“Just what we needed - perfect break from UK cold weather”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We apent a week at the Iberotel Coraya in March 2013 with our little 2 and a half year old boy. To be honest it was a perfect break. The hotel was excellent from start to finish. The room was large and spotless, the grounds were well kept, the staff incredibly friendly and the food was wonderful.
We spent every day on the beach, which again was perfect for what we needed; some sunbathing, some paddling in the shallows with the toddler, and some snorkelling (which is great).
It is such a shame that they won't be taking children anymore after May as it was perfectly set up for this. Nothing was too much trouble.

Please reconsider the child policy, because we will be back again and again.

A last minute booking resulted in us finding this gem - Marsa airport is clean and modern , and the transfer to the hotel took only 10-15 minutes .
The hotel is of a traditional design , spacious and very clean . Our first room was set back in a warren of pathways - the room blocks I think were designed to replicate a small Egyptian city suburb with squares and small shops , however even before any beer it was often confusing and difficult to find our room .
Thankfully after day one we managed to get a room nearer the main pool area , which was also more protected from the consistent wind that seemed to blow in off the Red Sea . The Catalaya Beach was relatively sheltered compared to the two hotels across the bay , which is another good reason to choose this property .
All the staff were very friendly and approachable , most spoke 2-3 languages as they seemed to mainly cater to the German and French markets .
The main dining area was spacious and the buffet offerings were excellent with a good mix of European and local dishes - service was cheerful and attentive .
The beach was great - clean and perfect for walking . Good umbrellas , loungers and wind breaks were plentiful ; snorkelling was decent , and a wet suit recommended as it takes a few minutes to get along the reef to the fish . Access to the water was carefully controlled via ropes and buoys to protect the reef . Boule , volleyball , stretching classes , table tennis, squash and tennis were also on offer .
Nightly entertainment above the main pool deck was enthusiastic and varied with the entertainment team seemingly winning the hearts of the customers , but do not expect a slick west end style show .
The spa was accessible to all inclusive guests , but as a half boarder there was apparently a cost to use the indoor pool and jacuzzi . Massages were good , with well trained local staff . The sales team were quick to offer deals on a course of treatments , and full one hour massages averaged out at 30 euros each . They also presumed that every couple want a shared room experience , if that's not for you they will accommodate lone treatments but only after persistent requests.
All in all I would definitely return , but the absence of a golf course and the lack of any other tennis players was a minus ( I logged my name at the fitness desk to see if anyone else was looking for a game , but this request seemed novel to the staff ) however if it just relaxation you want at a reasonable price , this is the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool are easier to find , and sheltered from the sea breeze.

We returned the Coraya in January 2013 after an absence of one year and were not disappointed. Everything you read is true this hotel is an oasis it is well managed by Mr. Saber and his staff. In every department from gardening to reception the staff are courteous and always helpful. The food was excellent as always and no tummy troubles at all. The hotel is changing to couples only from May 2013 I think this will work well, although not impressed with the summer flight schedule from Gatwick, thanks Thomson. I do not know of any hotel that has an enormous number of returning guests, that speaks for itself.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent and in buidings of around 8-9 rooms in 2 to 3 storeys.

I have stayed in Egypt many times and this is the best hotel I've stayed in there yet. I endorse all the good comments from other reviewers, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff attentive and welcoming. Our party did not suffer any of the tummy problems we have had on some occasions staying Egypt, but to be honest I have come to the conclusion that most of these are down to fellow guests who do not carry out basic hygiene and then blame the hotel. There are hand wash dispensers in the dining room but we were the only ones I saw using them, am I fussy, maybe but on one trip was hospitalised with dysentery and do not ever want to repeat that.
As always in Egypt a small tip goes a long way so even if you are on all inclusive be prepared to tip bar staff, porters and room staff, all will accept any currency so they will happily accept a £1 coin, but be open to approaches of requests to change 10 coins for a note so they can cash it in. There is a very fancy machine in the hotel that will exchange just about any paper currency to Egyptian pounds if you need to change money and gave a reasonable rate, so no need to queue at the post office for currency. If you have never been to Egypt before this would be an excellent first trip choice, be aware though Marsa Alam has the desert to the West and the Red Sea to the East so there are not any attractions outside the hotel but if you want to sit on a beach getting some winter sun or are into scuba diving, as we are this is the place to be.

3rd time at this amazing hotel for a fantastic winterbreak from March 9 till 16. The rooms are large and spotless ( thanks for the sea view ! ) the food is excellent : every night something tasty on the bbq on the terrasse. Lovely good sized pools and great snorkelling. The people are very friendly, special thanks to Hedra for the Arabic lessons on the beach and the mint tea ! If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun, this is the place to be !

Well we're do we begin! After reading all the reviews on tripadvisor we thought they all couldn't be true! Because everyone is so positive ( But they were all right ). The hotel is exceptional in almost every way. The hotel is fantastic!!! Our sea view room 2016 was great we had a very comfortable bed and great bathroom all which were kept spotless by our wonderful cleaner who everyday he did the little extra touches like fresh flowers in the bathroom and wonderful things made by the towels, just forgotten to say that our room had a wonderful dome ceiling which kept it very cool and guess what the air conditioning worked fantastic toooo! Which we needed because the weather was very hot. The food was very good plenty of choice and was always hot.
The snorkelling was very good saw blue spotted stingray, and lots more, the beach is 5second walk from the edge of the hotel not 15mins like some one mentioned in there report. Every thing was so spotless and the pools were wonderful. The reception was very helpful they couldn't do enough for you they were very happy to help you with everything you would need to make your holiday enjoyable. The only one negative that we had was the entertainment it wasn't to great but that would not put us off we will definitely be coming back to this great hotel.
Thank you to everyone for making our holiday great see you all again soon
Two very happy customers . :)

This hotel is only a 10 minute journey from the airport - great airport - the best of any I've seen in Egypt and full of plenty of amenities for the return jouney. The hotel rooms are set out like in a medina and because all the buildings are the same colour, it can take a few days to orientate yourself. Food was very good - a nice selection of Egyptian foods at breakfast and dinner. You'll find the BBQ evening special out on the terrace. Hubby liked the snorkelling which was off the beach. This hotel shares a bay with three other hotels but it does have the premier location. Staff excellent. Booked a package of massages - which were surprisingly good and reasonably priced by UK standards. We went in February and it was rather windy onsite - so chose a poolside room. I expect in the summer a seaview room would be nice with the breeze.
