My husband and I went here for our honey moon and absolutely loved the isolation, peace, serenity, cleanliness, and politeness of the resort and people who all worked there. They were all very respectful and made our stay extremely enjoyable and stress-free! The manager was also very professional and ensured that all of her guests were satisfied and safe on the island. There was no soliciting which was perfect and ideal, as many islands have this issue. They had just the right amount of tours available - diving, snorkeling, kayaking, bird watching, picnics, and bike rentals. I would not stay on this island more than 2-3 days if you want more live action, activities, shopping, and people.

CONS: food selection is very limited and after 2-3 days, you are tired of eating the same items; breakfast food items are not the best and very expensive ($35 USD each person). Lunch and dinner is better.

Food selection/options is the only complaint I have, however given all the other great things this resort has to offer, We will DEFINITELY BE BACK!! Thank you all for such a wonderful time!

Room Tip: If you go in the spring-summer, choose the bungalow with A/C. We chose one without not knowing ther...

Thank you for your kind message. It is always pleasant to read that our guests enjoyed to stay with us.
We hope you will visit us again in a near future, as you do not live that "far" from Polynesia.

This was our first stop on a 2 week 20th anniversary trip and we absolutely LOVED it. We loved the over-water bungalow and the resort was well organized with good service. It was such a nice break from our normal busy lives. The island was quite and very slow paced. We really enjoyed taking a kayak to our own island and snorkeling/swimming for the day. The diving was amazing and a highlight of the trip. We also loved sitting on the balcony and just watching the sun set while enjoying a bottle of wine. I highly recommend Tikehau as an island to visit and the Pearl Beach Resort was absolutely amazing.
We also loved working with Custom Tahiti travel, who help organize the trip for us. It was great working with such knowledgeable experts. Their recommendations were spot on and they set up a truly memorable trip for us!!!!

Room Tip: I would select the overwater bungalow that faces the sunset. It was really a very private setting w...

Superficially this is wonderful - incredible bungalows over the water on a beautiful island but there is still something missing - the guests still have to work for the best result and this diminishes the result and benefits.
We had different expectations of the weather ( as did many other guests) and were surprised by the extreme winds, lower temperatures and cool water.
As a result, water activities were restricted and there didn't seem to be many options available.
Instead of encouraging guests to undertake activities such as bird watching on the nearby bird island, there was an assumption that we all knew what to do - for most of us though, it was our first visit and we were looking for guidance.
The fish feeding was wonderful but you needed to be on the south side and have a premium overwater bungalow so you could step straight out from your room into the water - normal rooms didn't have the same steps and facilities.
The rooms themselves are quite dark and could do with more lighting.
It also took a few days to understand the food quality - some dishes were expensive and over-cooked , meat dishes had small portions - but some dishes like the prawns and seafood were better done.
Many guests though were there for special occasions whether it be honeymoons, anniversaries and birthdays and the resort and staff excel at these occasions.

Ia orana RonWamber,

Thank you for your message and for sharing your experience in Tikehau.
I've been managing this property for more than 2 years now, and it is true that, especially this year, the winds were higher this year than usual during this period. But it is true also that usually, the lagoon water is kind of "hot" and the weather temperature as well (average of 30° C all year long)
I'm sorry you did not like your meals at the restaurant and that your fish was overcooked. Did you talk with the Maître d'Hôtel about this ? It would have been a pleasure to prepare another fish, cooked as you wish.
I really hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in our resort

Best regards

This was our 2nd trip to FP and thus far we have stayed at Le Tahaa, St Regis Bora Bora and Rangiroa Hotel Kia Ora. This property is located on one of the most beautiful beaches and waters that we have ever seen. Pink salad, super clear water and amazing fish life. Food was very good too (although at one lunch it took them one hour to prepare our Pizza but other than that service & food was always delivered in very timely fashion). All the staff at the restaurants were extremely hard working and delivered service in very timely fashion. We got the feeling that this hotel is short on staff at meal times. Some of the staff were almost running to service everyone which we felt bad about. Nevertheless they delivered excellent service with always a pleasant smile. Nice hard woking people indeed.

The way this hotel is built, despite being on one of the most gorgeous and breathtaking beaches in the world, their pool and restaurant sit back and don't take advantage of the view. There are several big trees planted in front of the pool. This is a pity as their view is absolutely breathtaking and should be taken advantage off at the pool/bar/restaurant area as much as possible.

Room service and cleaning people here were extremely pleasant and hardworking similar to the restaurant staff. Rooms looked spotless and were beautiful. We had an overwater suite and were impressed upon checking in with how beautiful and clean our room was. However unfortunately our room was infested with cockroaches. We saw at least 7 of them at different times (juicy big flying cockroaches). They moved us to a beach villa for the first night and then sprayed our room (which caused later on to see more dead bugs around the bungalow). I have taken several pictures of the cockroaches but decided not to post them as it takes away from the beauty of the island when they're associated with the trip. Unfortunately all other overwater suites were taken so we could only move into another regular bungalow which we decided not to (as we feared that other bungalows would be suffering the same and we preferred to stay in our unit which seemed safer after it was sprayed). We ended up staying at this property for 3 nights but my allergies were really acting up due to the insect spray odor in the room which caused a 2nd night of no sleep. Management was quick to respond, very friendly and apologetic and tried to address the issue as quickly as they could. They have promised to refund us for one night but it has not happened yet. We really wish that they would treat their grounds so that such issues do not take place to begin with.

Room Tip: I think the rooms were clean but the area itself was infested with cockroaches. They need to treat...

Dear MK,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings about your last stay in Tikehau.
We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us... and so sorry (again) for the "small animals unexpected experience". As I told you when we met, as strange as it can be, these animals live in the "pandanus" (natural material in which our bungalows are made). And even if the bungalows are treated, pandanus remains their natural "home".
Regarding the refund of 1 night, the hotel did its part right after your departure (dated 1st June on the invoice), and I checked again yesterday with your travel agency to help. I understand your point, and for what they told me (again, 5 minutes ago), you should be credited shortly,
All the staff and I really hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back again in Tikehau, in the middle of this incredibile preserved nature.
Warm regards from our Paradise,

The Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort is located in the Toamotu Atolls, on the atoll of Tikehau, about a 1 hour flight from Papeete. Once you arrive on the atoll, you will be greeted by the hotel staff at the airport. They will transport you on a minivan to the pier where a speedboat will transfer you to the resort, located on a motu about 15 minutes away. Please note that this is not a free service, so when you book your stay, if you see it is not included, expect to see it on the hotel bill upon check out. At this price point, this is an area where we felt the hotel should just include it or already reflect it in their pricing.

If you are looking to escape from it all, then this is the place to be. Total peace and quiet. Because there is no light pollution, at night you will see why the Milky Way got its name. Also, the snorkeling right below the bungalows on the south side of the resort is amazing! You will see large schools of fish, small black tip sharks, and even octopus that make their home amongst the corals.

The bungalows are very large and comfortable. We stayed in an overwater bungalow on the south side of the motu. In our opinion, these are the best situated, as they get the ocean breezes. When walking around the motu we realized that the land bungalows and those on the north can get quite hot as not much of a breeze circulates through there.

The presentation of the food on the dinner menus was nice, but the flavor was somewhat lacking. However, the mango ice cream appears to be homemade and was heavenly.

The staff was very polite and helpful, and if you’re a diver, there is a dive shop located on-site. By the way, the diving in Tikehau was excellent and the best we experienced throughout all of French Polynesia. Unlike the bleached reefs found in the Society Islands, these reefs are very healthy.

Room Tip: Overwater bungalows on the south side of the motu get more of the strong ocean breezes.

We stayed at both the Pearl Beach Bora Bora and Tikehau. While Bora Bora was a bit more elegant and larger, and we loved both places, Tikehau was very special because the resort is small and there is basically nothing else around you. The staff was lovely and accommodating. The spa was under reconstruction and therefore closed, which was a little disappointing since we made our reservations directly through Pearl Beach (SPM Managment) and they did not mention anything about that. The premium over-water bungalows are totally awesome, and compared to Hawaii, seem very reasonably priced. We went during the "off-season" in April, and the accommodations were 40% off. We could see no reason why April was the "off season" - it seemed to do more with vacation schedules than the weather. It rained a little most every day, and we had one day that was a full on stormy day, but we had already had so much sun we were fine with a break from the intense sun. We were able to kayak to our own private island with little effort, a big plus. You cannot do that in Bora Bora. If sex on the beach is important to you, go to Tikehau.

We did scuba diving as well. The difference between Bora Bora and Tikehau is that the marine life is far more available and abundant at Tikehau, so if it is the water and marine life that is of primary interest to you, Tikehau is the spot. We were snorkeling with sharks every day, small reef sharks - very cool, not scary. We have been to a lot of warm water coral reef places, but nothing nearly as amazing as this.

The open air restaurant was fine, and the restaurant staff very nice, but the food is just not that great, especially considering the high prices. It seems this is probably true everywhere in Tahiti. It is surprising that the french influence has not resulted in better food. However, the croissants were wonderful, and other than eating too many of those, we didn't gain any weight on a 11 day stay, so that is the upside to weak food!

Tikehau is the kind of place you come to and don't leave - there is hardly anything else there. There is a small village a short boat ride away, but there is not much in the village. It is an incredibly romantic spot. We did see a few famillies with kids, but by far most guests were couples, of all ages.

We cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: Premium over-water bungalows are the best and worth the extra money. #45 is the most private.

Dear Jonnymar,

It nice to read that you enjoyed your stay with us.
Indeed, because of the construction of our new Family Villa (newly opened in July 2013), we had to move the Spa to another bungalow for some weeks, but it was still open. If you enjoyed your diving (incredible, indeed, in Tikehau), I'm sorry you were not able to enjoy our "Fare Massages" where it is usually located at the time of your stay. I'm sorry also that you did not enjoy your food that much. It can be a real challenge sometimes in our remote location, but we always try (at least !) to improve ourselves, that's why your message is really important to us.
Thank you again for your message.

Best regards

We stayed here 3 nights and loved. This was our favorite resort and location in French Polynesia, I highly recommend it.

The resort is smaller than most and there's not many other resorts around. It's on a small motu with a good beach, but even better, there are little motu's on either side you can walk/swim/kayak to that have long stretches of orange/pink sandy beaches that you can usually end up walking all by yourself. There's quite good snorkeling right off the overwater bungalows, lots of wildlife, and good swimming. We went to the "private motu" one day just the two of us and had the whole little island to ourselves. That was amazing you could relax and swim wherever and however you wanted! There were several depths of water with a sandy bottom to walk and swim and enjoy. It was gorgeous.

We got an upgrade from a regular overwater bungalow to one of the overwater suites. If we went back, I'd probably book the overwater bungalow again but then pay to upgrade to a suite if it was available and we didn't get a free upgrade. The suites are amazing with just a few of them (8 I think) on a walkway out to the inner lagoon. There are tons of coral and fish right underneath. Lots of space and comfy lounging area. Very nice bathroom including tub and shower. Very comfy bed. Off the back is the sun deck area with a privacy wall on one side and the bungalow to the other. Given that, unless there's a boat or kayakers right off your bungalow, it's quite private and you can sunbath as you please. There were two sun loungers, an end table, a covered lunch table with a bench and two chairs, and then a lower platform with a shower and ladder to get in/out of the water. All AWESOME.

The restaurant was good and more reasonably priced than Bora Bora and Moorea, but the selection is a good deal smaller as you're farther out into the middle of nowhere.

Overall service was great.

If we ever go back to French Polynesia, we're definitely coming back here and likely booking for more like 5-7 days instead of 3-4!

Room Tip: If you get an overwater bungalow, request one with a platform to the water, they didn't all have...

Ia Orana Twisted C,

Kindly forgive me for the late answer to your message. Months after, it is still nice to read you enjoyed your stay with us, even if we keep on trying to improve ourselves.
As you know, I'm used to say to my (several) repeat guests that, leaving Tikehau for the 1st time, the next time they will be like a part of the "family".
We are all looking forward to welcoming you back in our Paradise.
