“An Unforgettable Experience at Bora Bora Sofitel”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

My husband and I met by the beach in San Diego and had our wedding on the beach there as well, so it only seemed fitting that we were spend our honeymoon in Bora Bora, known to have some of the beast beaches, and most beautiful clear water in the world. We selected the Sofitel Motu because we had heard great things about it and it didn’t disappoint. One of the most amazing things about going to Bora Bora is the first view of the Island from the plane as you land at the airport which sits on a small private island of its own. As such, the hotel staff pick you up in a boat to take you there. The Sofitel staff greeted us and presented us with sea shell necklaces before boarding the boat. As we made our way to the hotel, we enjoyed the amazing views of Mount Otemanu and who can ignore the amazing water colors. On arrival at the hotel we were warmly greeted by staff who were playing traditional and singing traditional Tahitian music. We were immediately taken to our room where there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us, a sarong for me and a shirt for mu husband. Our overwater bungalow was very spacious and the see-through floor inside is a sight to see. We made our way to our patio and agreed that was really all we needed. We could have camped out on the bungalow patio for the entire week. And we practically did. We enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets from there that no photo could ever capture the beauty, although we tried mercilessly. Both the Motu and the Sofitel main hotel offer buffet style breakfast and dinner which we thoroughly enjoyed. And one afternoon when we went fishing, we brought back our catch, a wahoo, and the chef prepared us a wonderful meal. From the Motu you can enjoy one of the best snorkeling spots on the entire island, which we frequented many times as well as kayaking and swimming in the ocean, who needs a pool with how clear and warm this water is! The staff was always very attentive, our room always clean, and the resort seemed well-maintained. Though we were here 8 days, it seemed to go by so fast. We had the most romantic and unforgettable experience and we can’t wait to get back to Tahiti and her islands.

We had no idea what to expect but after 36 hours of travel we were met with fresh coconut water refreshing towels and breakfast! It was very nice beginning to an amazing stay at the Sofitel! We did take advantage of the romantic dinner was really nice and personal. The full day eco tour was AMAZING!!! The front desk staff was so helpful making plans for tours and th3ey have some great options! The interns Vincent, Benny,& Amending were so helpful and sweet. They made our trip so much fun!! The kayaks and snorkel gear are free and so much for to see the entire island. The snorkeling was amazing! There is a market out of the main hotel to the left the walk is safe and the people are very friendly. Pizza Crepe is also very good and its next to the market.

Room Tip: Email early for a Bungalow near 128 the view is better and more privacy we were in 115 we were surro...

The Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island was the finale of our 12 day celebration in French Polynesia, and it was a finale with flourishes! From the minute we arrived by boat direct from the airport, to the moment we said our good byes my husband and I were treated to 4 plus days of premiere service and attention-The entire complex was a small and naturally beautiful island retreat, with lovely walkways and gardens. We had the sense of being at a small boutique style resort, as there were only 30 bungalows. There were lovely nooks and private corners with comfy seating everywhere and there was a sense that you had the whole island to yourself--lots of privacy! There were two beach areas-perfectly sized, and the water was magnificent. There was snorkeling, kayaking, and even an outrigger for guests to use-The staff was plentiful and attentive but not intrusive. The bungalows themselves were luxurious and had every amenity one needed-including a fridge that was restocked daily with water, juices, soft drinks, and beer at no extra charge! We had an overwater bungalow with fantastic views of the mountain and a window in the floor to see the tropical fish! We felt that we were living a dream come true! The restaurant was lovely, the food delicious, and the soft music perfect for relaxing and living a dream come true. We cannot thank Samantha of Tahiti Travel Planners enough for guiding us in our plans and making all arrangements for our most perfect Anniversary Celebration!

Room Tip: Room 128 has the best view--facing the ocean and the mountain and no obstructions the best sunrises!

On your first arrival at the Sofitel Private Island you are overwhelmed by the beauty of scenery. The Sofitel Private Island has one of the very best spot of Bora Bora with most rooms providing beautiful views.

But there is much more to it that simply the view.

First, it is a small hotel with only 30 rooms so you feel more in a boutique hotel and definitely not in a big complex.

Then, the staff is not only competent but also extremely friendly and caring. It should be noted that most of the staff are polynesians and it is part of the pleasure of having a polynesian experience.

The room are very comfortable : perfectly clean, spacious, great bed, nice amenities.

And there are the little perks, free internet, expresso machine in the room, free minibar refilled daily. You really feel like guest and not just as customer.

I highly recommand the Sofitel Private Island.

Really lovely place with nice touches including free soft drinks stocked daily in your mini bar, great food, pleasant staff, free kayaks, good snorkelling, views etc
The niggles were basically music related... we chose the island because of the peace and quiet. Our villa 102 was right by the bar and reception and we heard music from there the whole time- we had no luck moving as they only offered water bungalows at a 150euro upgrade per night despite lagoon bungalows being available on the Sofitel website to book. The music was too loud anyway and several times there were 2 lots of different music playing at dinner which was annoying. I also didn't like being given the bill whilst I was still eating dessert.
We had the buffet at the sister Sofitel and my husband got food poisoning from there. The staff all knew and although I didn't ask it would have been a nice gesture to remove his buffet charge after he spent 2 days in bed during our honeymoon. Except for these niggles it was a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: Avoid room 102 as it is noisy

This hotel was romantic, luxurious, tranquil, and perfect! I was in love with the private patio over the water with the perfect view of Mount Otemanu. We went snorkeling on the back side of the island and literally saw thousands of colorful fish. The food was good (especially the tuna trio) and so were the drinks! The staff was attentive and helpful.
