“Wonderful location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

Review is from our trip in 2011. We booked a package through a travel agency and once confirmed contacted the hotel directly since we are SPG platinum members to see about specific location of room. Upon check-in we were more than pleased we were put in a bungalow almost at the end of the row of rooms - wonderful location if you can get it! Only complaint is that it is a hike to get to the restaurant or dock, but well worth it for the privacy and location! Our only complaint was that the breakfast buffet was overpriced especially considering I typically only have coffee and a light snack. After a few days we found a way around this though where my husband would go to the buffet alone in the morning before he would go diving and bring me back a carafe of coffee and a few chocolate croissants that I would enjoy on our patio...pure bliss!!! Beyond this beautiful property we would also recommend La Bounty restaurant on the mainland. Casual atmosphere and great food.

We stayed at Le Meridien Bora Bora August 24 - September 3, 2013 and had a five star experience on every level. From our bungalow to the beach to the activities...everything was top shelf especially the staff. Cecile and her team sincerely and consistently went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying our stay. We liked this resort because of it's location (minimal bugs, wind and a perfect view of Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu. We also selected this resort because it only has a handful of bungalows so the beach, restaurants, fitness center, spa, etc...were not crowded. We never had to wait in a line or jockey for lounge chairs at the beach or around the pools. It was quiet and peaceful. The turtle sanctuary with Julie, the main marine biologist, and her team are very impressive. We found ourselves going every morning after breakfast. It has an inland lagoon that gave us several different places to enjoy the sun. We enjoyed the view of One day we grabbed lounge chairs on the inland lagoonAlso, we shopped for pearls and found the jeweler at this resort, The Pearl Market, had the best quality pearls for the best price-they also have a store in Vaitape. We looked at several resorts at Bora Bora and are very happy we stayed at Le Meridien which delivered beyond our expectations and made our stay the best of the best. Thank you Cecile and team!

Room Tip: We stayed in a premium bungalow (#334) and had one of two best views. The window over the bed faces...

My lovely wife & I had always wanted to go to Bore Bora. We had read many times how beautiful it was there but, it always seemed beyond our budget, given the poor value of the NZ dollar and the wages of the average Kiwi. However, after the untimely death of a close friend, it made us reassess our priorities in life, we decided to Just do it.

We Booked 6 nights at the Le Meridien Bora Bora (13/7/13 to 18/7/13) & 4 nights at The Hilton in Moorea (another review) as we thought that it would be great to see more of Tahiti. We wished that we had booked the whole 10 nights at the Le Meridien.

The Arrival:
The arrival at the small airport seems a bit chaotic at first, there were people everywhere, all going to different resorts. But, it was actually pretty well organised with each resort having their own counter which were all sign posted well. Once they got your bags organised & they then loaded them onto the appropriate motor launch. We were then boarded onto the correct launch and given a cool bottle of water, then taken on the twenty minute journey to the resort. It was a fantastic first experience as it gave you wonderful views of beauty of Bora Bora.
Once we arrived at the resort, we were greeted young man, Diageo, and taken to the reception area where we were given a cool fruit cocktail. We were seated outside bar area which had a magnificent view of the resort and across to the island of Bora Bora. Mt Otemanu looked beautiful in the early afternoon sun. Once we had completed our documentation, we were then taken on a tour of the resort's main facilities and given information on the hours of operation of each facility. Overall, we thought that the arrival and check-in process was excellent thanks to Diageo who took good care of us, he continually displayed a very friendly but courteous & professional manner.

The Accommodation:
We did not stay in an overwater bungalow, like most people have in these reviews.
We elected to stay in a beach bungalow as we are big time beach people. I'm not knocking the OWB's, they have got the largest glass floors that I have ever seen anywhere & it would be a nice novelty to stay in one & for most folks they would be great. It's just that we would get a bit board and just head to the beach anyway.

Exterior:
These bungalows have their own deck and chairs & a small private beach complete with sun loungers and a hammock.
The view from these is OMG so wonderful, with the beautiful turquoise water of the inner lagoon directly in front of you stretching across to the main beach of the resort and then over the main lagoon to Bora Bora with Mt Otemanu right there in front of you, it's so magnificent, you don't want to close your eyes to blink.

Interior:
The interiors are the same or very similar layout to the OWB's. There is a large & very comfortable bed with good quality linen (may have been two joined together but we did not notice) which gave us both great sleep quality. There is a large separate area for the storage of all your suitcases and clothing. There is also a small fridge and tea & coffee making facilities, a good size tv (only 1 English speaking channel, we took our 17.3'' laptop and watched movies at night) & alarm clock radio. The bathroom has twin basins, a separate walk-in shower, a large bath & separate toilet. Theses bathrooms are quite dark, but it was totally adequate for us. Although there is a large window overlooking the views mentioned above, the rooms themselves are also a little on the dark side which suited us, we thought it actually added to the romance of the room.
The rooms were refurbished 2-3 years ago. However, they are just starting to show a some small signs of wear. Nothing critical mind you, just little things like the lock on our balcony doors failing and then the front door in our second bungalow (we stayed in two, read my room tips).
I must say that these minor faults were taken seriously by the staff at reception and they had them fixed very quickly.
There were sufficient power outlets but, I advise that you bring a converter plug and a multi plug board.

The food experience:
I had read mixed reviews on the food and service at this resort, so we did not have high expectations. Although we only ate breakfast there as, it was included with our stay, we found that this was definitely NOT the case. The food at breakfast was not only wonderfully delicious but, also plentiful with an enormous variety. The staff were both helpful and friendly as well.
Price of food is expensive, however, we have found that to be the case wherever we have been in French Polynesia. We are not great foodies so, that never is a deal-breaker for us.

Activities:
There are free activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, volleyball & a free sail for 20-30 mins.
The rest of the activities are paid ones. The shark & ray feeding is highly recommended, great guys & lots of laughs.
The two swimming pools were quite chilly and while I really tried to stay in one, it was a bit too chilly for me. We did most of our swimming in the awesome inner lagoon as it was warmer and had some interesting fish in there.
The turtle sanctuary was worth the visit & its free. Just get there on time and you see them being feed and learn a lot about them as well. You can sometimes book to swim with them too although we never saw anybody doing while we were there. You asked to donate a small amount to the sanctuary. This is placed on your bill however, you can have it taken off if you want, no worries. They do a wonderful job, so we did not mind donating at all.

The Staff:
We found the staff very friendly, cheerful & efficient. There were two "stand out" Staff members though. First was young Diageo he was around a lot and was always very happy to do anything that he could to make your stay better. Secondly, there was Audrey, She was absolutely wonderful when we had a problem with our first bungalow number 4 (not enough sun hitting our private beach due to trees etc). Initially, we were told by another staff member that we could not be moved due to prior bookings etc. However, Audrey went the extra mile and did a bit of shuffling, had us moved to Number 2 by the next day.

Departure:
Everything went very smooth, I went to pay the bill the night prior to checkout and it was perfect, with no extra or unexpected charges.

Overall Impression:
The only thing that we didn't like was that we had to leave. This is the most beautiful Island paradise that we have ever seen, thus far (Aitutaki in the Cook Island is a close second).

Yes it's expensive, but it's totally worth it. (it's experiences like this that actually make us feel richer)

That you to all the staff of the resort, we hope to get back there one day.

Room Tip: If you want a beach bungalow, request number 3,6 or 2 (in that order) these rooms have the sunniest...

The overwater bungalow was fantastic. Glass floor revealed numerous species of fish. We enjoyed jumping off the deck into the water and swimming under our bungalow. Excellent service from the moment we arrived. All staff were very helpful. All were ken to help us organise activities from swimming with sharks and stingrays to enjoying a tropical lunch on a deserted island beach. Don't forget to buy your black pearl.

King size beds are actually two twins pushed together. OWB are in deep water, and it was very windy with strong currents in July, so unfortunately we were unable to swim from our balcony. Still amazingly beautiful! We did see some sting rays and some large fish from our "window" in the floor.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for reviewing our resort following your stay in latest July.
June to August are indeed winter and windy months here. Some days, current may be stronger in the lagoon and when it occurs, it is indeed hard and can be unsecure to swim under our overwater bungalows as current will drift you swiftly. On those days we recommend our guests to swim in our protected inner lagoon which remains calm and safe.
Hopefully, those days occur quite rarely, and most of the time water in Bora Bora is calm, limpid and warm.
We are pleased to read that overall you had a pleasant stay and we hope we will have the occasion to welcome you again with a nicer weather.

Sunny regards,

Cécile

The views surrounding this hotel are breathtaking. We stayed in a premium overwater bungalow, but we didn’t see much through the glass floor other than a pufferfish during our 5-night stay. The room was still nice, and we loved jumping into the lagoon from our bungalow. We also had an extended terrace with folding chairs to layout, some overwater bungalows only have lounge chairs. The room was cleaned daily. We had great drinks at the Miki Miki bar, but after five days the food got old. They have breakfast and dinner buffets with different daily themes. It was fine, but if you’re a foodie manage your expectations for the amount of money you will spend. The hotel offers different areas to go swimming/snorkeling which we really enjoyed. If you want to swim with the turtles at the sanctuary make a reservation early!

I’m glad I brought: light sweater (August is wintertime), goggles, superlight long sleeve shirt, sunscreen (of course)
Wish I packed: Ibuprofen/pain-reliever (you won’t find it at the gift shop)
Recommended activities*: Guided jet ski tour of the island, diving, safari tour (if you want to see the island)
*We enjoyed the ray/shark feeding at Moorea, but I definitely recommend the experience.

Ia Orana!!

Spent 7 wonderful nights here. Staff are amazingly friendly. Water clarity is amazing and you can see 4-5 metres deep to the sand and reef below. Plenty of free water activities to use - SUP, Kayaks, Wind Surfers, Snorkel Gear. Even have a couple of Jet ski's. Décor in the OWB is fantastic. Loved diving from our deck straight into the lagoon and swimming with the fish. Heaps of tropical fish and spotted sting rays swimming around. Loved snorkelling around the inner lagoon which the Buffet Dining area overlooks and around the wedding chapel. You can walk around to the back of the resort and if you have reef shoes, the ocean is accessible and makes for a wonderful walk to the other islands owned by this resort.

Best eating was the Buffet with a different theme for dinner each night. Pool bar and Miki Miki Bar staff were all amazingly friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Belinda at the Pool Bar - so very friendly and remembered our standard order. The Head Chef even takes time to speak to guests and we had a few chats to him. Also special thank you to Gaele in the Buffet Dining area, such a wonderful lady that clearly loves her job.

Stunning Polynesian dancing twice a week and definitely not to be missed as there is more than one dance troop. Met some wonderful couples from New York, Canada, Texas and Chicago. The staff keep the beaches all lovely and clean, even rake the beach every morning. Activities staff and so helpful and make booking the taxi boat and dinner on the main island a dream. Bloody Mary's on the main island is a must to eat at. The décor is fantastic and the concept is one of a kind. When you go there, a trip to the restrooms is a MUST. If you wish to have a long dinner on the main island I would suggest getting the earlier taxi boat and looking at the many wonderful shops and markets before getting picked up for dinner.

Whether you want to do and see heaps or just laze by the pool or on the beach, you are sure to have the most amazing experience at this wonderful resort.

Definitely one of the most amazing holidays of my life that I will always cherish.
