“Magical Honeymoon Bliss w Unsurpassed Service”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

We just returned from a magical 10 day stay at the Four Seasons Bora Bora. We have stayed in 5 star hotels all around the world (Maldives, St Barths, St Tropez, London, Paris, Barcelona, Bali, Napa, Aspen, NYC, LA/Malibu, Capetown, etc etc) and this is now a property ranked in our top 3 in the world. I won't repeat the usual accolades as everyone knows how amazing the hotel is, and how stunning the island of Bora Bora is. Rather, we will list special things we really liked:

1. The welcome champagne/fruit is one of the most special gifts we have seen.
2. Marine lagoon: this is really a special place - not only should you do the tour w the marine biologist (he is truly personable and a special person to chat to), but the actual beach and area there is very pretty and relaxed. My husband, a big swimmer, did a morning 800m swim up and down the lagoon paths which make for, what he describes, as one of the most unique open water swims he has done.
3. Room service: whilst ppl may eschew room service, it is actually really nice to order room service for 1-2 dinners and have them setup outside on the balcony under the stars. The food is the same quality as the restaurants, and after 3-4 days of that scene, it is nice to feel like you have a private little cabin and food overlooking the water (and mountain).
4. Activities: super plug and play - very easy to line everything up the first day you arrive. We did the jetski, pure snorkelling, heli tour (a must!), and marine biology tour. The pure snorkelling trip was definitely one of the most active snorkelling tours we have ever done. At the start of the tour the guide Fabien asked whether we had any plans for after the tour. We all said no, and he said GREAT - so we can take our time and see what happens (no clock watching here). As it happens, after we did the first stop on the agenda (snorkelling in a spot renowned for manta and sting rays - amazing to see them glide below you!) Fabien got a tip off from a friend that whales had been spotted in the ocean just beyond the island. So we detoured to go find the whales! It was the most amazing sight ever - a mother whale swimming, jumping and diving with her baby. My husband even got to swim with the whales. After further stops to a spot known for its coral, and then at another known for the marine life, we returned to the resort almost 2 hours over schedule, having had the most fantastic experience. Truly do not miss this tour.
5. Service: simply unsurpassed - literally everyone nice, professional, friendly, no request unfulfilled. We have travelled in many islands and usually there is a bit of "island time" to service even in the 5 star spots - not here. It is right on the money all the time.
6. Bfast: amazing bfast included, and, for those health nuts out there, they have a cold press DIY juicer with spinach, cucumbers, celery, carrots, ginger, fruits, etc. Anyone who has ever done a juice cleanse, or likes vegetable based pressed juices, can juice to their hearts content!

Things we did not like:
- food can get a bit repetitive if you are there more than say 5 days. So just be aware and set expectations.
- once you are there, at night, it is a pain to go to the main island. again, not a big deal, but mentally prepare.

overall really one of the most stunning places on earth and whilst it is pricey, splurge and do it.

After enjoying a fantastic stay at the Intercontinental in Moorea as the first part of our honeymoon, we weren't sure if the Four Seasons in Bora Bora would actually live up to all the hype on TripAdvisor and to all the amazing pictures we had spent months salivating over.

Within minutes of landing at Bora Bora airport it was clear that we had no idea how good this place was going to be. We were collected by a beautiful wooden boat, given scented wet face towels and ice cold water... and the excellent service continued from then onwards for the rest of our stay.

Unlike other resorts the rooms are traditional on the outside but like modern luxury apartments on the inside. The resort grounds are amazing and the two highlights for us were the pool-side bar with cabanas and an amazing lunch menu (I can recommend the prawn quesadillas and wagyu beef burger) and also the in-resort lagoon. When you first arrive it is clear that there is no aquatic life beneath the over-water villas as you may expect in the Maldives, etc, however this doesn't matter once you see the perfect blue lagoon with white sandy beach which at its busiest time had six people on it.

Across from the pool bar is a tiny romantic motu which you can walk, swim or paddle board to if you wish and of course bearing over the whole resort is the mountain on Bora Bora mainland.

The resort is more beautiful than the pictures suggest and the water is more blue than the pictures suggest - but what makes the difference here is the employees who make you feel so welcome, comfortable and who are always willing to put themselves out to look after you.

As a must you should book on the Reef Discovery trip with Fabien (see my other review on this).

We had a perfect honeymoon and don't see how any other trip will better this.

If you had to pick anything to improve, there is a difference in the level of service displayed by the restaurant and bar staff versus the room service staff, but as long as you are clear with them on when you don't want them to come to the room and what you want from the room service team there shouldn't be a problem. The breakfast staff are very helpful with extra tea bags (for all you Brits!) and extra cake, much easier than dealing with room service.

Room Tip: I believe you will enjoy more privacy (if that's important to you) on your deck if you face the...

Out travel agent at Custom Tahiti travel recommended we go Moorea to Bora bora not the other way around. If I'd only ever been to Moorea I would tell you it's the most beautiful place on earth...but Bora Bora...wow. I was speechless upon arrival. The water, the lush green island, the sun, the palm trees ...did I mention the water? Everything about the FSBB was first class and 5 star. Clean, polite staff, amenities, water sports, privacy, food food, beautiful location. It was so great.

If I had to pick a negative. It's a big resort and its a long walk from the OWB to the main part of the resort...although the one night we got a little tipsy at the Sunset bar and started to wobble home a golf cart magically appeared to take us back...and did I mention the driver drove with his legs and plate guitar and sang while he drove? If I find a place nicer in the World I will be surprised.

This was our final stop on our 3 island getaway to celebrate our 27th anniversary in French Polynesia. On our boat ride to the resort we were awestruck by the most amazing blue water we have ever seen. This was our first stay at a Four Season's resort and the service was top-notch. There was a delay in check-in due to our requested location not being available. We had lunch, then I went for a manicure appointment. When I went to pay I was told the service was complimentary. The management team offered alternate accommodations to ensure we were happy, but we decided to stay with our room assignment on the farther pontoon. We were in bungalow 320 which had mountain views as well as some privacy because of the expanse of water between us and the other pontoon. Upon entering our room, the largest and most luxurious of the three resorts we stayed at, we were welcomed with a note from the hotel, fresh fruit with mango coulis and a split of champagne. We opted for room service that evening, and the table on our deck was set with a tablecloth and fresh flowers. I ordered grilled mahi mahi with pineapple-coconut rice in a creamy vanilla sauce with flakes of vanilla bean, delicious! For dessert we shared the lime cheesecake with a passion fruit macaron.

Shortly before our arrival to the Four Seasons, I called desperate to arrange a canoe breakfast and romantic beach dinner that was cancelled at another resort. I spoke to Manolia, who worked magic to arrange both on short notice, another example of the excellent service we experienced here. The canoe breakfast was special, watching the canoe paddle to your bungalow, and I was greeted with a flower lei headpiece that I wore for the rest of the day. The romantic beach dinner was just that, romantic and memorable. We were picked up by a golf cart and whisked to the beach while being serenaded on the ride. We arrived and were led to our beautifully set table adorned with flowers with a beautiful view of tiki torches, Mt. Otemanu and the sunset while we sipped champagne and enjoyed an amazing meal.

We enjoyed the more private beach by the lagoon and enjoyed relaxing and snorkeling there. There were so many fish, our favorite was a little yellow puffer fish that the marine biologist said had just arrived a couple of months ago. Bring bread from breakfast and you will be swarmed by fish eating out of your hand. One day, we didn't want to leave our chairs to go to lunch, so we asked at the desk if we could have food delivered there. No problem, we ordered lunch and it was brought to us.

We had breakfast room service issues one day and when we returned to our bungalow we had an apology note with hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of muscat. The special touches continued, with a chocolate dessert surprise for our anniversary and treats on our last evening.

The only disappointment we experienced during our stay was with the service at the Polynesian show. You are seated around a large table with several other guests. Food is delivered and served family style, but due to some people at our table taking large portions, some of the dishes were empty by the time they got around to our side of the table. It took me awhile to flag someone down and bring it to their attention so the rest of us could get our food. If one server was assigned to stay at each table, the experience would go more smoothly. The show itself was great.

One evening we took the boat to Vaitape and had dinner at Villa Mahana. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was amazing. I loved my entree of king rock lobster and prawns in a risotto with champagne cream sauce. My husband ordered the menu exotique and his meal was great as well. Everyone in our van back to the boat was raving about their meals. There are only eight tables so book your reservation far in advance.

Our stay at the Four Seasons was everything we had hoped for and more. We enjoyed pure relaxation at this phenomenal resort.

Room Tip: We were on the farthest pontoon and walked to everything rather than take advantage of the golf cart...

Well what can I say that hasn't been said already?! My wife and I honeymooned here in September for a week as part of our honeymoon tour of French Polynesia and the USA. This was the part of our honeymoon that we were both looking forward to the most. From the minute we arrived at Bora Bora airport the special treatment from the FS staff began, our luggage was taken from us, we were given traditional necklaces and ushered to the FS boat. This boat was wonderful, a beautiful, elegant design and the 15 minute trip was a delight, we were given bottled water and cold, damp cloths to cool down.

Check in was so unique, driven to our overwater bungalow by our own staff member and checked in to our room, it was the first time we had experienced anything like this. We had one of the bungalows at the very end, it was huge, very comfortable and had stunning views. We felt like we were in heaven, first thing we did when the FS lady left was jump off our balcony into the wonderfully blue sea! A point to notice is that the resort offers a service to drop you off and collect you from your bungalow as it can take up to 10 minutes to walk to the main part of the resort when you have a bungalow at the very end of the row.

Every bit of the resort is stunning, one day I walked around with a camera and I took loads of photos because everything I looked at was so pretty I felt it deserved to be captured!

I could ramble on for hours and hours about the place and how great it was, we had a slight issue after 3 days with our room and the manager on duty (João, if I remember correctly) the morning of our complaint couldn't have been any more helpful or professional. We were booked in for a jet ski tour that day which he looked after for us and we were upgraded to a private beach villa as a way of an apology from the resort.

WOW. We thought the over water bungalow was special, this villa was in another league. It had it's own garden, pool, deck area for sunbathing and eating out, Jacuzzi and private beach. The villa had 6 showers! 6 showers!! We were lost in there for 4 days and had an amazing time.

The attention to detail from the staff at the resort deserves a special mention, they are phenomenal. They are so helpful and caring, I honestly believe I could have asked anything of them and they would have gone out of their way and tried their hardest to make it a reality. The food is great as well, the morning buffet was my favourite, a huge range of different food to try and a tasty different freshly made juice each morning. Lunch and dinner were of equal quality and tastiness. My only gripe in relation to food is that the resort could do with more then the 3 restaurants they currently offer but I understand they plan on building more in the future.

So in a nutshell this resort is just simply outstanding, I just couldn't say anything negative about the place as everything and everyone myself and my wife experienced for the week we stayed was exceptional and we had a heavy heart the day we had to leave but we will be back at some stage in the future! One of the top resorts in the world in my opinion!

PS TOP TIP - The minute you arrive book a tour of the resorts private lagoon with their own marine biologist, Oliver, I think his name was. This tour is very interesting and you learn things like how a lagoon forms and all the different fish that are in the lagoon. It's a hugely popular tour and there can be a waiting list of up to a week some times for the tour so this is why I recommend you book the moment you arrive or even a few days before you arrive at the resort.

Room Tip: Go for an overwater bungalow as far out into the lagoon as you can afford as the water is deeper the...

I sincerely believe that this hotel is by definition one of the best in the world.
