The old place has been done up and is now very swish. It's very welcoming, with friendly and helpful staff, the ambience is great, and the food very good indeed. It is our new favourite for lunch and snacks.

On holiday in Newport. Came across this cafe by chance. What a find. Outstanding food. Have been back again and again for takeouts of cake, quiche, pate and much more. Staff exceptionally friendly and very stylish yet comfortable decor. An absolute winner.

Although fully booked the cheery, delightful owner, sensing our disappointment, managed to find us an early slot the following evening. This was for 'Tapas and Tunes' on a Thursday. Family members played guitar and although alt-country it nonetheless fitted with the Spanish vibe of this restaurant. The menu is simple and though not tapas, in the sense of lots of small plates, the platters have a strong Iberian influence. We had Valencia almonds to nibble with our Welsh cider ( OK, not strictly Spanish but we Celts are at least dark haired) while we waited for main courses of: spinach and mushroom tortilla served with mustard and honey aioli and a good dressed salad; chorizo and chickpea stew; and patatas bravas. It is so easy to get this unfussy food wrong but Blas does it very well and its popularity shows in the busy room full of young families creating a great vibe. Lovely place and a joyful experience.

At last a "side salad" that was interesting, fresh and plentiful. Service that was friendly and pleasant - smiley faces. Real customer service...noticing when we needed extra butter, getting us extra bread without shoving an extra charge on the bill. Good food. They understand their customers here. Fair prices for quality food - quite right too. Keep doing whatever you are doing right and we will keep coming back. Well done
