InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa

The ICH Thalasso Bora Bora was fantastic. From the pick up at the dock at the Bora Bora airport which is on an motu (barrier reef island) to the time we left ~ first class all the way. All rooms are over water villas and we had a diamond class room looking out over lagoon and Mt. Otamano. All staff were extraordinarily friendly and welcoming from front desk to the pool guys (who could also weave you a hat, show you how to open a coconut with a sharp stick or feed a sting ray or teach you how to tie a pareo (traditional island style dress) to the restaurant staff to the spa staff. Special thanks to Irena in the boutique for going out of her way and picking some local fruit for my wife and having it delivered to our room. Hotel facilities we immaculate as befits their location in paradise. The villa we stayed in was also first class and the view - well I'll probably never forget the view from the bedroom, the swim deck of our villa - pretty much everywhere you look. Food was good although if you do not opt for half or full board could get very expensive as they have to pretty much fly everything in. Spa facilities were great and staff well trained. Overall not the easiest or least expensive spot to visit but worth every penny!

Room Tip: Basic rooms are Sapphire. Better rooms are Diamond best rooms are Diamond with lagoon and mountain v...

My husband and I spent one night here while on a Paul Gauguin cruise. The ship had a romantic package which included the owb with a romantic dinner and breakfast to your bungalow brought to us in a canoe. I can't describe how beautiful this place is, pictures can't just express the beauty and peaceful surroundings.

5 stars do not come close to rating this resort. We wish we could give them many many more. Despite what reviewers of the other 5 star properties say, the IC Thalasso occupies the best position in the lagoon with direct views of the mesmerizing and ever changing Mount Otemano and the water is clear, sparkling and even with the Bora Bora winds, it does not get rough or wavy. Guests from other resorts said the same when we spoke to them.

ARRIVAL AND CHECKIN
We were met at the airport by friendly staff who quickly gave us cool water, a lovely lei and directed to collect our luggage and wait to be directed to our boat. The boat staff identify you by the resort tags on your bags so there is no stress or drama. We were ushered aboard and on our way to the resort within 10 minutes of arriving. We were greeted by a man blowing a conch shell and very quickly welcomed and shown to a buggy, We were taken on a thorough tour of the resort b a terrific young man who clearly loved his job and workplace. We were returned to the checkin building where we sat at a table overlooking the lagoon, given iced tea and a cool towel to refresh ourselves. Checkin was professional and highly efficient. He explained everything about our package and was very thorough. We were then taken to our villa( 209) where our luggage was waiting.

VILLA
Wow wow and more wow. The villas are beautifully appointed and huge. The bed was a super king and I used the IC pillow menu and got the perfect pillow the first time I asked for it. We slept so very well and the shower was awesome. We didn't want to get out once we got in. The toiletries are from the Spa and there was always plenty in our villa. We didn't actually use the bath but it was perfect for drying our wet gear following a day of diving and snorkeling, Beach towels are also provided so you don't have to use your bath towels when swimming of your deck, which we did plenty of. The AC was perfect and we honestly have no complaints at all with the Villa. We loved it and can't wait to go back to it. The water here was deep enough to dive off although there were signs warning against it. The fresh water shower on the deck came in handy to not only wash ourselves but also our gear so we didn't have to carry it through the villa.

RESORT
Was immaculate at all times. It is pristine, very well maintained and had everything you could ever need. We found a tennis court and they also have outdoor table tennis and plenty of free non motorized activities. Equipment was never a problem, there was plenty as the resort only has 50 villas so it never feels full or busy. Perfect in every way, we cannot fault it and the effort that goes into maintaining it is evident everywhere. The maintenance team should be commended. We didn't use the pool because we enjoyed swimming in the lagoon but the missing tiles didn't bother anyone and it was very popular.

Some reviewers have commented about the rocks and coral in the shallows of the beach but it was not a problem for anyone we spoke to. IC Thalasso is and eco style resort and as such they respect the environment. Bora Bora is renowned for its natural beauty and as such, they leave things alone where they can. I wore reef shoes at times but even when I didn't, I didn't have a problem with the beach. It is spectacular and has been there far longer than we've been visiting it.

ACTIVITIES
There is plenty to do or nothing to do depending on how you feel. We made use of just about everything the resort and Island had to offer and had heaps of fun. The staff are helpful and give you thorough instruction about safety etc so no need to worry about heading off on a SUP or kayak for a few hours. Snorkelling under the chapel is best but we also enjoyed exploring the beach area and our deeper past the resort. the perfect location allows for this and the shuttle to the other IC allows you to participate in many activities without having to worry about transport. The shuttle is efficient and safe and a lovely ride to soak in the ever-changing lagoon and island views. The Concierge team are so helpful and friendly and will arrange just about anything for you. Then even drove me to the villa to collect a voucher at the last moment for one of our activities and got me back to the dock in time. One thing we did not like is the amount of surcharge they add to off-resort activity bookings. Where you can do this yourself and you will safe a small fortune. That said, the team is just fantastic.

FOOD
Being in the tropics it is hot so you don't need as much food as you might think you will. We did take some snacks from Tahiti but just some crackers and dried apricots which were plenty for our 5 day stay. Breakfast was the most incredible array of just about everything you can imagine. The food is plentiful, beautifully presented, fresh and simply superb. The chef sure can make an omelette and the fresh baked breads and pastries were divine!! Congrats on a breakfast spread that had us so stuffed until dinner time we didn't need lunch once. We ate at Reef and Sands and preferred the more informal style of Sands as at the end of a long hot day spent in the water we couldn't be bothered dressing for dinner. Given the limitations due to location and what can be grown in BB, the food was fantastic. I had sorbet every night for dessert and miss it soooo much. The staff called us Mr & Mrs Sherbert. Service was always quick, friendly and professional in spite of some rude guests with unreasonable demands.

Service at the beach was equally good and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for our drinks to be delivered.

Happy hour was lively yet chill which absolutely fantastic local musicians and vocalists. They were seriously good and really added to the high end yet chilled out vibe that we had craved.

SPA
My husband gave me a half day treat at the Spa and it was the greatest spa experience of my life. The facilities really are world class and they don't allow more than a certain number of guests in at a time so you don't have to wait for anything at all. The therapist (Maime??) was unbelievably good and at the end of my massage I couldn't even remember that I had legs, let alone walk. I really did go to that serene chill place we all strive for when we have a treatment. Truly incredible and I recommend anyone who is going to IC Thalasso book ahead so you can be sure to enjoy the Spa, it was one of the high points of my entire trip to FP. Cannot recommend highly enough.

and finally the STAFF
Well what can we say, they are truly outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble, nothing was forgotten or delayed and I say to IC management that your team here make this resort what it is. We observed staff dealing with obnoxious and rude guests with such grace and professionalism that it was astounding at times. Some people think the high prices entitle them to behave poorly and these wonderful people, many of whom are locals sharing their beautiful home with us, are such a credit to the IC brand and we cannot find the words to express our thanks to them for making our stay so good. The team is very professional, efficient and hard working yet they managed to make us feel as though we'd been there before and they were happy to welcome us back. I am gushing but this team put up with rude and demanding guests to their island in such a clever and warm way we just cannot find the words to describe them. Please IC management, commend your staff for a job so well done.

OVERALL
I hope anyone reading this is lucky enough to travel to the un-equaled FP islands. Bora Bora is truly paradise on earth and we have been forever changed from our experience there. We have already started saving to go back and have been depressed since we left. If you do go, you must stay at IC Thalasso, it will be an experience you will never forget and it really did make our BB holiday, it is astonishingly beautiful, the resort really is incredible and while it is clearly 5+stars it is low-key, quiet, relaxing and chill. We will not even consider staying anywhere else for our next trip which will be twice as long as the last!!!

Get a meal plan, at least half board. It will save you loads of money and the resort is magnificent at night so we didn't even consider leaving to eat elsewhere.

We stayed on two islands in Tahiti for our honeymoon, Moorea and Bora Bora and stayed at InterContinentals on both. The InterContinental Thalasso bungalows were definitely more luxurious than the overwater bungalows on Moorea. The staff was incredibly attentive and helpful.

While on Bora Bora, we aslo visited the InterContinental Le Moana, which was nice, but not as luxurious as the Thalasso.

The vast majority of people staying here were couples, many of whom were on their honeymoon but also many who were not. There were also a few families who stayed here but it isn't somewhere I would recommend for families. Definitely felt more like a place for couples.

It was our 25th wedding anniversary so we decided to go all-out! We did not regret it for a minute of our 11 day, ten night stay. I had been researching this trip for about two years. I read countless TripAdvisor reviews as well as many other comments about the various islands from just about every travel magazine there is. After having selected Bora Bora as the island (as opposed to others or touring lots of islands for a few days each, we chose (through Costco) a Diamond Overwater Bungalow (#233) which included breakfast and dinner (QUITE THE SAVINGS, as the island is pricey) in the package. We were fortunate to check in early as we had an overnight flight. The room was AMAZING! Very large, with a view directly out to the mountain. The resort knew it was our anniversary. The first day a complimentary bottle of champagne appeared with a lovely note from the manager. As well, we were sent a fruit tray and a french dessert tray. The food was FABULOUS. So good, in fact, that we decided not to go off the resort for any meal. The breakfast buffet was delicious (and I don't typically like buffets) as was the French and Japanese buffets on Mondays/Wednesdays nights. The International buffet on Friday was 'good', but nothing compared to the others. Those nights had a Polynesian show which was really nice. Service was EXCELLENT. Everyone at the resort, from the front desk staff, to the concierge desk, to the many waiters and the people who cleaned our room. Everyone was super friendly. The property itself was kept immaculate and it was lovely to get to walk from our room each morning and night. Each day though we walked over to see the sting ray feeding at the beach. We mostly sunned ourselves off of our own deck as opposed to sunning at the resort's beach. We preferred listening to our own music through an ipod Bose system, as well as mixing our own drinks. We did this by going into town and purchasing a 3-pack of local Tahitian rum (yum) with some local fruit juices. We arranged the store trip through the hotel (free water boat, then paid for a $30 USD 15 min. bus ride). Note: You need your passport to exchange USD. There were two markets. Fortunately, one took USD. For about $100, we bought the booze/juice, a loaf of french bread and a two pack of Brie cheese (for snacks). Since drinks at the resort were pricey (about $25 USD each), we usually only drank those during a 2 for 1 happy hour each evening from 5-6 p.m.. Most nights they had great live music during this time. We were given gift certificates to use the spa and spent one whole day there, enjoying the facilities. It was very nice. We brought our own snorkeling gear and used it in the lovely lagoon by the bridal chapel. We saw tons of beautiful fish both in the lagoon and in the bay. The concierge recommended a snorkel trip (Pure Snorkeling - Reynald) for the day and we booked it through them. What a great day! We had an evening flight and made use of a 'day room' since we couldn't get a late check-out as another guest was arriving in our room.

All in all, it was the PERFECT trip, made that way because of the resort. We both HIGHLY RECOMMEND the resort.

Room Tip: 233 was very private and looked right out at the mountain. It is a Diamond suite

We enjoyed ourselves at Moorea but after just 1 day here we felt we were wasting our time at the other islands. That's how good it is!

Phenomenal service, outstanding bungalows and the most friendly and helpful staff (comments to the pool boy and receptionist who checked us out, great service guys!). I think I even mentioned I wish my apartment looked as nice as the bungalows. Great set-up and decor.

Whether stingray feeding or hat making there's something to do every day. And they know how to make a cocktail!

Bora-Bora is a once in a lifetime thing but this place will make you wanna go back and counting down the days till I do.

BEST HOTEL EVER! ...and that's coming from a nit-picker.

our stay at the intercontinental thalasso was perfection! we were in awe from start to finish, if i'm lucky enough to return for a later anniversary, i wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!!! the resort was very quiet and low-key, which was exactly what we were looking for. we wanted to stay on the motu so we could have the view of the mountain like you see in the brochures and we had it by booking a diamond otw bungalow.

Room Tip: we paid up for the diamond view and it was worth every dime.
