One of the world's most beautiful Island, the Tahitian villas overlooking a beautiful blue lagoon in a natural setting. This is a sanctuary for both of us a peaceful tropical escape. We both loved it and didn't want to leave. I'll remember forever.

Dear Michaeljoseph W,

Thank you for your kind words following your recent stay at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa!

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you experienced a taste of paradise in our Resort.

A lot of our Guests agree with you....they do not want to leave and plan, while still here, for their next vacation in Bora Bora. Others will tell you that reality is better than the dream and that they did not believe the pictures before discovering our lagoon!

Again, thank you for your comments. We look forward to your return!

You expect relax, beautiful sea, romantic experience... should go to this hotel!

•Access:
Hilton's boat will take you to the hotel within 15min from Bora bora airport. You can check in in the boat .

•Rooms:
I recommended over water villa. You can swim in the ocean whenever you want; morning, after lunch, sunset...
Beautiful fishes are waiting for you.

I looked around another hotels in bora bora and many corals are under Hiton's villa.

Of course room rate is high.
Don't miss the discount for early booking.

•Restaurant:
Delicious but menu is normal.
If you want to eat local foods, you should go to Vaitape which is town of bora bora.
It takes 10min by Hilton boat.

•Entertainment:
Sea kayaks and other beach goods are available for free.

We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed your stay in our Resort.

Thank you for mentioning the number of corals available to see right under our Villas. They are truly amazing and attract numbers of incredible fishes for our Guests to see. As usual, I recommend future guests not to forget to bring a Gopro camera....

The hotel is gorgeous, along with the beautiful infinity pool. If you're looking into this property, you're likely already aware of the costs. For such a rate, we would have expected better service at check-in, as we waited about 20 minutes for someone to come over to the area where they asked us to wait.
The property is well-kept and the staff is quite friendly.
The food at the restaurants is exceptional, but anticipate dealing with some flying bugs if you eat outside -- this is to be expected, of course.
Having snorkeled around the entire property, we found that some of the overwater rooms had a great deal more coral than others, which poses some challenges if your dream is to jump off your deck into the water. Look before you leap! We were fortunate to have a room with at least 20 feet of water depth right off the deck.
I recommend this property.

Room Tip: Overwater rooms nearest to the main office seem to have more water depth just off their decks.

As a information for our readers it is always a good practise, when going to a tropical country to spray some mosquito repellent on your visible body parts, early in the morning and as soon as the sun goes down. It must be a natural gesture such as to apply sunscreen every two hours during the day!

First, some background. We chose Bora Bora for our honeymoon, and then did a fair amount of research (including other reviews on Tripadvisor) to settle on the Hilton as our choice for 8 nights. We booked about six months out, and were in Bora Bora in the second and third week of March 2014. We stayed in a standard Overwater Bungalow (#121).

Weather: Locals and return visitors told us that March/April are the best times to visit - the warmer wet season comes to an end in Feb/March, and the cooler dry season starts in March/April. So in theory we were due to get warmer but dryer weather (perfect for a beach vacation). This was mainly what we got. Although we had 2-3 days of heavy rain, most of the time the weather was warm but overcast.

Geography: Understanding the geography of Bora Bora is pretty crucial. Bora Bora is in fact a series of islands (motu) arranged in a circle, with rock/coral helping to form a protective ring around the motu. That's what gives Bora Bora its amazing calm blue water. The Hilton Bora Bora Nui is on the western side of Bora Bora, on its own motu. Most of their competitors are on the eastern side of the main island, or on the motu immediately opposite. This is important, because most of the good restaurants are in and around Vaitepe (the main town). The Hilton is a 15 min boat ride to Viatepe, while most of their competitors are further away.

The Hilton: Overall, I would have to agree with previous reviewers - the Hilton Nui should not be considered a 5 star resort by international standards. I've travelled all over the world, and this property is a good 4 star. As we learned while there, the Hilton is the most "traditional Polynesian" of the '5 star' resort options - its architecture, style, service and size all reflect this. The property is older than its competitors, smaller than its competitors, and its service is less responsive (according to other travellers we met).

Some positives and negatives about the Hilton:
- Concierge - great service - never missed a beat, and ensured we made all our bookings and adventure bookings. Always accessible, fluent in many languages. Had great suggestions and made bookings in a flash. Their service was vital to getting the most out of this beautiful island paradise. Hat tip to Valentina who was just a great help.
- Rooms - we stayed in the standard overwater bungalow. The internal fitout is a bit aged (you will see this with the bathroom, in particular), but okay for your needs. There is heaps of space - the bathroom is spacious, as is the living area and bedroom. In fact, its so much space you wont know yourself. The location and set up of the OWB are amazing - you can go for a snorkel from your balcony (and trust me, you will do this every day). The fish you will see off your balcony are massive and varied in colour and type. Feed them some bread and be amazed at the show! In my opinion there is very little benefit to upgrading to a Premium Deluxe bungalow - pay double for some extra space (which you dont need) and slightly better orientation (the premiums mostly face west towards sunset). The most disappointing aspect was the in house movies. Bora Bora is in the tropics. There will be some days which are completely rained out - with torrential rain. Those days you may want to stay in your room and cuddle up and watch a movie. Not at the Hilton. Rooms offer only 10 channels - 9 of which are in French. No on-demand movies. Really bizarre.
- Buffet breakfast - this was the most disappointing aspect of our stay. The breakfast buffet is in the main 'on sand' restaurant beside the pool called Tamure Grill. There seems to be perennial understaffing at this restaurant, so the result is you will wait and wait and wait for your order (if you order from the menu), or even want coffee/juice/water. Make sure you take insect repellant for legs and feet every time you go. The food on offer for the buffet is recycled day to day. We grabbed some yoghurt that expired 2 weeks prior. When we replaced this yoghurt, it took 15 mins to find a spoon to eat it with (again related to understaffing). The staff in the buffet restaurant look stressed, and take it out on you.
- The General Manager - a hat tip to the General Manager of the Hilton Nui, who seems to spend his entire day on the beach, in the bar, at the restaurants or strolling around. The most accessible hotel GM I've ever seen. A lovely gentleman, but the problem is your conversation doesn't get past smalltalk. A suggestion to the GM if you are reading - ask guests if they have any problems, or suggestions. Spend 5 mins sitting with them - you will gain a completely different insight.
- In room wifi - given the remoteness of Bora Bora, the Hilton Nui is surprisingly well designed from a wifi point of view. Free wifi is available in reception and at Tamure Grill restaurant. In room/bungalow wifi is available for a very reasonable price, and has great strength/quality.

Some suggestions to make the most out of your trip:
- Start your stay off with a jetski tour. It takes 2.5 hours, and is the best way to get familiar with Bora Bora. The cost is on the low side of your adventure/outing options. You will have great fun, the guide is funny and knowledgeable (a true local). You will meet other couples, learn how to open a coconut and take some of the most awesome pictures of your entire trip.
- Insect repellant - a must - especially if you stay at Hilton Nui. The breakfast restaurant is on sand, so you will get eaten alive if you have fair skin (as I do).
- Hilton Nui Spa - the Hilton Nui Spa is just fantastic - high up on the hill, with its legendary 'Million Dollar View'. Pamper yourself and your partner, and buy one of their packages. The service and staff was great. We had the Nehe Nehe 4 hour pamper treatment - something we will remember for a long time.
- Adventure outing options - there is a whole heap of adventure outing options - in fact, a whole folders worth. Problem is, no one told us about the 'folder' - we had to find it ourselves. Zero information is available on these options in your room. The folder is located in the main reception. Ask for it on your arrival, spend ten minutes going through every page and picking out what you want to do. Concierge will sort out the rest.
- External Food/dining options - surprisingly, this is in another folder - options like your own private dinner on a private island, or inside your bungalow. It should be located in reception in a separate folder. Again - have a look on your check in.
- Eat out - the internal property dining options at the Hilton Nui are average, at best. Make the most of your location and eat at some of the popular options around Bora Bora. We ate at Mai Kai, La Villa Mahana and Bloody Mary's. You will make your own list through research or asking concierge. Don't be afraid to email Hilton Concierge months before your arrival to make bookings - for some places you will need to book at least 2 months in advance (due to cruise ships coming in). Its a 15 min shuttle to Vaitepe from the Hilton (run by Hilton, at extra cost to you), then every restaurant will organise a taxi pick up (price included in the cost of your meal).
- If you are staying for more than 3-4 days, why not book 2 resorts. You only have access to the beach you are staying at (there is only 1 public beach - which is on the main island). After 3-4 days you will get the entire Hilton Nui experience - and know their beaches inside out. If I had my time again, I would have broken our stay into 2 resorts to change up the scenery, beach, snorkeling and overall experience.
- Alcohol - we were completely scared off by reported alcohol prices on Bora Bora after reading plenty of reviews, so we stocked up on wine in Auckland before arriving. No need. Wine and spirit prices are probably on par with any 5 star hotel/resort around the world - certainly not as excessive as previous reviewers led me to believe. My suggestion - bring a bottle of your favourite basic spirit and a bottle of wine or two to have in your room/bungalow. Hotel and external restaurants wont let you bring your own wine, so its for in-room (or on-beach - ask for a bucket with ice from the bar) consumption only.

Conclusion: The Hilton Bora Bora Nui is a good honeymoon resort option. Its location and beaches is good, service is okay (with positive and negatives). Read up on plenty of reviews, do some prep (e.g. booking restaurants), and think about breaking your time up over 2 resorts. The Hilton is a good, but not great, option. Overall, I probably wont go back, but that's because there are so many '5 star' options on Bora Bora that I'm sure we will find something comparable, if not better.

Room Tip: West facing bungalows are highly desired so you can watch the sunset, but are no more preferable fro...

This is an amazing place - the location is stunning and the sea is warm and full of colourful fish. Staying in a room over the sea was great allowing a swim before breakfast. We had bad weather for 2-3 days (heavy rain and high winds) which restricted our activities to swimming, and meant we only had time for a couple of activities. We did a snorkelling trip swimming with (safe) sharks and rays and which we really enjoyed. We would have liked to have done the ATV (four wheel bike) tour of the main island with a jet ski 'taxi' ride there and back, but it was fully booked, so if you are interested in things like probably best to book early.

The food was really good - there are 3 restaurants catering for different styles. The one we liked best was the french restaurant which produced amazing food. There is also a Polynesian restaurant and what might be termed an American restaurant serving simpler food in larger quantities. I would definitely recommend people pre-paying for meals (we paid for half board) - it is very expensive and each course is about $30-40. Wine cost about $60 although the local beer was only $6 a bottle and very good.

The place is just divine .... all is there, the nature the beauty ... could not be better in a way. Bora Bora in itself is soothing. I wish they did care a little more about preservation. Especially the large chains should also have a responsibility to further this as it is in their long term interest. Otherwise, just the place to enjoy ...

Thank you very much for your kind review following your recent stay at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa!

We are very pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay in our Hotel!

Please be assured that our resort does everything we can to preserve our beautiful environment!
For exemple, we have solar pannels on our villas to heat our water, we receive the water from the main island, use it, send it back to be treated and they send it back to us a second time to water our gardens! We reinstate corrals in our lagoon and sort our trash to ensure recycling....

There is always more to do but I wish all island around the world would do as much as Bora Bora does!

My husband and I stayed here for 12 nights in March. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had landed in paradise.
The sun was shining and we were greeted by beautiful Valentina from guest relations who gave us our leis and set us on the boat. We took the Hilton transfer to the hotel which was easy and took about 20 mins just what we needed after 30 hours of traveling!
We were placed in over water bungalows 318 which has fantastic snorkeling and great views of the lagoon. It is a great room and the bathroom is enormous! The bed is really comfortable and I had no problem sleeping as soon as my head hit the pillow!!
We enjoyed swimming with the fantastic array of brightly coloured fish just of of our deck and bought fish food from Olivier at the towel hut for an amazing feeding frenzy of
Marine life.

We ate most of our meals at the hotel apart from dinner at Bloody Marys, I recommend a visit as the seafood is great. We also had dinner at La Villa Mahana which was a pleasant evening with the best mahi mahi I have ever eaten.

I really do not know how people can complain about the quality of the food at this resort, I consider myself a fussy eater with high standards and I did not have a single complaint about any of the food we ate. The breakfast buffet was great with a selection of pastries, fruit, yoghurt, French bread, cheese, fish, eggs, bacon. I'm sure I gained a few pounds during my stay!!
We ate most of our meals at Tamure grill where there was a large menu and we really enjoyed the steak, fish of the day and also the burgers were very good!
We enjoyed the best buffet I have ever seen on Mediterranean night and the polynesian night. There was whole tuna sliced to tartare which we loved and tasty poisson cru. Try it!
The Polynesian night was great and the entertainers put on an energetic dance show. They're an asset to the hotel.
We spent many an afternoon at happy hour with Heremoana the barman enjoying a Hinano or two :-)

We hired bikes from the concierge and cycled around the island, which I think is about 18 miles, we chose to do this on a hot day (not wise) and this is not for the faint hearted. We cycled past the other resorts and we're so pleased the we had chosen to stay at The Hilton on it's very own private island.

Jean the hotel manager was genuinely interested in what we thought of the resort and would do everything he could to improve our stay. Thank you for making our stay so memorable. We often saw him driving people around on the golf buggies and even giving out the beach towels.

Tini the guy working at the towel hut would often hand out the most amazing macaroons, cookies and fruit. He even went as far as giving my husband a short demonstration on how to remain standing on the paddle boards!

The staff are genuinely pleased to help you with anything they can an I'm sure I'll remember the warm greeting of 'laorana' for many years to come.

We met some great people at the resort who were mostly couples but there were families with small children. I personally think that it's a little quiet for children, but that's because I'd like to keep it all to myself, and child free ;-)

On to the weather...it was mixed with horrendous storms on two occasions. I kept thinking that the sun would come out but the rain and wind kept coming for two days. Luckily we had 12 days so could afford a few wet days. We spent these reading or just relaxing in the beautiful room. Despite the intermittent sunshine we still got a great suntan!

We had a great massage at the million dollar view! I recommend this to anyone after a long journey to Bora Bora.

All in all I would come back here in a heartbeat and definitely recommend this resort to friends and family. What are you waiting for? Just book it!
