We stayed at this excellent hotel from 27 November until 11 December 2012 & from our arrival until we departed we were treated like visiting royalty. The staff are so friendly & just want to make your experience in their hotel a memorable one.

The rooms are comfortable & kept spotless by the room men, Mahmoud looked after us & we were delighted with his towel creations.

The food was very good & there was always plenty to choose from. The desserts not only looked spectacular they tasted fantastic as well. The chocolates in the evening were a lovely touch. The beach bar was great at lunchtime & served the best cheese toastie on Friday's. This needs to be on the daily menu as they were great. The pool bar also served a great pizza.

We dived with Coraya Divers just a few minutes walk from the hotel. This was our 3rd time diving with them & have always found them to be very professional.

There are a few people we need to thank for making our stay one of the holidays we have had. Mina, Mohammed & Mr Youseff at reception. Hassan at the beach bar. The 2 Ahmeds & Mohammed in the dining room thank you for the teapot & the lovely cups of tea. Last but not forgotten Waleed who went beyond his duties to make our stay so pleasant.

We have been to other hotels in this area & we must say that the Dar El Medina is top of the list for us. The management should be very proud of all their staff who do everything to help us their guests have the best holiday possible. We thank you all.

As mentioned in other reviews the only down side to this trip was the journey on the plane. The leg room is horrible for such a long flight & Thomson do need to address this.

We stayed in this hotel from the 30th of december till the 7th of january!
And are still having a wonderfull time. The crew is very helpfull and want to make your stay as pleasant as possible. But it's evident that sometimes you have to tell the crew your wishes...
But in this hotel people really want to hear what you think and that's not something that's always so obvious in hotels in Egypt,
The hotel is cosy and clean and the food is very good.
We liked the servant Mahmoud and supervisor Sherif for all their help and support which made our stay very pleasant.

We recommend this hotel to people who want to relax and have a (very) relaxed time!
...and the weather is perfect in the winter!

Room Tip: The rooms starting with 7 are top floor and are nice! (roomnumbers 7xx)

Everything about the Sol Y Mar Dar El Medina is just great and we really did not want to come home. The late December weather was fine with daily temps around 23C to 25C and both the pool and Red Sea were warm and clear. The transfer from Marsa Alam airport took just ten minutes and we asked for and were given a room in a quiet location and it really was quiet so we slept great all week. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel is because it’s quite small which means you can get to know the other guests really easily and more importantly the staff can get to know you. You never have problems getting a table in the main restaurant or a sun bed by the pool. If you like the beach it’s a two minute walk away and there are loads of sun beds down there as well along with a nice walkway around Coraya Bay which was perfect for an after dinner stroll.

The room was fine with all the modcons and it was serviced everyday with clean towels but there are no toiletries provided so you must take your own soap etc and if you need a chemist the one just up the road is much cheaper than the one in the hotel. However best thing about this hotel is the staff who are to a man (we did not see any female staff at all!!) very friendly and absolutely brilliant. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them and they go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable as possible. They made a huge effort with the New Years Eve Gala Dinner which everyone we spoke to enjoyed. The food is fine but there is not a lot of variety but you can always find something which you like.

The only downside to our holiday was the Thomson flight from Manchester which although punctual was only just bearable. 5 hours out due to tailwinds but 6 hours back due to headwinds in a plane with virtually no leg room. This type of service maybe fine for a 2 hour jaunt down to Majorca but not a 6 hour intercontinental flight. Hopefully they will put their new much vaunted 787 Dreamliner on this route soon.

This was our seventh holiday in Egypt and after having stayed at Sofitels, Hyatts and Hiltons etc in a variety of other Red Sea resorts the Sol Y Mar Dar El Medina is by far best and we will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in 638. Perfect

This was our first visit to Egypt, and we chose this hotel because of the good reviews it had been given. I can honestly say that we were not dissapointed with our choice. The staff were all very
polite and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was first class, there
was always something on the buffet for everyone. It is a short walk to the beach but that is no problem. There is also a lovely footpath that runs all around the bay to the Coraya hotel,
on the other side of the bay. The path is 1600m long and is ideal for an after dinner stroll as it is well lit. We did go on an excursion with Tiger Marine and had no problems with them. So for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday and a place to unwind then this is the hotel to come to. However, if you want to party the away then this is not the place for you.

I had a great two week stay at the madina, loved the food and the efficiency of the staff.
Food in the hotel was excellent with plenty of choice.
from the moment we checked in the the minute we checked out we were treated very well.....highly recommended!

I would like to add that the first Choice Rep, Allan, was excellent, please ignore the rude comments made from SEEDO, to be frank I don't know what planet he's on as Allan fully explained to us how to save money, he recommended booking some trips via reception such as El Quesir and how to get to Port Ghalib cheaper than booking with First Choice. I would also like to add that Tiger Marine have a bad name, they sometimes don't even pick up their customers on time or refuse to give people refunds if they cancel their trips. I and my partner went on the Oceans snorkeling boat trip which was just amazing! English speaking crew, all inclusive, equipment included and we all seen the Turtles and Dyson the Dugong, take an underwater camera with you.
Allan was helpful and friendly to everyone and you can see that he enjoys his job, Thanks for getting us our seat requests for our flight home Allan.
