We always study trip advisor when choosing our resort hotel and we have never been disappointed. This time though, we were delighted. The rooms are extremely comfortable and so clean like the whole site. The standard of food is the best we have had in Egypt, the Chef is always on hand and will always try to meet any special requests.(Needless to say, absolutely no stomach problems.) We mainly stayed around the pool which was normally peaceful and we never had any problem getting a sun bed at any time of day. The drinks service around the pool was excellent as well.
The animation team did a great job entertaining and attempting to keep us active.(Afraid they failed miserably keeping us active though we did manage darts. Sorry Katie, Jerry, Moo Moo & Cheeko .)
Like all the previous reviewers have said, the staff here are exceptional and after a couple of days you feel you are getting personal service. I would like to thank them all without exception.
I’ve struggled to find a negative comment to make and failed. We enjoyed every minute of this holiday and were really sad to leave. Back next year. Insha’Allah.
PS. If you read this review but are reluctant to book a Red Sea holiday because of the problems in Cairo don’t be. You are so far from these trouble spots it could be a million miles.

From the moment we landed till we left, we enjoyed every second. Ahmed the First Choice Representative made us feel welcome and at ease, the hotel staff from the towel boys to the Gardeners were exceptionally polite and helpful. The service around pool and beach restaurant were superb with special thanks to Mustafa and Yousef. Special mention must go to Ragab who should be the bench mark for all waiters, he was based in the restaurant and he looked after us above and beyond our expectation levels. The hotel is a well run, clean and had an intimate family feeling and we did not want to come home, the children were especially sad at having to leave. We would seriously consider coming along again next year

This hotel wasn't the one we booked, but when First Choice pulled out of the other hotel, this was the one we picked as an alternative. Glad we did!

We travelled on 31st July to 14th August 2013.

The hotel is relatively small with only 130 rooms. The room cleaners left us new towel arrangements each day ranging from elephants and crocodiles to a monkey hanging from the ceiling just inside the door!! The rooms were always clean and the beds were very comfy.

The staff are brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. I asked Chef Ahmed for rice pudding and he added it to the breakfast choice every day!

The food was terrific, all the normal choices for breakfast, cereals, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, fruit, pancakes, waffles, potatoes, scrambled egg, hot tomatoes, together with numerous choices of bread and rolls. The chef would even cook you an omelette to order.

Lunch had hot and cold choices, of salads, potatoes, rice, chicken, beef, fish, vegetables etc. Also the chef again would cook pasta with a choice of sauce and ingredients.

Dinner in the evening again include hot and cold choices, and most nights included an outside bbq.

No-one within our party had any upset stomachs whilst we were there!!

The waiters soon got to know you and remembered your drinks. Special thanks go to Ragaab, Ahmed and Hassan, all very friendly and helpful.

The pool bar served drinks from 9 am to 5.30pm and pizzas from noon. Ice cream was also available. My husband got up early one day, 4.45am, and sat by the pool reading and was soon brought a drink!!
You could collect your own drinks or the pool waiters would take orders and bring it to you, they again remembered your likes.

The access to the beach was within easy walking distance - approximately 10 minutes walk, there was a beach bar which served the same as the pool bar, along with a restaurant for lunchtimes.

The evening entertainment from the animation team was typical of other hotels in Egypt - good but not great - although a lot of effort was put into it. During the day they organised water polo, water aerobics, stretching, volleyball, and archery.

The shops around the hotel Souk area sold the general souvenirs. Mohamed from Shop number 6, jewellery shop opposite the Lamaya Hotel, was extremely helpful, honest and did not hassle you to enter his shop. I bought a gorgeous blue opal elephant ring for a very reasonable price. He's well worth a visit!!

The staff were always asking if every thing was alright and that you were happy. If you had a problem they would sort it out straight away. Not that I had any problems.

There is a dive company which serves the 4 hotel complex, but my son, aged 17, dived with Emperor Divers, which we booked from the UK prior to going, which is run by an English Couple, Luke and Tracey. A bus collects you from the hotel reception at 7.35am each day and brings you back later. The dive boats range in size but are all well equipped and the lunches on board were very good. The boats are based at Port Ghalib - 10 minutes up the road.

With all the problems in Cairo and other cities, we did not have any problems what so ever, it was like being in another country. The only way we heard about the problems was on the BBC World News in our room.

We enjoyed our holiday so much we are already looking to book again for next year!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor are quieter.

Just returned from an amazing two weeks at this hotel and haven’t stopped talking about it since getting back and already looking to return next year – assuming First Choice continue to have flights from Manchester (although been on their website and not looking good at the moment). Before I went I had mixed feelings about going to Egypt in July/August because of the heat and had also had friends who had been to Sharm el Sheikh and been ill so wasn’t sure what to expect – but I needn’t have worried, although temperatures were about 35 degrees, there was a nice breeze round the pool and we were sensible and stayed in the shade during the hottest part of the day, didn’t have ice cold drinks or the air conditioning too cold in the room and we weren’t ill at all.

I also had high expectations based on the reviews on trip advisor and it didn’t fail to live up to them. From arriving at the airport, not having long to wait for luggage as Marsa Alam is only a small airport, about 15 minutes to transfer to the hotel and being met by the Manager with Cocktails it was all a good start. He then escorted everyone to their rooms, luggage turned up a few minutes later and we then went to the restaurant for something to eat – although the restaurant had closed for the evening they provided us with a 3 course meal.

Staff at the hotel were exceptional – nothing was too much trouble, every day you were asked if everything was ok and was there anything else we needed – if you come back from this hotel unhappy you only have yourself to blame because they give you lots of opportunity for feedback. Our room was on the second floor with a pool view and was cleaned every day with the room boy leaving us a towel animal – including a rabbit, turtle, crocodile and one day a monkey hanging from the ceiling ! He also left us two bottles of water every day and if we ran out we could always refill them from the water machine at the pool bar.

Once the staff knew what we were drinking, we didn’t need to ask again – Mohammed around the pool always seemed to time it right bringing us drinks without us having to ask - on the odd occasion I walked to the pool bar he told me to sit back down and he would bring them. Same in the restaurant, no sooner had we walked through the door drinks were on the table. The Chef was always present in the restaurant making sure everyone was happy with the food, and asking whether there was anything else we wanted – one night we asked for chips for the kids and the next night they were there, although to be fair they could have had chips every day at the beach bar. He also came round the pool and beach bar in the afternoon, just when it was getting a bit hot with slices of melon which was so refreshing and the hand-made chocolates he brought round after dinner was a nice touch.

We had no problems getting sunbeds every day, there were plenty to go round and you didn’t have to put your towels out to reserve them which makes a nice change !

There was lots to do throughout the day for both adults and kids (if you wanted to join in). I’m not normally a pool person but I was in there several times a day and even did aqua-aerobics several times – Omar made it fun even though I was useless at it and was a good way to get to know other guests. All the staff took time out to chat and find out a bit more about us and it really made us feel welcome. Ahmed, the Thomson/First Choice Rep was also excellent – every day he made an effort to come and find us round the pool and took time out to speak to all the English Families. The water park right next door to the hotel was great for the kids – so close they could go by themselves and only a 5 minute walk to the beach, the water was so clear you could see the fish on the reef and was great for snorkelling.

We’ve been on several All Inclusive holidays over the last couple of years, but this has to be the best, so relaxing and definitely one to return to.

This was our 2nd visit to the Dar el Medina & it exceeded all our expectations. Once again the staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was a memorable one. From the moment we arrived until the time we departed for the airport we were treated like royalty It is the little extras like the fruit in the afternoon & the chocolates in the evening which set this hotel apart from others. We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: A pool view is very nice
