waitstaff were fantastic, The room had 2 double beds which was a bit of a bummer since we were celebrating our anniversary. The room was rather motel 6 in decor but was roomy and comfortable. The problem is that there is absolutley nothing to do on site. There are a couple of walking trails that took us less than an hour to complete. The property caters to the elderly who seemed to enjoy sitting in the lodge and talking.
