The hotel is fighting for its existence against the big brands within its vicinity. You may think of it as a rundown hotel or boutique, all cement with no paints outside, but the inside made me smile and felt like home. The hotel is easy to locate from Takaoka Station. The location itself was quiet but booming.

I booked this hotel thru booking.com and was the cheapest there. Before you enter the hotel, you have to go on stairs which was like more or less than 10 steps which I believe a bad idea especially with luggage like I had. Well that was forgivable in my case but stairs to enter the hotel with luggage, much more for the elders going to that hotel was really a poor idea.

I requested for early check-in and arrived at 10:30. I am not sure if man and woman who attended to me were the owners but hands down they were accommodating. I requested thru booking.com to have an early check in. Good thing I printed out my request because the woman would like me to tour first the city before checking in but when I had the request read by her, she welcomed me, paid my dues and pointed my room.

As I got on the floor, my room was open and thought I was welcomed only to find out that it was up for cleaning and the caretaker had to rush in to clean it up. In short, it was not ready which was fine. I used the wifi connection and it was not even working so I did not mind at all as long as I can freshen up. When I entered the bathroom, I just noticed the cigarette burn marks in the toilet bowl which was a clear indication that the room was used as a smoking room some time ago. The hotel during my check in already implemented a non-smoking policy in all its rooms already.

Toured the city and came back at night from Kanazawa and explained to the owner that the wifi was not working. The man attended to me and spoke fluently in English to attend to it and was resolved immediately. It worked but only for few minutes. So it was.

The hotel is in the Takaoka Station north exit but I used to walk to Sukiya (a famous fast food chain in Japan) which is in the Takaoka station south exit. The hotel is also near to tourist spots like Doraemon statue in the mall and bus center, Takaoka Daibutsu Buddha and Takaoka Castle Ruins. The Zuiryuji Temple is near to Sukiya. The hotel also got me an easy access not only via Ainokaze Railway but also JR line as I went to Johana the next day to go to Gokayama and Shirakawago.

The hotel room is big for solo traveller but the basic amenities like slippers I thought not available were only hidden under the desk so make sure to observe or ask if that is usable (I had my own by the way). I never had a chance to ask them if I can leave my luggage with them for few hours but ask them so. I just realized that the coin lockers in Takaoka Station before the stairs were all vacant except mine so it will greatly save you 600 yen if you ask the hotel. When it comes to price, the hotel is a little bit pricey which was forced to leverage itself with the big brands near it.
