Having spent a great holiday at this hotel last year, this year was just as good. We were greeted like family and it was amazing how the staff remember guests from year to year. It could be that we always have a laugh with staff at the hotels we stay in and always treat them with respect and are courteous. Saying please and thank you costs nothing. All the staff at this hotel are friendly and helpful and deserve a special mention. The guys at the beach bar restaurant were wonderful, supplying us ladies with rubber gloves filled with ice to cool us down when it was very hot. Thanks! We were treated to an Indian meal one evening and because my husband and I do not eat Indian, we were cooked a European meal which was excellent, the only problem being that there was too much and we couldn't eat it all.

The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and the service from everyone was second to none. There is no problem with the drinks and water is left each day in the room. However the water in the fridge in the room is payable. There is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We had a family room on the ground floor where the terrace afforded a view of the gardens, the pool and the sea. Great location. The gardens are kept beautiful. There are cocktails served each evening whilst watching the sun go down. There is a jetty where you can walk and see so many beautiful fish, or swim.

The Thomson Rep. Ahmed Ragab was fantastic (the best we have had in a long time). He was always at the hotel at 9 in the morning at the same spot in front of the pool bar and stayed for his full 2 hours (actually sometimes longer) and also in the evening.

The only downside was that our flight had already been changed by almost 4 hours before we left and then we got caught up in the French air traffic controllers' strike which meant that we didn't leave the hotel until 10.00p.m. We were given a voucher at the airport to receive food at Costa but unfortunately the food on offer was not to our taste (smoked turkey or salami Panini, slice of apple pie, small bag of crisps and a bottle of water or a can of pepsi). Tea and coffee was payable. As we didn't eat the food we were asked what was wrong with it. On explaining it was not to our taste and that we would rather have had a cup of tea, the manager brought us 4 cups of tea and 4 chocolate brownie bars. This went down well, so thanks to Costa for that.

We landed at Gatwick at 5.55a.m. but did not receive our luggage until about 8.30. The only explanation given was that some tour operators were experiencing problems with baggage. The long wait necessitated us having to pay an additional £10 for parking of the hire car booked to bring us from the airport to home.

This was a good holiday and we have nothing but praise for all the staff at the hotel. WELL DONE IBEROTEL LAMAYA RESORT

went in 2009 and returned 29th may for 2 weeks the hotel was very good the management and staff could not do enough for you. our representative ahmed was excellent. however we were delayed coming home and we were told if we wanted a meal at the hotel we would have to pay 17 euros. the flight was delayed by 5 hours so the flight coming in from Gatwick did not arrive at marsa alam until 1am . so many people were put up at this hotel for one night free of charge we were very disappointed that they wanted to charge us for dinner. saying all this it is a great hotel and would return some time in the future.

Very nice reception area was first impression.
We asked for quiet room on top floor and when the patio doors were opened to disperse the awful smell in the room (like rotting veg) there was a childrens play area right outside our room.
Off we went to reception without even unpacking and they were helpful and changed it for us then and there.
Rooms are spacious ,we were given room 2321 a family room .The furniture is a little tired apart from the bathroon which is very nice ,just as well as I spent quite a while in there with an upset stomach for 2 days.
The whole management team appeared for the meet and greet which was a nice touch .
On the whole the food was usual 4 star holiday offerings and not bad .
If you have special requirements they will do their best for you .
One lady needed help to get in the pool as she had arthritus so after discussion, they offered and found a solution for her which was an exercise step to bridge the gap so she could reach.
They are keen to help with problems if you just ask so 5* for that .
Found it very quiet and we are not party animals ,not much to do or see unless you want a long trip and we have been to Egypt before so have already done most of these.
There is a large reef right on the beach so apart from a really long pontoon ,there is no beach access to the sea.
Well done for tryinhg to protect the corals as it is roped off but you can see the fish by swimming alongside the roped area.
Some nice fish but nothing I have not seen before many times.
Hotel grounds are very nicely maintained.
Service is best at the beach bar ,well done guys.
Pool is large ,fairly clean .Loungers are metal with no padded cushion and frankly very uncomfortable after a while.
Cannot comment on kids facilities as didnt have need to use it but the animation team were always around ,aerobics ,archery etc .
This hotel needs something to give it some atmosphere in the evenings .Local craft stalls /market stalls or something coming to the hotel once a week as in other hotels .
There was no waiter service for drinks not even coffee you had to get your own which was difficult carrying your food ouside as well as drinks .It has to be done in one trip or the sparrows will decend in droves onto your plate so do not leave your meal unattended outside.
The rep was helpful and seems to carry around remedy for " upset " stomach with cramps .
I gave very good rating as the staff are obviously trying hard to deliver good service but there is not enough of them .
An ok hotel if you want a hot sunshine break but not really for us .

Only trip we took was the tompson snorkelling boat trip .Overpriced of course ,food was ok it filled a gap .Basic water or cola was supplied or tea or coffee .I cannot drink drinks with that amount of sugar and there were no light drinks supplied !
Boat staff were nice though.

Went to Lamaya in the Easter holidays for a week (wished it was longer!). We had a fantastic time here and would definitely return! Everything was great but especially all the staff, they were so friendly and helpful. Our children(6,9)loved so many of them but especially the Mumu, Casper and Chicco from the Animation team, who really made their holiday. The hotel, pools and gardens are immaculately kept. The tropical fish were incredible and the sea so warm, we snorkeled a few times from the jetty but there is also access to the sea from the beach. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel, it's great. We didn't want to leave!

Been 4 times so far in Egypt, Sharm ,Luxor and Hurghada, but this time we found what we were looking for. Marsa Alam is different to the rest of resorts because of protect reefs and marine life.
We wanted quite and relax holiday , with decent snorkelling and good food.
Rooms: clean every day with nice decorations, but we had the same bed sheets for 14 days . you can ask to be change if you want. We stayed in 1149, little noise 7 am for diving school and the donkey.
Food: 2 restaurants , both with nice and good food. Alcohol not bad and lots of choices.
Snorkelling: fantastic. take a nice underwater camera with you.
Pool: small but not busy with nice bool bar.
Good point: water bottle free every day in the room, but the room bar is not free.
Internet: you got 100 MB free, and 250 MB for 10 euro, not bad!
Shops: few around the hotel , but don't pay the price the ask.
Thompson trips: not to many because of the location. We did Cairo (pyramids and museum) but I don't recommend this trip from this location because is too far. Trip started 1:30 am and gone back at 12:30 pm.
Over all this holiday was perfect for us, with very good price from Thompson, and exact what we like to do on holiday.
If you like disco or night clubs go in Spain , this holiday doesn't offer you this.
You this review I will like to thank you Thompson Rep: Ahmed, he is working every day , and help you with all you need.
I 'd like to return here for more scuba or snorkelling.

Room Tip: general all rooms are good ,i prefer sea view.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel, for which we didnt initially book, the hotel we had booked had been removed from Thomsons brochure. The hotel itself was nice with large clean rooms and a sea view at no exr=tra cost. The restraunt was ok but need to put more veg/potatoe dishes on for main meals usually only one choice and if you dont like potatoe in tomatoe sauce then thats it. The pasta station was very good as my partner is a vegetarian so they cleaned the pans after each customer so good. What really let this hotel down was no waiter service from the bars and had to get own drinks in restraunt and no local white rum available and the entertainment was absolutely horrendous the same singer every night singing the same songs each night..... he only did 5 nights a week and when he was off nothing else not even some back ground music as other hotels in Egypt. these few things definately took it from 5 star to 3/4 star, minimum waiter service for us other than that the hotel was clean and the staff very helpfull change the entertainer provide white rum and waiter service and then you have the makings of a great hotel

Room Tip: any in block 2 is fine
