I have mixed feelings about this resort. First of all let me say...bora bora...WOW! Heaven on earth.. the best welcome ever experienced by the hotel staff..Ani in particular.... the beach boys working at the beach equipment hut were adorable n very warm...as was the chief bartender lady upstairs who was an absolute sweetheart .the staff at the restaurant wete kinda cold n kinda didnt care about their customers...give a damn attitude... and the food was boring, very limited variety and not 5 star quality, however still fresh n edible... the turtle centre made a difference....really enjoyefdthat as well as the lagoon n the snorkelling....also enjoyed the cultural event.
If tge food improves n some of the staff improve tgeir attitude, would definitely be the best....

We recently returned from Bora Bora - 1-7 April 2013 and stayed at Le Meridian Resort. The staff was excellent throughout our stay. We were greeted at the airport with Lei's and at the resort with refreshing drinks as we completed the registration process. We were allowed to check in early, our overwater bungalow (227) was heavenly!. The water at this bungalow is well over 10 feet (I enjoyed diving in every morning but my lady is not a swimmer so shallower water might have been better), two bungalows over the water was knee level. We have no complaints about our accommodations however we did overhear another couple complain of problems with their air condition. After reading several reviews regarding the food we were a little apprehensive to eat at the hotel. However, during our stay the food was excellent at all three restaurants. We especially liked the (a la cart) and the steak sandwich at the Miki Miki Bar. We did not try room service and only ate the buffet on Polynesian night and found it to be pretty good. It is not worth the time or expensive to leave the resort nightly for dinner and we really can't understand why you would want to, the property is breath taking from the morning sunrise to the evening sunset. We did leave one night to eat at Bloody Mary's which is definitely a must do! The menu does become a little familiar after 5 days. The internet was free and the boat trip round trip to Vaitape was $25.00. I have one complaint. Only one television station in English (the hotel info station). Take advantage of the free water sports activities i.e. canoeing, snorkeling. We enjoyed the Polynesian Dance Show both nights. Don't forget to buy some tropical punch from the gift shop, mixes well with Vodka!.

We will recommend this property to our friends and family. Don't hesitate to email if you have any additional questions.

Mauru’uru for the gracious review.

Our staff truly takes pride in providing service that is beyond expectation, and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Le Méridien Bora Bora. We strive to provide unparalleled services and memorable experiences to all our guests, especially when it comes to our Food & Beverage outlets, and we are pleased to read that you appreciated the food offered. But yes, Bloody Mary’s is always well worth a visit!

Regarding the television, we normally have several English channels; however, we experienced a small inconvenience with the broadcasting during the time of your stay and unfortunately none of these channels were available. I assure you that it is nothing that is constant, and the problem was taken care of.

We look forward to welcoming you back for your next Polynesian vacation!

If we hadn't been to the St. Regis, we would have had nothing other than paradise to compare this to. The weather wasnt that great this time so it was easy to find fault with the overwater bungalow. Basically the only tv channels in English were ESPN and CNN and no dvd player :( The food was good and the service was very couteous. The views from the property are on par with the St Regis but the bungalows are lacking in privacy and outdoor deck space. Other complaints would include the charges to take the ferry to the main island and half of the property was under construction/renovation. Overall it is a great place to experience Bora-Bora and save some cash knowing that it is not a 5-star property.

The hotel was nice and the staff helpful. We were there for 7 nights which in hindsight was too long. It was relaxing but we should done another island. We had just come from Queenstown, NZ where we were for 7 nights.

Coming from a cooler climate of NZ to Bora Bora it took a couple of days to acclimate to the humidity and heat.

Room Tip: Do the Ray and Shark snorkel along with the 4x4 tour of the island. Well worth it.

We spent a few days on Moorea (a different review) before coming to Bora Bora. It was our 25th anniversary and I wanted to spend it here. We booked our package with Pacific for Less, Jennifer and Mia being our agents. I'd say booking a package made for a better value as we had some add ons and the Breakfast buffet. We had OWB 225 and it was very nice! Well appointed, clean and cared for. Our balcony faced the east so we had beautiful sun rises and the full moon rising as well. Very romantic. Very relaxing, just what I wanted. We were greeted at the dock upon arrival and escorted to Reception where we were quickly checked in. They were effiecient and friendly. They drove us to our bungalow where our bags awaited. We were able to settle in and enjoy the view. Our bungalow was a long walk out and I had hoped for more shallow water. The water could be a bit silty at times so not as clear as other spots might be. But it was all so gorgeous. The room was a compact layout..they show floor plans on the resort web site. The 'modern' bathroom furnishings were shallow and narrow sinks in a long vanity that made it so you had to carefully turn on your water. (but we had plenty of hot water, unlike our previous location on Moorea.) By day you had lots of light from the sun but by night, the lighting was pretty low. The bed and bedding was very comfy. Loved the glass panels in the floor! We did not have a constant show of sealife, however but over time saw a number of things, various fish, a young ray, urchins. There was a light to shine on the water at night, which was neat. Someone else mentioned the access ladders being slick and I would have to agree.

For the dining experience, we could not bring ourselves to pay $110 for dinner buffet. We don't eat that much! That is like a week's worth of groceries at home. We did, on our first night go to dinner at their a la carte restaraunt. It was overpriced as well, very small portions and mostly inedible to us. We like simple food, not so called undiscernable gourmet. I tried to pick something we might recognize, so went for the mahi dinner. While the small portion of fish was indeed good, the rest of it really was not at all. I would not want to hurt the Chef's feelings, but in reality it was pretty bad to us. The other guests we talked to there also did not like the dinners. The breakfast buffet was great, though and is what saved us. Dining options were limited at dinner. The fact that you had lagoon side dining was neat though, since you could be entertained by the fish. The other place, the Ava beachside, was not open for dinners as it was supposed to be. Perhaps because this was low season. As we went on excursions, by the time we got back on site, we missed the lunch hours of the Ava. We were blessed to be able to visit a market on the main island after one of our excursions and bring back sandwich items to prepare in our place. We did have a Romantic Dinner for Two I scheduled for our anniversary dinner and it WAS good and lovely. On the beach! Very special.

We had read complaints about mosquitos but we had no trouble at all with them. Maybe it was the time of year we visited. We were prepared with repellant and I suggest anyone else be as well. We had no other pests to contend with either.

We also enjoyed the shows.

Be prepared as well to buy bottles of water. While at home in the states we can get glasses of ice water at a restaraunt, on the islands you have to buy bottles of water. We frequently got ice from the machine and let it melt in our room.

Our excursions were booked in advance through our travel agent and they chose some great folks for us. Through Matira Jet Tours we did a combo jet ski and ATV tour. Those people were absolutely wonderful!! The jet ski trip left us awestruck with the great beauty of the island, unbelieveable water colors, gorgeous landscape. We had a great shark and ray feeding tour as well. These are family businesses and they appreciate your patronage. They seem to genuinely love what they do which makes them a joy to work with. We also had a chance to eat at Snack Matira and it was so good! We had mahi mahi burgers and it was the best thing on our trip!!!

Getting to the main island was easy if your schedule worked with the 3 free shuttles over and back. Otherwise you had to book a water taxi for hire, like if you wanted to have dinner on the main island because the last free shuttle back was too early. Also, you needed to have someone, like your excursion host, to meet you at the Anau base because there really was nothing there but security. It is a long walk to anything else.

We visited the turtle center on site and were on hand when a turtle was released, which was pretty neat. We snorkled near that area too and it was pleasant easy snorkling.

There is a computer room with 2 computers, one is French though! the other English. We used this to check in with Airtran for our domestic flights home. The printer did not work in there, though, so check in with reception first when you need to print boarding passes or the like. Pierre at the desk was helpful.

The staff here overall was helpful, sweet, friendly and I can't say enough good about them. We enjoyed our interaction with some of them very much.

If you want to get into the thick of the real island life, you may prefer to book a place on the main island. Your options are many then, for things to do, see and eat.I think if we ever went back, we would try that next time. But if you want the resort life, which can be kind of isolated, Le Meridien was pretty nice, especially if you have a package that includes some things. It is very beautiful there. The area is just stunning! The people were nice, the OWB was wonderful, the location is gorgeous. No photos or descriptions can do the place justice! It was a very memorable experience!

Thank you for your candid feedback and observations. It's great to hear how much you liked our Bungalows and the service offered within and outside of the hotel, but we are disappointed to learn about the experience in our restaurant areas. We are always looking to improve and truly value your comments and observations that we will share with our Chef and Management team, in order to make the necessary corrections. We certainly hope to see you again on a return visit.

We spent a week at the Le Meridien in an overwater bungalow in December 2012. The overwater bungalow exceeded our expectations. Our bungalow was situated with an amazing view of Mt Otemau and was located towards the end of the boardwalk. The water this far out is quite deep and a little scary when so clearly full of ocean life but still very enjoyable for swimming in. The beds are amazingly comfortable and large with a beautiful net that wraps around the whole bed. Overall, the room was well equipped, modern and I could not fault it.

The lagoon is the most amazing place to swim! Never in my life have I seen such beautiful coloured coral, anemones and such a diverse amount of fish (small and large). The best snorkel spot in the lagoon is on the far side in front of the chapel (it's a must to check out!). Also, you can borrow snorkelling gear, towels and inflateable lounges from the beach hut, so no need to bring anything except your sunscreen and swimmers.

The staff here are truly beautiful!! We found them to be very helpful and friendly with most of them speaking English. Room service was great, the delivery was prompt, the food hot and served with a smile. Which brings me to the only negative of our trip....the food at the restaurants. Our package included meals and hence we ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner most days. Each meal was quite disappointing and I am truly not a very fussy eater. I found that the food was often cold and poorly made except for the delicious deserts. Omg, the banana pie was delicious!

Overall, I would return here for a holiday in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Room 237 is perfect and used in most of their advertisements because of the view from this room.

We stayed at Le Meredien last week of March 2013. This hotel just across the Mt. Otemanu. I say "the only hotel" with direct view on the mountain. However, you won't see sunsets from the hotel. But sunrise is gorgeous and directly into your window.
Vaitape is the capital of Bora Bora- small village with couple stores, nothing more. In addition, you need to pay for transfer 2500 cpf per person. It worth to take once to have dinner at Blody Marries.
Better to book activities directly with providers, not through Activity Center. Also, when you book ask them to pick you up from Anau ( it is another small town on Bora Bora, but shuttle boats are free!!!)
Internet room is available with 2 computers, but very slow and always crowded.
Food choise is very limited. Dinner buffets are expensive 9000 cpf per person. Al la carte menu is the same, but chipper. Scallops are not very good, but mahi-mahi is awesom. Check out lunch restaurant - varaity is definitely better then dinner.
Polynesian show was so-so, we liked on Tahiti more.
Overall, great time!

Ia Orana!

Thank you for your comment and for choosing Le Méridien Bora Bora for your recent vacation.

We are glad you were able to enjoy so many areas of the resort and soak in the beautiful scenery. Indeed you cannot see the sun setting over the sea, but the sunset behind Mount Otemanu is magical!

Whatever may be the reason for you to say not to book activities through us, we are sorry to have missed your expectations here. Our Activities Desk work diligently to facilitate bookings and reservations and make sure each guest has an exceptional stay with us.

Mauru’uru once again you for staying with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.
