Eating here is like going back in time to a real roadhouse -- you grab a spot at a table where you can find a space, often sharing with other travelers, and there are bunks for rent and common showers in the back. Hearty fare, friendly and efficient staff, cool stuff to look at on the walls, and a guy playing a guitar by the fireplace on a Sunday afternoon. My friend really enjoyed her pasty lunch, and my reindeer chili was good, albeit a bit sweet for my Texan palate.

One of the best breakfast we have had in Alaska. Great service. Great food. Good company. Go in sit down anywhere you find a seat and enjoy your neighbors company. Remember a stranger is a friend you have not met. Enjoy

The Roadhouse is in an historic log building with a sweet dining room of shared tables, fireplace and piano. There are rooms to rent, including one bunk room, a common room with a long table for games, laptops, conversations, comfy lounge seating, mags and books. In the summer you can overhear climbers and their guides talking about their climb (Denali the highest mountain in North America) Overall a traditional Talkeetna experience.

A cornish pasty in Alaska? Yes! The roadhouse serves a varied menu of foods for visitors. It's a very informal restaurant and also has lodging accommodations. It's not unusual to share tables with other visitors and the food is really great! I had the pasty with salad and it was amazing. Also, I was travelling with somebody with strict food allergies (no gluten and no milk) and they were very gracious about accommodating our requests.
