“lovely location, charming accommodations”
Reviewed June 9, 2009

Located within walking distance of the heart of the little town of Talkeetna, this B&B offers lovely spacious accommodations in a wooded site. The breakfast is only a continental one - juice, coffee/tea/etc. and muffins, but each unit contains a modern, well-equipped kitchenette. The kitchenette is typical of the rest of the furnishings of the unit - nicely equipped and pleasantly designed.

I stayed here as part of a tour group, and we filled the place. Our hosts Darlene and Howard were excellnt, made us very welcome. The place is immaculate in every way. I had a queen bed and there were beds in the upstairs of the room. There is a kitchen with quality amenities. It is next to the river which was frozen and Howard made a bonfire there in the evenings with marshmallows and smores. Highly recommend this place.

My husband and I stayed at Susitna River Lodging on August 31st for one night. We decided to stay in the main lodge. Our room was very large; queen bed, large sitting area with windows overlooking the river bed, kitchenette, and a loft with 2 twin beds. We loved the ambience of the lodge, and wished that we could stay longer than just one night. The owners are lovely hosts, and their dog, Tiger, is the best stone catcher! We highly recommend this location to anyone visiting Talkeetna.

We stayed in the A Frame cabin nearest to the main building along the water but unfortunately there wasn't much water, just a lot of mud. Oh well. The place was new, clean and plenty of room for my wife and I. We parked right next to the A-Frame.

There were three beds and a sofa bed that opened up. No TV or DVD but there is one in the main lobby. Full kitchen and everything worked well.

It was a quiet stay and in the distance we saw Denali. One afternoon we sat outside and read our books to that very inspiring view. In the spring and summer it gets dark late at night so there's plenty of time to sight see.

Talkeetna is a nice little town, good for a day or two. It was a five minute walk from the cabin. We went to the historical museum which had lots of stuff to see, particularly about mountain climbing. We ate one night at Michelle's which was near the cabin and it was kind of a ripoff. Small portions and overpriced. I guess many places are like this in Alaska because they are 20 week businesses and they have to make a year's salary in that time.

We used the TourSaver coupon (which saved us $250) and took the 2 hour Grand Denali Tour from Talkeetna Air Taxi which included the glacier landing. It was a smooth ride from start to finish, leaving at 5:30PM. This was one of the highlights of our two week trip. If you take the plane ride, you must land on the glacier. I've never breathed air as clean as on the glacier and the snow was the whitest I have ever seen snow. The sky was the bluest too. Too bad we were only on it for about 20 minutes. I would have paid more to stay longer.

I heard that Mahay's Riverboat ride was fun but I did not go on it myself.

No animals were seen in this part of Alaska. We saw a bear
and lots of Moose in Homer.

Have fun. No crowds from May 17-May 30.

This place appears to be quite new and is so cute! Susitna River Lodging is a wood lodge inside and out, and exactly what I was hoping for during my first Alaska experience. The place was immaculately clean (even the microwave), staff was super friendly and my family and I just loved our stay. True the "river" is more of a mud flat, but if you go to the bank, you can scope it out for wildlife tracks. While looking for wildlife tracks, besure to look up and the view of Mt. McKinley will take your breath way. The mountain view outside of this lodge is better than what we saw from Denali Park. The lodge and cabins are tucked away in the woods with free internet service. What more could you want!?! LOVED IT! Oh, and the cost was more than reasonable compared to other places around Alaska!

A lovely place, very clean and well-maintained, with a super-friendly staff and beautiful views from every window! Far enough away from town to provide a quiet night's sleep, but still an easy and enjoyable walk to downtown Talkeetna. Always our first choice whether we're travelling to Talkeetna or recommending a place for friends to stay.

We just took out-of-state visiting relatives for a stay in Talkeetna. The cabin we stayed in at Susitna River Lodge could not have been better. We did a lot of research prior to our visit and were not disappointed in any way despite the economical cost of staying there. We were warned ahead of time that the main channel of the river had moved, but what we saw out the window was a perfect example of a braided river--a unique sight for those unfamiliar with glacial rivers. A lovely, meandering smaller channel reflected silvery in the October light. From the loft window, northern lights shown at night. The trees, mostly bare of leaves, were silhouetted against the sky and mountains.
The cabin was extremely clean; we thought it couldn't have been more than a year or two old, but we were wrong. Although the kitchen was only a "mini-kitchen," it had everything we needed to make out stay pleasant. Towel quantities and bathroom supplies were ample, coffee was provided, and beds and chairs were comfortable. The walls did not have a lot of "kitschy" Alaskan artwork, which made the place seem even larger. There were large windows on all sides of the cabin, contributing to the feeling of being connected with the outdoors.
Staff were very helpful with recommendations for activities in Talkeetna, and they were generous in allowing us a late checkout (which might not be possible during the summer tourist season).
The place is just a short, walkable distance from "downtown Talkeetna."
I would definitely stay there again and will recommend it to others.
