The Roadhouse is one of those places that believes in filling up it's customers. The pancakes are delicious, the eggs are done just right and the reindeer sausage is very good.

Warning - this is a very popular, family-style place...so if you are looking for a quiet eatery with lots of privacy, don't go here (especially when the train is in town). But if you're looking for some of the best food, especially baked goods and breakfasts, in Talkeetna, then DO go here. Delicious!

During a recent stay with a friend in Anchorage, we headed north to catch a glimpse of Denali/Mt. McKinley. It was a perfect day for the drive, with lots of simply awesome (in the true meaning of the word) scenery to enjoy along the way. According to my friend, The Talkeetna Roadhouse has the world's best breakfast - and it is served throughout the day. The Inn still accommodates travellers in a cosy (read shared bathroom/shower) setting, and prices are reasonable. But, back to the restaurant: my friend had the breakfast (half portion, even so, it lapped over the edge of the plate) but I could not pass up the Reindeer/Caribou and Black Bean Chili. The meat was plentiful - lean, not gamey, and tender, and the spiciness was excellent - had a kick! Afterwards we walked down the snow-covered road to the river, which had lots of ice floes already, and were delighted to see an unobstructed view of the mountain. Talkeetna is a great place to visit, and the Roadhouse will provide you with a tasty, inexpensive fuel to take in all the sights - and sustain you while you shop!

We stopped in there, split a cinnamon roll and we both had hot chocolate. The cinnamon roll was yummy and the hot chocolates were good. The menu looked tasty and their bakery case was full of goodies. It was a fun little stop. Glad we went in.
