Stayed here for the first time in October 2013 and already looking forward to visiting again in 2014 (already booked!!!)
3 double bedrooms and family bathroom upstairs with bath no shower. Please note that bedroom 3 is reached by walking through bedroom 2. Shower is downstairs in a wet room
Cottage is heated by underfloor heating in downstairs rooms and by radiators in upstairs bedrooms. Aga in kitchen keeps that area extremely snug, as does woodburner in sitting room (logs available from Newport hardware store). Dog thought he was in heaven sleeping in kitchen with Aga on!
The place is tastefully done with rustic furniture and very comfortable bed in master bedroom (we did not use other 2 rooms which were twin bedded)
Garden is lovely if you have young children and / or dog... Very private and all fenced in so safe to let dog roam
Right next door to estuary with absolutely amazing sounds of Oyster catchers as you drift off to sleep...
Several local pubs to eat in all within 5-10 mins walk of cottage. Royal Oak serves amazing Indian Takeaways as well as really good pub grub (Sunday lunch notably good - best to book so not be disappointed). Golden Lion has a really nice restaurant serving nice but fairly expensive meals - nice for a treat. The Castle serves Wye Valley Butty Bach which although not local is scrummy - food here ok, we had steak and chips which was good.
There is a Chinese takeaway within a 5 minute walk of the cottage... Not tried it. There is also a local Spar shop again around 5 min walk which pretty much has everything!
If you walk up hill towards and then past left hand side of church you will come accross a very small local bakery - only open short times in morning but worth walking up there for breakfast bread!
There is also a cafe opposite the Spar shop that serves full English breakfast
Local butchers sells all manner of things - pies, eggs, pickles, fresh vegetables as well as the obvious meat
Loads of walking without need to get in car. Go north up coast path and end up in Moylegrove ( around 7 miles, some very steep bits on coast path) where you can catch the Poppit Rocket bus back - timetables available from local tourist information which is located 3 minute walk from cottage. Go south down coast path towards Dinas Head where you can have tea and lovely cake at the Sailors Arms in Pwllgwaelod - return walk around 7 miles. If you want a 30 minute local meander you can do so by turning left out of cottage and then left down estuary path to The Parrog where there is another cafe / restaurant that serves food throughout the day but not evening.
There are also several local entrepreneurs now home making lasagnes etc and will deliver - details available locally in cottage or tourist info
Cottage has wifi and Sky TV - nice picture quality Sony flat screen.
I can't recommend this place enough, it is one in a million. Owner also has another property within Newport around 5 mins walk from this one
We will be visiting this place most years moving forward... A real home from home feeling in an idyllic setting
We have stayed here twice in the last few years. The cottage is in a fantastic location, right on the coastal path. Huge enclosed garden and paddock (completely fenced and dog proof). Beautifully renovated cottage with large kitchen with an AGA which is great. Comfortable sitting room. Good outside space for sitting and eating (a sun shade for the table would be nice!) The cottage is in need of a bit of tlc. It is a 5* after all! We will be going back as we love the area nearly as much as our dog!
